Please help me find scones for bathroom

I had planned to use vintage sconces in the bathroom. However my electrician recommended against it as they are not UL rated. I need to urgently find something so that he can install in the final vist next week. After that, I have to pay for a visit to install.

This is the mirror. You can see the height of the sconce on the left of the mirror. The paint is FB Elephant's breath.

Here is a photo before painting but you can see the sink and the shower end

That's very pretty gwlolo! What F&B color are you using in there?

I recommend that you check out Schoolhouse Electric. They do beautiful, vintage-y sconces. The quality is excellent and they're UL rated. It won't be a real vintage sconce, but it'll be the next best thing.

Hi Pirula,

I did look in Schoolhouse. I love their lghts and hae some classic flushmounts from them in my kitchen. The problem is that for this bathroom, I need something that does not project too much and possibly pointing up.

BTW, the paint is Elephant's breath and I really like how soft it looks. Thanks to Pal for that suggestion. The second and third pics are just the plastered drywall. I will try to get some more recent pics. I also have a small chandy there, that may be useful to consider when picking the sconces.

I just ordered this one. I like the clean lines and it also will hold a 75 watt bulb so it will be a little brighter in there. I do have a recessed can light in the shower but this way it will give a bit more light. Someone on this board said that the round lights look like "boobs" and I just kept thinking of that everytime I looked at a round light so this one solves that mental image!! Thanks for all your suggestions!!

A picture woulld be helpful. Is this a full bath? Master bath? It sounds like you are limited on the size of the fixture due to the depth of the soffit --- maybe 11-12" at most? Would it work to use a track lighting fixture?Here are some examples. We used one in our laundry room to try to get more from the single small fixture there. Is this over the vanity but has to light the entire room? How large is the room? Is there a way to add any other lighting -- wired, plug in -- any thing? Is there a power vent in the center of the room or near the toilet (is that in the same room?). You, can get a vent with a light or light with a vent, as the case may be. Don't get to scrimpy on the lighting. Even if your budget is tight, it is important to have proper lighting.

I agree with Cpartist"s layout and like moving the closet over as suggested by D M so that bedroom 3 has easier access to the bathroom. Do you have room to have the toilet face the tub and add a linen cabinet next to the toilet? How wide is the tub toilet area?

Love the tile!

I'm surprised at that as it should be a piece of cake to rewire the fixture so that it is safe, if not UL rated....

DH rewired the sconces we salvaged from the old house and they work just fine...I loved the capiz shell shade. As long as the metal parts on the guts are clean and the wires are new and unbroken, there shouldn't be a problem.

There are places that will rewire antique light fixtures as well....

I tuned in mainly to see how "scones" would be used in the bathroom, LOL.

Sorry.

But if you need them next week, I don't think you're going to be able to order from my favorite place, which is Rejuvenation Hardware.

My concern is that any sconce is going to be crowded on the left by that smaller mirror on the adjacent wall. Can you remove that?

You might check out Rejuvenation anyway, maybe they can fed ex. Otherwise it seems to me that you'll have to shop locally to get the fixtures in time.

Nonsense. He's just out of line. Not UL listed? Of course not.
I guess that means I have to remove all the vintage fixtures in my house because HE SAID SO! UL listed started in 1894 and I'm sure the label could have fallen off by now. If the wires are in good shape, like AnnieD said, use them. Or say "thanks, but no thanks" and put them up when get them re-wired. It's an easy DIY project.

Is this new construction where you will require a certificate of occupancy or similar document? If so, my electrician said the same thing. We had to install cheap mushroom lights as our "sconces," and then install the vintage ones after move-in.

Oh, rats! Like sueb above, I was wondering about the scones....thinking perhaps it was a treat while submerged in a nice long hot bath. In fact, that sounds good, so maybe I'll just have to try that right now....
