Making a cut-out pic for boy's room

Hi all. I just started re-lurking again, haven't been on in years, but hoping to get started decorating and making our house into a home. So hopefully you'll be hearing more from me as I beg for advice.

I saw on Shutterfly that you could have a wall decal made of a photo. They cut around the subject and create the decal -- sounds pretty cool, but the size I want would be $80. I have a great pic of my son (3 years old) playing a guitar, and I've had the inspiration to print it up 20x30 ($15), cut it out, and glue it to... something. That's where you all come in. Can you get foamboard or something appropriate at Michael's? What kind of glue would you use? Would an exacto knife be sufficient? And any other thoughts or concerns this gives you. TIA!
