runoff over coping in winter

It's been 2 years since we had our inground pool re-plastered and re-tiled. Plaster company said they could not replace the coping with the same style - curved lip white traditional coping.

They claimed that size was not available anymore. Instead they installed a brick coping which is flat with deck.

Well in the winter when we have heavy rains the water floods right over this flat coping into the pool carrying a million worms in with it. The worms must be under the winterizing cover. Every spring we have a very gross clean-up. The smell knocks you over when trying to prime the lines.

Any suggestions on how to dam up the coping to avoid this run-off problem? With our old curved coping we never had this issue.
