I don't understand how it could damage the swg...I have Goldline Aqualogic...you clean it by soaking it in rather high mix acid/water...how does that make sense? Anyway, I recently drained half the pool and refilled due to high calcium hardness. I've been adjusting all chem's including a gallon a week of acid while the pump and swg are running. I add above return farthest from skimmer and suction points, and make sure the navigator isn't immediately nearby. I also turn on the water features to maximize circulation and even distribution as quickly as possible. Having a "cell power error" w/ swg currently, but Goldline rep doesn't see an issue w/ my chem method. Is Jandy that much different? Hope you can solve the prob... Ralph

Most LUXURY pool builders are opting to NO LONGER install salt chlorine generators, due to all of the related problems. Since it's a trickle down world.... mainstream builder won't get the message for years! a) salt increases the conductivity of the water turning it into a giant battery b) metals in the water can & will electroplate themselves onto other metals (SS railings, SS light rings, inside of heaters, even onto the plaster in the pattern of the reinforcing steel) c) the salts & splashed pool water are attacking the concrete pool decks & stone work d) components within the pool corrode faster (copper heat exchangers, light fixtures, metal fittings, etc.) Salt chlorine generators do not make the "water softer." They MAKE liquid chlorine (sodium hypochlorite) in the plumbing, by separating the salts (sodium chloride). The pH climes radically (the sodium hypochlorite has a pH around 13!), and not checked every few days can lead to severe staining (metal precipitation). Though a little sodium hydroxide is created, it is not of sufficient quantities to off set the extreme pH of the chlorine. Most ULTRA-HIGH END builders & designers are installing commercial ORP/pH sensors/controllers and are injecting liquid chlorine & CO2 to buffer the pH. The term "soft water" means that the water is LACKING in calcium. This is BAD for a pool, because calcium levels below 200ppm will cause the plaster to soften. The water seeks a balance around 200, and will suck it out of the plaster, cement, grout, or anywhere else it can find it. People with "salt water pools" ARE NOT swimming in "soft water."

I have an Aquapure 1400, am getting 120 and 121 error codes and the cell grid keeps coating up with CaCO3. All water conditions are within range except the Cl. Jandy sent me a replacement backboard but the problem persists. I have used a multimeter to test the transformer inputs. The 1-8, 2-7 and 3-6 tests are where they should be but the 4-5 test reads 60mVDC and it should read 120 mVDC. The output to the cell is 35 VDC but it should be in the range of 22 - 28 VDC. The old back board got similar readings. Do I have a faulty transformer?

Do the cells suddenly go bad. My SWCG was working fine without any warnings. It would seem that these cells would degrade and start giving some warnings or errors before they completely go ka-put. >> How many hours a day are you normally running the system? What output percentage is your's set to in normal usage? That varies, depending on the pool water temps and the time of year. In the summer, 12-18 hours per day. In the winter, 4 hours per day. Output automatically varies depending on water temps, too. >> What are your other chem levels? pH, Alk, CH, FC and either CC or TC. Dip strips are not, IMHO, valid. 7.4 pH, 80-100 TA, 4-5 FC, low CH. The only test strips I use are for salt. >> What are you using to test with? I use Taylor drop test chemicals for testing. >> How did you determine the salt level? Test strips, but I was actually higher (4200 ppm) than I thought, so I recalibrated the PPD (Pool Pilot Digital) almost a week ago. No change. >> When was the last time you cleaned the cell? A week ago, after the warning message showed up. Very little scale (as usual). >> What do you normally use to clean it? 25% muriatic acid solution, per the owners manual. >> Have you inspected the blades of the cell? Do they show any signs of wear? Some, but I don't know what wear is acceptable. The center blade is 2mm worn on the bottom, and 1.25mm worn on the top. Out blades are worn between 0mm and 1mm. Is this excessive? >> While you checked the leads, did you remove any corrosion on the male connector pins? Absolutely no corrosion or wear on the leads or cable. >> Do you have a picture of the equipment pad? I am also wondering if something in the general environment it's installed in could be the cause as these units tend to be extremely reliable. No picture, but the pad is open, clean, and very much environmentally friendly.
