Do You Like to Host Dinner Parties? What's Your Secret?

Ok, I'll admit it: I hate to host dinner parties and feel inadequate in doing so. My parents didn't entertain much, and I wonder if I just didn't grow up with the knack. Yes, I love to eat a great meal with good friends, and I love to go to others' dinner parties. But my few feeble attempts at my own are not great experiences. I held one for six people last night. The food came out just fine, and the guest all got along well but I am exhausted. I am single, for one thing, so don't have a spouse to share the work with. Clean the entire house beforehand, shop for groceries and wine ($$$), spend all day cooking and worrying whether things will turn out, run back and forth to kitchen to serve, chat with guests for several hours trying for stimulating conversation, spend several hours cleaning up/doing dishes, fall into bed exhausted. How do you people who do this several times a month (I know you are out there) cope?
