Adding heater for existing pool--things to know?

We have vacation house in FL and want to add a pool heater that we can use --mainly at Christmas when our family visits...
Our only power choice is electric--neighborhood has no NG and there are reasons why solar isn't practical for us...
Our pool guy had an electrician out to check what was needed before adding the heater...he said he will have to add circuit in the fuse box and 100 ft of electric cable...

We haven't talked to the electrician yet who was at the house to check out what needed to be done Friday, but what questions SHOULD we ask?
Our pool guy who has been very dependable in past 18 mo has used him before even if we haven't...

The electric boxes are inside the garage and the heater will go on outside wall on opposite side of the house--so I am guessing he plans to run the cable up through the attic (clay tile roof) over to the box...
is that a good plan?
Our attic gets very hot in summer...it is older home (70s) with not much of a raised roof or lots of ventilation

Should/will the heater have a surge protector or GFI breaker at its site vs at the box?

The pool is about 15K gallons--how large an electric heater should it take to heat it fairly quickly...
when I asked our pool guy he said it would take couple of hours--that sounds like very fast heating for a cold pool...

Any brands to avoid?
The pool guy has said before what he has installed and recommends but don't remember right now...

thanks for insight/suggestions...
