Looks like a tight space to fit a table in there. Is there a night stand under the window?

It's not as narrow as it appears in this picture. There currently isn't a nightstand on that side. I was thinking of a sofa table, something narrow. I do need something under the pictures don't I?

Unless you have a need for another table there I don't think I'd add another piece. If you feel it needs something, what about a one of those ledge shelves in black to match the frames

I dont think its necessary, it looks nice as it is. I would rather see a small skirted table or 2 matching nightstands with lamps....but I am more traditional.

I really can't decide what color. I don't think I would like a black table there. I would probably do the two nightstands but I also like everything symmetrical.
Does your dresser match your bed? I would like your dresser and sofa table in a matching color (distressed black or white -or green) and then leave the bed as is.

Yes, the dresser matches the bed.
GK5040 - I was planning to do 2 matching nightstands to the left and right of the bed. I have heard in the past though that pictures shouldn't "float" on a wall with nothing below them (however I do have many pictures in my home that don't have anything beneath them!). So it would be ok to do 2 nightstands alongside the bed and nothing under the pictures? If I go that route...what color/finish should I go with for the nightstands?
mlraf53 - I like this table!Would white nightstands work? If I don't need anything under the pictures, I'd prefer to go the 2 nightstand route.

I wouldn't put anything there. Visually, as you look to the wall, the bed really acts as the 'anchor' below the prints.

I would think about adding two smaller prints to close the gap on the bottom row, tho. It feels like something is missing.

How about black iron, glass-topped tables for either side of the bed, and change out the hardware on the chest to black iron as well.

IMO the photos are competeing with the main piece in the room which is the bed. I would hang the photos over the dresser and hang the picture on the dresser over the bed, to make the bed even more important and draw attention to the picture. Then have a nightstand either all black or with black trim to bring the black color over to that side of the room. An additional pillow with black, red (or is that coral) green as in your walls and tan would pull all the colors together.

Instead of a table in that spot -- how about a bench at the end of the bed? JUST a thought -- really!

Perhaps consider adding a mirror over the dresser with two tall thin black iron lamps?

And yes -- I believe that two nightstands or tables (perhaps in white or black) with matching lamps would really finish the bed area.

Maybe try the photos (which are a strong visual statement) on each side of the window in the seating area.

I think a mirror over the dresser, along with at least one lamp, is a great suggestion from teacats.

One other thing I meant to suggest, and forgot. I would paint the little ceiling angled area over the chaise in the wall color. The white breaks up the flow of the space, and that is not really the ceiling there, so it makes it feel kind of closed-in.

I like it as it is, but know what you mean about wanting to put something there. I think if you had a nightstand there with a nice soft lamp, it would draw away from from what you think is empty. The other thing, I think the arrangment might be a little off balance - as if you were planning to put something underneath. You may want to bring the middle picture down some, or raise the others a little, or even space them out some. I think that might take care of that "empty" spot. I love the look though - colors are graceful.

hmmm, as I look again, bringing the middle picture down may not cut it. Try rearraing them altogether - maybe three on one side witht he large one and one small one on the other. Not sure, but I think picture re-look would look better than a table there, unless it is a very small one - maybe a country-chic one that doesn't look too shabby-chic. I still would put a nightstand there - just to anchor.

I agree with many of the above suggestions - I would swap the photo gallery with the framed photo that is currently on the dresser, add two black nightstands, and paint the angled ceiling. Then you're done!

I do agree that it seems like the picture arrangement needs another picture in the middle. I like the idea of using the pictures over the dresser. Though most triple dressers have a mirror over them. I think black nightstands, or night stands that match your furniture, with black lamps on top would tie the black to the rest of the room. You took pictures of most of the room, what is on the wall we dont see?

I concur, nightstands would fill that void you are looking to fill with a sofa table.

How about a ledge or 10" or so shelf? Or a 3" ledge in the center and a longer shelf under the whole picture display?

Les917 - I wondered if anyone would mention that space between the pictures! Actually I'll be mounting 3 sea stars in that space, I'm just waiting for them to arrive.

teacats - I love the idea of a mirror over the dresser. It definately needs something. We've only been in our home since Sept. so we've just started to mount pictures and decorate the walls. I love the idea of the tall thin black lamps to frame the mirror. I'm not sure yet where I want the photo that is currently over the dresser. It's not mounted because I haven't felt like it belongs there.

I'm not sure about putting anything above the bed. The bed is so imposing that I have been afraid that adding anything more above it, would just magnify that. Because the headboard is so high, it just seems to me that adding something above it would be overkill.

The ceiling in that alcove was done that way by the builder. It is textured just like the room ceiling is, so I am thinking that it was designed to be ceiling. The plan had an overhead ceiling light in that space that we did not choose to go with.

If I leave the photos as they are, add the mirror and black lamps to the dresser, and decide to go with 2 matching nightstands...what color should I go with? Black, white?

I would not hang anything over the headboard. To me it would compete with the bed and, worse, create a real rollercoaster effect with too much variation among the heights of objects in the room. (This is a principle I got from Lauri Ward's books, & I've found it makes a lot of sense to me.)

Even though the builder textured that area, I would still paint it the wall color. It really chops up the look of that space.

I think you are right about nothing above the headboard. It is tall enough, and once you add lamps and tables on either side, you will have enough going on in that area. Sometimes the eye needs some blank areas as 'resting places', so as not to feel overwhelmed.

I would love to see something simple, like this parson's table, done with a frosted glass or maybe a stone top for another texture in the room.

The other choice would be a painted nightstand on the one side, in red for interest, and a round cloth-covered table on the other side (preferably on the right where it won't look too crowded) to coordinate with your bedding.

You definitely need a mirror over the dresser, with the black iron lamps that teacats suggested would be perfect. Then two simple black iron nightstands, with frosted glass on each side of the bed would help keep that color consistent throughout. The headboard is so tall that you don't need anything above it to interfere with your visual line. White nightstands would bring yet another color into play and it wouldn't have that symmetry that you like.

You can paint popcorn ceilings with a paint sprayer without too much trouble, and it helps make the texture disappear. That would pull together that corner with the chaise nicely.
