Double Wedding Ring quilt

I watched Cheryl Phillips on Simply Quilts and she was making a beautful DWR wall hanging by piecing and using an arc template.

I know LindaOH is making a DWR. Are you using the traditional pattern or one of the newer techniques?

Has anyone tried the new techniques by E. Burns, Cheryl Phillips, and Mr. Flynn?

I'll look forward to what you learn or what you're willing to share about your experience as you progress. I admire people who can work with curves.

I was going to take a New York Beauty class but it was cancelled since I was the only one who signed up for it. I'm not all that interested in the traditional New York Beauty setting but I was looking forward to learning to master curves.

One of the quilts I'm currently working on is North Winds and I've thought it might look good with a Pickle Dish border. Pickle Dish is two arcs of Double Wedding Ring joined without the rest of the circles.

Your quilt sounds lovely!!!!!!!!!!! I think the Pickle Dish border is a great idea.
I received a gift certificate for MD and I am going to buy E. Burns Egg Money Quilts. She has a template and pattern for a faster and more accurate than the traditional small hand pieces.
I can't order it until I come back from a short trip over the weekend. If our mailman leaves it on the steps it will drown with all of the rain we are getting LOL.
Ms. Phillip's book includes the arc ruler for $25, but at the moment I don't want to pay that much for a DWR pattern.
I'll keep you posted on what is in El's book.

Thank you everyone. I knew I'd gotten something else, it was a piece of type,not sure what it's called,but it has a photo of a woman on it that would have been used for a newspaper,and her name is written on the back,along with the word 'discard'. I need a magnifying glass to look at the name,but the first name is Helen.An interesting piece for .50,I'll put it in my old printers tray with my other small goodies. You noticed the magnolia Nona :) It's from the tree in the back yard near the deck,it split in half in the big storm ,but it's doing well now. It's a magnolia grandiflora, southern magnolia,we have a few different kinds,pyramid and the cucumber among others.

Oh those are beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been thinking of making a DWR for years, I love them. I bought E. Burns 'Egg Money Quilts' with a DWR in mind. She has a Christmas table topper that has 1 color corners. Many of the antique ones looked scrappy and had 4 different fabrics for the cornerstones. IMO either way is gorgeous!!! You know Pirate girl...you may be right! She might remember them if she sees them. When it was apparent she was loosing her memory, I made a huge scrapbook for her with hundreds of family pictures. It started with pictures of her and dad as children and then dating and marrying, all of her children and grandchildren, vacations we've taken, and holiday pictures. She loves looking at that book. I know she recognizes some of the people in the pictures, even though she doesn't know their names anymore. But she does know her mother's name and recognizes her. So maybe she will remember these quilts. I'll find out next time I go see her. Thanks for that suggestion! Cindy

I just bought several books by Eleanor Burns (one being "Egg Money...") and I'm totally fascinated with her techniques. I love that she shows each step so clearly and simply! And her books are so wonderful to look at. My favorite of her's is the newest one - "Quick Trip Quilts"!! And it was only $12.98 from Amazon.

I'm not trying to ambush the thread but I just wanted to mention El's books. Sorry...

I am using the John Flynn technique. I took a class last year before I started the quilt. It was held on two Saturdays so we could work on the first step before learning how to put all the arcs together with the background pieces.
Flynn's method has templates for cutting the background and for trimming the arcs after they are sewn.
I like this method and think it is much faster than cutting all the pieces of the arcs and sewing them together.
