I'm reading a wonderful book: Anticancer: A New Way of Life by David Servan-Schreiber. He's a psychiatrist who had brain cancer. He says cancer cells appear in everyone's body and are disposed of by our immune systems. He tells what we can do to strengthen our immune systems and prevent cancer cells from surviving and growing. He explains a lot of science in this book, but it's not a difficult read. He's an excellent writer.

I just finished "Hot Mahogany" by Stuart Woods (a Stone Barrington novel). I just love his books.

Currently reading "Dark Horse" by Ralph Reed.

Just about finished with a book entitled The Cure for Modern Life by Lisa Tucker.

I'm in the midst of In Pursuit of a Proper Sinner, by Elizabeth George, and it is great. I thought I had read all of her Inspector Lynley books, until the current one, so it was a treat to find this one at a garage sale for a quarter. I nearly always have three of four books going at once, but I'm really hooked on this one, so I'm going solo on it!

Is it OK to have discussions of these books, or are we just listing titles and making recommendations?

Alisande, I haven't read that book, so maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think it does any good to "blame the victims" of cancer for not taking better care of themselves. He's probably right that the immune system has a lot to do with things, but living right isn't the answer to avoiding cancer!

Believe me, I lived right all my life, raised my kids as organically as possible having been raised that way, with plenty of exercise and no excess weight or alcohol, and, guess what....CANCER! The first member of my family to get it. I seldom got an ordinary cold (still don't) have no auto-immune diseases, low-blood pressure, not a single cavity in any tooth, so my immune system works just fine, except for cancer.

I'm certainly not pooh-poohing research and different approaches, but cancer is complicated!

I am reading "Fire By Night" by Lynn Austin, one of my favorite authors. I can't seem to put her books down once I start reading her. She writes Christian fiction. I was blessed and found a wonderful e-bay seller who I bought so many books from her and she likewise from me. Then we just started exchanging books for free to each other because we both had multitude of Christian fiction books. Some were alike, but alot were authors that neither of us were familiar with that the other loved. Isn't it neat when something like that happens in your life and you also find a friend who you can correspond back and forth and share your garden, homestuff, and grands with, plus bless a internet friend with a few of your favorite reads also?

Although I am an avid reader, I am reading nothing at the moment. I am in fact knitting like crazy making of all things Christmas presents. I know, it's only May, but I am a born procrastinator and must whip myself to do what needs to be done. Hopefully I will live long enough to read more books after the knitting is done. Vique.

Fern Michaels' Hey Good Lookin, it's a re-read and a very good book. I love the 3 sisters in it. LOL

"Mistaken Identity" by Josh McDowell and Ed Stewart

I've been reading Nora Roberts books for the past two weeks, about one book every other day: Dance Upon The Air,Blue Dahlia,The Stanislaski Sisters, and Sanctuary, to name a few. Now I am ready to move on to other authors. I enjoy Nora Roberts, but after a while, it seems all the plots become predictable and I get bored.

Just finished Christian the Lion. It tells the story from the beginning. From seeing the You Tubes, I didn't realize how long ago it was when the story began.

Also has pictures that weren't on the You Tubes.

I am currently reading "Red Lily" by Nora Roberts the third in her Garden Trilogy along 'Blue Dahlia" and "Black Rose" all very good. Mamatoad have you read the other two? If you liked "Blue Dahlia" you will also like "Black Rose" and "Red Lily'. I am also reading "Stolen Innoncence" by Elissa Wall and Lisa Pulitzer about the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints also very good.

Path Between the Seas, by David McCullough.

It's a history of the attempts to build a a canal somewhere in Central America.

VERY fascinating.

Right now I am struggling through "Late Nights on Air" by Elizabeth Hay. It is a selection for one of my book clubs and I'm sure it is a good book as it has received awards and much positive comment by those who know about such things. But it is not what I want to be reading right now. I have a shelf full of books crying out to me that I'd rather be reading.

I'm about half way through "The Shack" by William Paul Young, but I am not sure I will even finish it. It is so full of BS and it is supposed to be a serious read. Perhaps they should have called it "The Outhouse" instead.

Helen, I finished reading The Shack about three weeks ago, but I absolutely loved it!

It challenges us to take God out of the little box that most of us put Him in, but it doesn't read like a "religious" book. It was written by a missionary for his children, to tell them about God's love. I liked it so much, I have bought 3 more to give as gifts. People wonder how a God of love can allow horrible things to happen to his children. This is the journey of Mack, getting through the abduction and murder of one of his children. I highly recommend this book.

At the other end of the spectrum, I am now reading "Wicked", the life and times of the wicked witch of the west, by Gregory Maguire. It's quite interesting, too.

"Excuses Begone" by Dr. Wayne Dyer is next on my list. I saw him on Ellen last week. He is on Public TV in some area's. Not mine.

The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory. I am enjoying it and read a little every day before bed and sometimes before getting up too. Though I know the history of it all, I still find her historical novel quite interesting.

However, I was watching PBSs The Tudors the other day, and I do find their Henry VIII a little off both physically and personally.

I just finished reading "The Cat Who Saw Red" by Lilian Jackson Braun and I have to say I didn't care for it much. I don't like a surprise ending just to make the whole thing come out right....kind of disappointed in it.....can you tell........lol.

I'm also reading my Bible straight through ;o)

Shoot Don't Shoot, by J.A. Jance. And it's the fault of someone here on the KT who recommended her and made me go to Amazon, lol. These are fine little mysteries, set in the southern Arizona desert between Tucson and Bisbee, our old stomping grounds. Jance has another series, set in Seattle, that is next on the list.

I'm reading High on A Hill by Dorothy Garlock. I'm enjoying it so far.

I recently finished a collection of short stories about criminal cases (including The Salem Witch Trial!): "The Prosecution Rests", edited by Linda Fairstein. I seldom find a collection of short stores where I enjoy every single one, but this is that kind of book.

I like the Jacqueline Winspear books centered on England in the period between WWI and WWII. Most recent is "Among the Mad".

DH put in a request at our library for the new John Sandford book, "Wicked Prey". I think I've read all of his books.

Elizabeth George is another writer I admire. Goodness, I've actually learned some history from her books!

Love the S. J. Rozan mysteries. Another fine novel I read recently is "Pelican Road"; the author (can't remember name) has a wonderful ear for a period and dialogue.

I'm reading Outlander. It was highly recommended. I just can't get into it at all. Has anyone read it and when will it get better?

Amongst my stack of reading is "Tsar" by Ted Bell - it's a great spy thriller (think Bond in modern times)

jackie ok.... just put my name on the list for Gone TOmorrow, at the library. LOVE the Reacher books! Hate to wait for new ones, but now that we are retired, I had to stop subsidizing Barnes & Noble.

Just finished a G A McKevett... light hearted mysteries, mnain character is a 40 something, plus size private detective from Georgia, now living in California. Fun books.

The Perfect Poison by Amanda Quick

I am reading "A Vintage Murder" by Michelle Scott -- a fun little mystery series set mostly in Napa/Sonoma wine country. In this particular issue the characters are visiting Australian wine country.

In the books, you learn a little bit about wine & food pairings along the way, along with a recipe or two.

Next up is "The Ghost Orchid" by Carol Goodman -- I discovered her recently and absolutely loved "The Seduction of Water" and "The Drowning Tree".

I am reading "The Memory Keepers Daughter" right now. I just got The Shack from Amazon, will probably read it next.
