Callieandkarin, yes my boys are big and DD#1 has a male and he's even larger. My girls are a little more petite in the 15 lb range. I love ragdolls, once you have them you can never go back. They are so dog like that they were more of a dog than my actual dog,. LOL They used to beat the dog in run and fetch the ball and she was annoyed to say the least. Of course she was elderly by then but she loved her cats. So gentle, affectionate, loyal and clever. Are your cats crazy about drinking water from the tap? The girls used to turn on the tap every day to help themselves to fresh water drips- I had to wrap towels and stuff around all my taps for a long time to break them of this "habit". they also are constantly going around the house and opening drawers - or maybe that's the resident ghost? Kren pa - yes I think they do love the sink because it's cool. I have 4 cats - that's my limit - so sometimes they go into the bathtub or shower.

Thank you Annz and Sherrilyn. Yes, it was the granite installers who set the sink. I should have known.... Supposedly the granite installers are "one of the best" according to our gc, as well as our neighbor, who used a different gc than us, and our plumber. But this "one of the best" granite installer screwed up our original granite installation by mistemplating and/or mis-cutting one counter top so that it was about 2 inches too short on one end. The end result was a month's delay and we had to go out and pick NEW granite slabs because our original ones were one of a kind and unavailable to match the rest of the install that was okay. So I didn't end up with the granite that I loved (what I have is okay, but I don't love it) and now I'm afraid my sink is slipping. I have heard through someone else that this GC is no longer using this granite installer. Hmmm... So far the GC has not returned our call, but tomorrow my husband will make a more "urgent" one. I have a pit in my stomach about this because I don't know if once an undermount sink is already in, if it can be adjusted. I looked underneath and it looks like it is clamped onto the plywood subtop. Sherilyn, the floor in front of the dishwasher looks okay, but you have a good point in that our floors are not level so water could run underneath and pool at the sink. That is what has happened with this sink leak where the water pooled in the cabinet and then ran down the back and forward. The damage is actually not right in front of the sink, but a little to the right. I suppose I will have to call the floor guy, although my husband said the floor may flatten down a bit once it's dried. I am skeptical about that.

babyboomer1001: 100% silicone is perfect caulk between a sink flange and the bottom of stone. Polyseamseal and other Latex caulks are not; they do not have the adhesive stickiness or flexibility of silicone. It's best if you can pull your sink, clean the sink flange and stone bottom, recaulk with silicone and reinstall the sink. If this isn't reasonably possible, use a stiff plastic shim or plastic laminate to gouge the caulk out, clean the gap with acetone, and recaulk with silicone. Ignoring a leaking sink flange can have catastrophic consequences if your top has been "rodded" or reinforced with steel. If the fabricator used the wrong rod and/or the wrong bedding the rod can rust and blow up your top. I've fixed about 8 of these so far and it runs around $1,000.00-$1,600.00.

I think the grout is epoxy, as stoneonecorp guessed, because he mixed multiple small batches and worked very quickly, and I didn't see anything sand/cement-y involved. And I'm glad to hear that non-experts can redo that caulk sink seal with no apparent trauma. I was surprised when he told me that *I* should caulk over his grout seal. This is a guy who was recommended *very* highly by a lot of people: I called every single person on his references list and asked a lot of very critical questions. No one, not a single person, said, "he expected us to finish up the job; he told us to caulk our own counters." ISn't that part of the installation? Anyway, I think I know the answer to that. And given that he whined when we asked him to come back and re-seal the sink (which he messed up the second time as well as the first time -- all the while complaining that no other homeowner had ever asked him to do this, and that the sink is not his responsibility), I don't want him back in my house, because I think he's a jerk. So: sounds like I should recaulk the sink seal and caulk over the grout he laid. Yes? I'm going to use clear silicone and masking tape, so it looks nice. Any other tips, advice, cautions? Pamkcs, did you just rip the old sealant out with a screwdriver and clean what was behind it? As before, thanks in advance!
