Toro mower is shooting oil into air cleaner
Comments (5)It sounds like this is a new problem? Is the oil level overfull or has the mower been tipped? Sometimes these breathers - especially if it is a Tecumseh engine, act like little oil pumps after being tipped or substantially overfilled. Once the oil level is proper and the fuel is fresh, try running with the filter off in a clean environment and see if it corrects itself. If not, you may need to flush through the hose to get the siphon to stop....See MoreLow air flow on both my heat pumps
Comments (15)Update: The repair guy just left and here is what he found. The upstairs unit's air flow was low and he fixed that by chaning the 12 inch line with a 16 inch line. Still not sure if that was better choice than putting another air return, but he says it has about 800 cfms now which is suitable for a 2 ton unit. It turns out that my downstairs unitl had too high of an air flow with about 1500 cfms for a 2.5 ton system. He "repaired" that by putting a piece of sheet metal in the basement return to reduce it's air intake. The heat seems to be hotter coming out of the vents now, but some of the vents have very low air flow. Damned if I do, damned if I don't situation. After he got the air flow "corrected" he finished checking the system and found that both heat pumps are still freezing up at the compressors and they are building up way too much pressure. He thinks that both of the coolant lines have blockages or are restricted. If these blockages are not fixed he says the cooling/heating compacity of both systems will remain greatly diminished and that the one compressor will probably fail within a year due to the constant overpressure. Anyone else have any experiance with this? How about home warrenties, do they typically cover situations like this? Thanks...See MoreFan On Top Of Outdoor Central Air Unit Sometimes Stops Working
Comments (15)With thermostat technology available now it is very easy to have full control of what type of heat you are using and when. The stats use an outdoor temp sensor and can be set to run the heat pump in one set of temperatures and the alternate source at other temps and also run one or the other or both depending on the temperature so you can get the best bang for your heating buck. If its above 35 degrees my heat strips are totally locked out unless there is an unlikely defrost needed. If it is below 35 the stat will run the heat pump and stage in strips as needed down to I believe 10 degrees the heat pump is deactivated and it only operates on the heat strips until the temperature comes back up outside. This allows seamless control with no need to get up and make any adjustments other than picking the temperature you want inside the home. The stat can still be manually set to emergency heat or auto mode just like the old systems. If gas prices shoot up you can set the pump to run on down to whatever temp you want say 10 degrees or not even shut off at all. If gas prices drop you can have the heat pump locked out totally or at say 40 degrees. It sounds like it might be worthwhile to check into or start considering upgrading the whole system but until then a fan motor and or capacitor isn't a massive undertaking or expense. BTW at temps above 30 degrees a heat pumps efficiency really ramps up....See MoreDE is flowing out of my skimmer after the pump shuts down
Comments (11)poolgenius, What are you talking about 2" suction line being undersized on a 2hp pump. I think you need to go back and learn hydraulics again. 1hp. You need to rethink this as well. What size filter does he have first off. What size is the pool? How far is the run from your equipment to your pool. These things all contribute to the size of filter and pump that you use. Please before you go and change all your equipment as suggested lets find out what the problem is. I am sure all equipment worked fine before they were moved. As far as the stand pipe o-ring I recommend replacing this as well I usually replace them every time I disassemble a de filter maybe I am over cautious but it works for me. I think someone suggested taking a look at the spyder gasket another good idea. And while you have the filter apart take a look at the manifold on the filter as well These can get cracked easily by overtightening and sometimes by just shear age. If this has happened you normally get de returning to the pool though not the skimmer. But again I would start off looking at the obvious before I would make any drastic changes. Good luck, David...See Morepoolguynj
