Need Home Selling Tips
Comments (18)I use clove scent around the kitchen and lemon or vanilla in the rest of the house. I'm getting ready to sell my parents' home and planning for the staging furniture pieces, interior scent, and flowers outdoors is our next step. Large pots near the garage door and the front door with yellow mums and some silk maple leaves in fall colors is on the agenda. Windows have all received new treatments, in light colors and fabrics. Floors have been thoroughly cleaned, polished and scrubbed to reflect as much light as possible. Carpeting is steam cleaned and all kitchen surfaces are disinfected and sweet smelling, including the insides of cupboards. Staging pieces are shiny and only the most interesting bits have been chosen, to look tidy and homey at the same time. Esthetics are everything when you sell a house. How it looks and how it smells can make it or break it. If the roof is new or the furnace is high effeciency, buyers can't see that and won't really care. They want clean. Comments (7)Went to the ER and it is broke. Doctor was very nice and told me I did the right thing attempting to tape them together. X-ray showed it is broke and because of where the break is the doctor wants me to wear one of those lovely "shoes" for a couple weeks. That way my foot will sit right and hopefully the break will heal properly. They all know me in the ER and know what I am dealing with so all were very nice and got me taken care of right away. Now, on the way in the door of the ER my dad stepped the wrong way and pulled a muscle in his calf! I ran in to a PT guy we know and he said that if it continues to bother him I should get him checked out because of his age but more than likely it is just a pull so he showed me some exercises he can do to make it better. Dear Lord I hope this is it for a while! We did go see mom and she is being released back to the nursing home today. The doctor called me this morning and said her liver and kidney functions, still has "rattle" in her chest but that is better also. She looks and sounds much better. Doctor said he thinks some of the throwing up comes from her shoving too much food in her mouth at one time, so he is ordering speech therapy to work with her more at the home so she gets in the habit of smaller bites. Dad and I just came home as there was no need for us to sit there and wait for transport for her. Mom was not too happy but that is just too bad, my toe hurts right now and is all swollen. I know in a day or so it will not be so tender but right now I am going to baby ME! How's that for a self centered attitude? LOL!...See MoreSelling or not selling a house.
Comments (16)I actually am the one who is working more closely with the agent. But he lives in the house and I don't, so he was there when the inspector did the inspection, and took a dislike to him for a couple of reasons. And he was there when the realtor dropped off the inspection report and started to go through it with him. He was obviously getting so angry that the agent stopped and they agreed she would talk to me. I think the process is actually going pretty smoothly but he took the inspection as a criticism of the condition of the house and of his maintenance of the house. And since he's very attached to it emotionally, he's having a difficult time with it all. He had planned on dying there -- he said as much when he moved in, not just recently--and this goes against the plan....See MoreFirst timer in need of emotional support
Comments (10)Welcome to the forums Shana. Honestly, there's only one piece of advice I can give you and it may sound very trite but here goes. You aren't alone. We've all been there. There's an old saying that your willingness to accept change only happens when the fear/pain of remaining where you are overcomes than the fear/pain of moving to a new situation. You are there. You've had some challenges, of course, and yours are unique to your situation but not materially different than anyone elses. For example, I currently own 7 properties. I'm far from "homeless" and yet I ended up renting an 8th home from someone else while I waited to locate and close on my primary residence. See? Different circumstances, same situation. This too will pass, and in the scheme of things, will pass very quickly. Use the time while renting to go to some home improvement shows, catch up on these forums and HGTV, plan out your upgrades and the budget to spend for same. Do it together, both you and your husband. Shared dreams are so much more vivid than individual dreams. And make some memories while waiting.... True story. Shortly after the birth of our first child, we moved from our fixer-upper (which was totally fixed up by then) to a new custom home we had built. I had a contingency on our existing home that it had to sell prior to closing on the new one and it was mid December and we still didn't have a buyer, although our new home was scheduled for completion in mid-January. We were terrified, scared every day of not being able to move into our new home, losing some of our deposit and more importantly, having to watch our "dream home" go on the market and potentially be bought by someone else. On December 20th, we got a cash offer for our home but with the condition that we vacate by Christmas Eve so they could spend the holiday there with their family. Short summary to this story. We worked it out so that they spent the Christmas holiday in our home and we spent ours in a Residence Inn. My daughters' first Christmas was spent in a rented hotel room, just the three of us. At the time we were totally relieved just to know we could move into our new home later in January but it was a little depressing to spend that holiday "homeless." But funny enough, my wife and I still look at those pictures, recall that story and just laugh about what a special time of bonding it was for our happy little family. Take solace in the moment. They are precious and few when you get a chance to look at your life, and future, through a new set of lenses. You've got that opportunity now. Carpe Diem....See Morelittlebug5
