Problems with the leg again.....I hate this.

I guess it's time to get some new compression socks...mine must be stretching out to where they are not doing their job well enough.

Yesterday I started getting the rash on my legs again...Not as bad as it can sometimes be...but it itches and burns really bad.

The last doctor I went to for it said it is cellulitus (I'm guessing on the spelling)

June of last year was the last time. So I guess that's not too bad...Just another one of those things I hate dealing with.

Watch out- celluitis can be deadly-it killed my Mother in Law. Get those stockings replaced quickly!!!

Patti - did the doc prescribe any antibiotics for it?

I sometimes have trouble with contact dermititis - it sounds really similar to what you describe. I have to watch bra straps and some socks. They can give me a red itchy spot. I have found that as long as I don't keep a bra too long, I am ok. It must not bother when the latex is covered.

I was having some trouble around my ankle - and as soon as I dumped the old socks, and used some OTC triple antiboitic ointment the rash went away.

I thought for cellulitis they usually had you on anitibiotics right way. Doesn't sound like fun! Especially in the summer.

Howdy, Rose..a good excuse, but only two??? lol. Last night we went to HD and of all stores, Walgreens. Bought 2 plants at HD, Thanksgiving Cactus and bi-colored flower Cyclamen. BUT: We stopped at Walgreens for aspirin. Wouldn't you know it..adjacent the checkout counter stood a small table w/plants. At first look, they were common, but then, before I was about to walk away, there were two succulents. Ironically, while browsing Ebay yesterday, I came across a similar if not the same succulent as the one at Walgreen's. So, I bought one, though should have got both..Not a common succulent.. The outer ceramic, no-drainge container was made in Germany.. Oh, HD's plants were floating in water..A shame! Rose, I promise you..every room, even though there are plants, have furniture.. Last week we had installed LR carpet. Dh and DS hauled the desk, 'which used to hold a computer,' in the garage. Since we no longer keep a computer on the desk, I might ditch the desk. Might be nice for my tall, D. Marginata. lol. Hey Purple. Yep, Hoyas were Dead, Dead. I feel so bad. If it hadn't been for my knee plants would have been in a lot sooner. Yep, I learned a lesson...Hoyas cannot tolerate freezing temps and frozen rain. Although thick-leaf types did better, several leaves had dropped..many remaining are frost-bitten..so I have to remove a few leaves everyday..though not as many as before. Thank God! Mike..is the sun out there? Will your pics come out clear or dark? It's gloomy here, but temps are in the 60's. Still, too dark to snap a pic..I might try. Hey Purple, you and I have the same driving rules..speed unless the police are around..Great rule. I didn't know there were two people who had this right!

Annie, I know tons of people who store pans in their oven. I also just do not get it. The biggest disaster (lately) that I have created is to try to make a batch of bread that makes two loaves in my breadmaker. (Annie's maple oatmeal bread). Well, I never gave it any thought, but when the cycle beeped and I went to get it out to shape and bake, there was yeasty dough all over the counter, the floor, in the bottom of the breadmaker...yikes! We had to take the breadmaker and use a spray hose from the kitchen faucet to clean it out. Didn't know if spraying that water in it would hurt it or not, but I managed to make bread in it yesterday and it worked just fine. But what a mess to clean up!

I am canceling my service with Comcast. I have the $4.99 charge to cover me in case I need to have a service call. Well in April I did have a service call as one of my two phone lines was not working. The technician who came out broke my phone and did not tell me that he broke it. I found that out much later -- it should have been a hint when he did not want me to hold the phone. Then he or Comcast put a $70.00 charge on my account. When I called Comcast, I told them about this, they admitted that it should not have been there and they told me that they would credit my account on the next bill, but that I was expected to pay it and they would issue a credit. I need to check the statutes but I don't think you can collect on disputed charges, especially when you are aware that YOU made the mistake. For the $70.00 that should not have been billed, they interrupted the service. I refuse to pay it and have notified my local jurisdiction and the FCC. If you are looking for a cable or internet or phone provider, don't walk past Comcast, run as fast and as far as you can.

