I bought a bottle of special cleaner which was recommended in the Kohler booklet which came with my tub. I had to order it on the phone, and it wasn't cheap either. The bottom of my tub after 3 years looks very good, though. I'm sure there must be some grocery store product which would work just as well.

Doesn't the Kohler have the same type bottom?

Thanks for your response. The Kohler tub I looked at had more of an all-over bumpy bottom. Still skid-resistant, but not the rough oval decals. Does your Kohler have the "decals?"

No, as for my Kohler tub, I wouldn't call the bottom bumpy, maybe more like etched in a scrolly pattern. I noticed it looked dirty in the stores but I think that was because people had been stepping in it with shoes. My tub is the Memoirs line.

Are the tubs you are looking at cast iron, acrylic or what? Mine is cast iron. If you aren't looking at cast iron, that may be why the bottoms look like bumpy or stickers.

When I started looking at tubs, I didn't like the look of the bottoms, but now that I have one I see how much safer it is than the older tubs with smooth bottoms.

Thanks. The Kohler Bancroft I'm looking at is acrylic. The American Standard Cambridge is Americast. I'm hoping that the dirt was from people stepping in, but wouldn't you think the store would keep them clean? (Other tubs didn't appear to look as black and the black was just on the decal part, not the whole tub bottom). That's why I was hoping to find out from someone who has owned the product for awhile if it is hard to keep the anti-slip part clean.

So we are talking about two different types of tubs. Have you asked on the bathroom forum? Whichever tub you get should have info with it as to how to keep the bottom looking nice. It probably is a matter of keeping after that chore on a very regular basis. We don't want our tubs looking like the ones in the stores!

I've had the Americast tub for four years in a bathroom that two people use--each person on average takes 2 showers per day--and the non-slip "decals" on the bottom are very easy to keep clean no extra scrubbing--in fact you don't even notice they're there. I use Scrub Bubbles by Dow.
