Eileen, you should have soaked them overnight. They look pretty dry. They will absorb a lot of moisture and that is what they need to get their hormones working for your plants. Hanging baskets in Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida and Texas are going to need watering about twice per day, to keep them looking pretty.

Thanks Patricia, I forgot about that part. I did line the inside of the coco with plastic (with some punched holes) as mentioned by others. Can I just get the coco exterior wet now? But with the plastic lining how would hormones get to plants anyway? I did use Miracle Grow soil in which to plant the flowers. And thanks for mentioning that I should water them 2x a day. I did water them this morning and I will check later this afternoon. Thank you for your help.

Eileen, if you have a tub thing like you shampoo a dog in or something similar size, set them both down in it with water for a few hours and let them absorb it. In fact, you can do that on the weekends when you are home and cleaning, put them in some water or even in your tub with water in it, and after you are cleaning put them back on their hangers, and they will appreciate a cool respite with water. I don't know if you have a fertilizing schedule but I do mine on Sundays half-strength Peters fertilizer and when I do that, I put them in that tub of water to soak up what they may. I have more big pots than hanging pots and I have to water all of them once or twice per day depending on the temperature and rainy conditions. Remember that you can fertilize hanging pots more often because they lose so much fertilizer in the watering process which dilutes the effect.

I bought a plastic baby pool for my dog and the water needs changing so I will use that to soak the coco. This Miracle Grow soil has fertilizer in there. But after a while I imagine the plants will have used that up. But I will start the fertilizing in a few weeks. I had no idea that one needed to fertilize baskets every week. Wow. Thanks again.

They look great, Eileen! I just saw these in my Big Lots yesterday and the 14" basket/liner combo was less than half the price I paid for just a 16" liner at my local garden shop. I've used them before so kicked myself for not checking there first. The liners were not as thick, but look just as good when planted up imo.

Yes, that $6 was a great price. I had seen these very small coco baskets at Lowes with one plant and dirt for $15 each. Only bad about these large baskets is the weight. I thought they were very heavy after I filled them with dirt and plants but now after soaking them in water, holy cow, they weighed as much as a cow. LOL. I really do like the variety of plants I used. Petunias, Lantana, Calibrachoa, Portulaca, Asparagus Fern, and another vine. They make the baskets much more interesting than using just petunias. Now I have some pretty colors to look at.
