What equipment would you ask for ease of cleaning

I have been searching this forum and have gotten a lot of good information and enjoy especially seeing eveyones pool build and beautiful pool pictures. It make me happy to join you.

The one thing I can't tell though is, what would you want in equipment that would make cleaning the pool and keeping it trouble free easier, if you could afford anything.

I see already that a SWG preferably an automatic one would be good. But what pump? Filter? Extras?

I'm looking at I guess would be a small poool 28 x 16, kidney shaped. Would asking for a 1 HP pump be overkill?

Good question, That's like asking 300 people what they had for lunch...Should be interesting.

I was also interested in design ideas and features that would make our pool more maintenance friendly. I travel a lot and wanted the pool to be as maintenance free as possible when I'm away.

We decided to go with an in-floor system combined with a negative edge. Both are expensive options, but the ease of maintenance was important to us. The negative edge acts as a big skimmer for the army of leaves we have in the fall and winter. This keeps most of the leaves out of the bottom of the pool so they do not need to be removed. The few leaves and debris that make it to the bottom of the pool are removed by the floor cleaning system.

The negative edge pit holds lots of leaves and is easy to clean periodically with a leaf net as it is only 3 feet deep and 3 feet wide. It takes about 2 minutes each day to manually remove the leaves with the net. If the pit goes unattended for a week or so, it takes about 10 minutes to manually clean it....that's it...no cleaning of the main pool at all.

No, as for my Kohler tub, I wouldn't call the bottom bumpy, maybe more like etched in a scrolly pattern. I noticed it looked dirty in the stores but I think that was because people had been stepping in it with shoes. My tub is the Memoirs line. Are the tubs you are looking at cast iron, acrylic or what? Mine is cast iron. If you aren't looking at cast iron, that may be why the bottoms look like bumpy or stickers. When I started looking at tubs, I didn't like the look of the bottoms, but now that I have one I see how much safer it is than the older tubs with smooth bottoms. Good luck in your remodel.

Caryscott made some very good points. I have had English speakers and non-English speakers work on my house and I have to say that there have been more problems from the English speaking ones in my case. Knowledge of a language, or lack of, is not the deciding factor in how things come out. Skill, attention to detail and communicating with someone until you understand are all very important. Even if someone can't speak directly to me, there is always someone who is bilingual around and gestures, pictures and drawings help. I have had my words ignored by American born contractors who were told in simple English, often with pix, and yet managed to screw something up anyway. I think it is more about gender tendencies than origin of birth (ducking from the men here, lol). My dh will often not hear something that we, or at least I, clearly discussed. Mistakes will be made. I am just sorry this one has been one that is not easily fixable. I am sure everyone feels awful. I don't think the gc needed to yell at anyone as that solved nothing. Talking clearly to the crew in the first place might have been a better strategy.

Kelly is right...a PB can use any manufacturer's products, but their costs may be calculated based on the volume pricing they get. I use Pentair, because I like the innovative products and the service I get. I personally have not gone with Jandy (Zodiac) over service and pricing issues and I left Hayward for the same reason. If you are concerned about Pentair warranty, rest assured they are the best out there. Pentair has a 3 yr warranty on equipment and a stellar warranty department run out of Houston. They have local service companies that are good and fast. They will never make you take in a piece of equipment for service. They always come to the pool site.

Have no idea why anyone would choose old electric for cooking when induction is really the choice now for so many reasons. I prefer gas but if i had to induction would for sure be my choice.All stoves get dirty when cooking so look at cooktops that are easy to clean . As for the controls that is personal choice.