Just a quick update. We've been to the vet. He did an Xray to confirm heart problems and said that Ginger is Stage 3. According to the vet, this is not too late for medication to give her a good quality of life, although it certainly can't cure the problem. He put her on three medications. One to strengthen her heart. One to lower her blood pressure. One which is a diuretic and she is taking a fairly high dose for several days, and if her coughing goes away he will slowly reduce the amount until it seems right. The medication caused diarrhea the first night. She is still having the spells where her legs give out and they are worse than they were at the beginning. We haven't even taken her outdoors lately. I put puppy pads by her bed, and sometimes just the effort of climbing out of the bed to use the pad will bring on a spell. The vet seems to think that will improve. I hope so because it scares her when it happens. It scares us too, but it's her we're worried about, not us. We hate to see her frightened like this. We are holding on to hope for a little bit, but we won't put her through this indefinitely. Only a little while, as the vet seems to think there is hope and says today's meds are really good. He did say that her tongue is nice and pink and that is a good sign, compared to when the tongue turns bluish for lack of oxygen. Of course, he also reminded us that at 15 1/2 years of age, she is quite elderly and medicine is not expected to keep her feeling good (even if it gets her that way at all) indefinitely. My heart breaks for her. I will let you know how she is doing again later on.

DH had a bad case of cellulitis. He ended up in the hospital on an antibiotic IV drip because the pills weren't working. He's allergic to "cillins" so they had a hard time getting it to go away.

He got it again when we were in the mountains. Dr. gave him a 6 day antibiotic and it was gone in a flash!

Do you wear the compression hose all the time? Maybe the heat is being held in and causing the rash?????? Anyway, I hope you get rid of whatever is causing the itch and burn.

I am sorry about your legs Patti. I hope you can get some relief very soon, especially with summer coming on. Yes, the antibiotics will help so go to your Dr. ASAP. Also, replace those stockings. Can you get them fitted for you?

I struggle with health. I have found out in past not to share much,but that was in my case only.LOL

Cellulitis can be very serious, I've had it twice. The first time it was MRSA and I spent a week in the hospital, which likely could have been prevented if the first doctor who looked at it (in the Emergency Room) had taken it seriously. Make sure you watch it carefully and if the area spreads or gets a deeper red (or it gets more painful or hot) go right back to the doctor. You might even want to mark the area with a black circle so you can tell if it is spreading.

I was diagnosed with cellulitis in Feb by Dr. He wouldn't give me any antibotics, just told me if it got worse or didn't go away to come back to him and he would try to find an antibotic I could try! We have only found 1 antibotic I am not allergic to, so guess that was why he said what he did! It did go away finally.

I get a red, itchy rash, too, if I am on my feet too long, even with my compression stockings.
Especially if the weather is hot.
It used to be called stasis dermatitis but in reality it is caused by the leaking of the small blood vessels. Mine condition is due to venous insufficiency. The doc said it was part heredity and partly because I worked for so many years standing on my feet.
You may need to get re-measured for your compression hose....and maybe get an increase of the amount of compression.

Hi..I've been gone all day....

I went in to order new socks...She wants me to come in on Tuesday to get remeasured.

I think it will be the same...but I guess I ordered my socks (two pair) in June of last year. I didn't realize my socks were that old. My insurance company allows me 4 pair per year. I should have ordered some in Dec. and this probably would not have happened.

I have noticed lately that they are easier to get them on.

I didn't call my doctor about the cellulitis because I've had it so many time before and my lotion they order for me still had a refill on it...

I got that refill today. Hoping that will take care of it.

I have had it before covering both my legs from ankles to knees. I thought it was posion ivy that time (I think that was the first time.) Got it taken care of and two weeks later it was back again...got that taken care of and still a few weeks later it came back. That time Dr. sent me to a dermatologist...She is the one who said my sock were not working like they should. I haven't had any problem since I ordered the new socks...

You can be well assured I'll order a couple pair every six month now.

These thing are very expensive. I think she said they are $280.00 a pair. but my insurance pay all but about $20.00.

Getting here late, looks like you've gotten things taken care of, but gosh that sounds horrible!

Wow - I had no idea the socks were so expensive! Glad your insurace covers them.

DD had to wear compression sleeves on her shins for track season - but they are nothing like your socks. She had quite a time getting them on sometimes, but they helped her shin splints.

Here's another wish for your legs to heal quickly!!
