Comments (13)Thanks for the feedback and compliments on the granite everyone. It sounds like all of you are on the same page and think I should wait. I am having a hard time figuring out how to make that happen. Our kitchen project is a remodel and we hired a general contractor to do the work. His crew does most of the work. Our project is scheduled to take six weeks. With the lead time on the tile, I can't wait until the cabinets and granite are installed and still have the backsplash completed as part of the project. Would you all still just wait? The pictures were taken in my current kitchen and the amount of lighting won't be changing. We live in a heavily shaded area and we have very little natural light in our kitchen even with windows along the back of the house. The amount of light wont be a lot different in the new kitchen. I know the piece of granite is just a small part of the slab but with some of the grey and tan tones in the floor tile I thought the smoke would work better overall. I think I am going to drive myself crazy with all of the decisions that have to be made before this project is over......See MoreHELP! Think I picked wrong pool tile and ledger combo
Comments (22)Hi Krista! Wow, it’s been so long since I shared this, I had forgotten about it. i decided against the concrete coping and went with stone. I selected the Pennsylvania stone and so happy i did! It looks gorgeous and blends in so well with my color scheme with its gray/blue color. I took the picture I posted above and enlarged it below so you can see the stone better. I hope this helps…would love to know your thoughts. Remember that concrete has a greater chance of cracking in time and I think the stone looks more elegant as well as being stronger....See MorePlease Help! Need help picking tile for bathroom remodel.
Comments (15)My opinion will be biased because I have very similar tile in my master we redid 12 years ago. 4" squares on the diagonal for the shower floor and 12" squares on main floor and up the shower walls. Coincidentally we are in process of redoing my kids' bath the past few weeks (it was also redone 12 years ago) because a hard-to-find leak in the tub prompted us to consider replacing it....which then brought about the issue of replacing the tiled tub-surround that would be damaged...and we would also have to try to retile some spots on the floor because a new tub would be a smaller footprint leaving some bare spots once old tub was pulled out. My point is that we also had to figure out the whole, "do we do an updated 'patch job' to save a lot of money, or do we just gut it and accept the cost as the price of being at peace with it/enjoying a new look and improved function. Right or wrong...which is always a very subjective thing....we gutted it and I'm thrilled. I was not interested in painting my cabinets just to have them have peel-issues due to steam, and we also got rid of the tub altogether and opted for a stand-up/walk-in shower for my older kids. Resale was considered on this issue...but by the time we move, someone can either love it as we've made it, or we will price the house with an "allowance" in mind. The old space had hot-chocolate colored walls and 'slate' porcelain floor and tub surround...an overall warm and cozy feel but also tired and dated. The new space is a porcelain 'marble' hex with white subway walk-in shower that is awaiting glass doors...an overall calming feeling that is also bright and fresh. I now actually wish SO BADLY that I was able to redo/retile MY whole bathroom (tile similar to yours). And there's nothing wrong with my bathroom, and a planned paint job on the walls will help me like it even more...... In my kids' bathroom, however, even unfinished with the floor and shower tile installed just waiting for the rest to come together (waiting on backordered tile base moulding) ......... I walk in and just smile and breathe deeply because of the way the space now makes me feel :) So my very biased vote is to gut it ;) ;)...See MorePlease help with picking backsplash tiles color!! Comments (11)Looking at your last photo, I'm not feeling the "countertops are too cool" reaction that grey and cream elicits. Marble has been used with cream tones for a bit of human history, and white your faux marble is faux, I love the way your choices look. Full disclosure, I have a cream and white kitchen. If you want a darker backsplash, eid6161 shows you a nice option. But, if you like the look of your last photo, and you may not, look for a tile that matches either your cabinets or your counter. Pick one. I'd choose to match the white counter, which is basically what your last photo depicts. In this cream and white kitchen, the backsplash matches the whites of the upper cabinets, while the cream counters and lower cabinets match. But they could also have let the white uppers stand alone and married everything else. (The article talks about cream and white kitchens.) https://mariakillam.com/cream-kitchen/ I'd steer away from the brown family shown on the current tileboard. Those tones are pretty muddy. I understand the instinct to repeat the wall tones, but I personally think the current contrast enhances both....See MoreRelated Professionals
