Are you happy with your woven wood shades?
Comments (7)We have 3 windows with bamboo type shades. 1. Can you easily see the dust on the darker colors? No 2. The color I like is kind of a mesh material, but my husband thinks the mesh textures are dust collectors, do you agree? I'm thinking I should choose a different texture that is easy to dust with a swiffer duster. I think they are pretty easy to dust but I may have broader style 3. I live in a dry climate, will the shades get dry and brittle over time? They are expensive to begin with and I don't want to have to replace them. I don't think so 4. We have really strong sunsets, do I go with a light filtering liner or a blackout liner? Depends on how much light control you need. alot depends on the type of shade too. Our bathroom shade is woven more densely and hardly lets any light in. THe other 2 shades are more loosely woven and let more light in. All of them are unlined. 5. Are you happy with your woven shades??? Any pros and/or cons? Do you have any other recommendations? I love mine! I agree that if you're going to be opening and closing them frequently then spend a bit more and get a good quality shade. Comments (4)An easy, inexpensive solution would be to install vinyl roll up shades behind the woven wood blinds. Due to a neighbors spotlight that shines into our bedroom, I installed a blind with blackout vinyl behind the Duettes. Works great and cannot be seen....See MoreWoven shades - how to do it right
Comments (10)I have woven shades in the sitting area of my kitchen. I usually only close them when it is very hot and sunny. They do a nice job of filtering the sun but still let a little light in which I like. The wood slats in my blinds are a combination of match stick and approx. 1 inch strips so they are not as see through as just matchstick. My blinds came with an attached valance. I bought my woven words and numerous other window treatments over the years from American Blinds. They carry different brands as well as their own brands. They will send you free samples. I did the measuring and installing. It was not difficult at all. If you are worried about getting the measurements correct, I believe for a small fee when you order you can insure the fit. I have never used that service. It's not that hard to measure. Just follow their instructions. I have been 100% satisfied with ordering from them. Comments (15)Cheril-Ohhh, I know that blog oh too well...I discovered it from someone on this site (or propbably multiple people) and I added it to my "favorites!" Like ajsmama said, though...I am trying to do *affordable*, plus, I cannot even say I like the idea of mounting the blind on the soffitt/drywall above the door...because if the blinds are down, you can't open the door, and I would like to have that capability. I really was considering this just cuz I wanted to be "different" and I thought it would be somewhat reasonably priced. I wanted to have WW blinds *AND* drapes/panels just cause I like the varying textures. I may have to forego that idea after tossing it around with you folks...I just don't think it is practical. side note: my front doors are also french doors. On these, I am definitetly doing some sort or blind, because I don't want drapes at my front door, that would look weird. I need to do something SOON...I already answered the door in my bathing suit because I was expecting a friend...and it was a solicitor! :0 The front doors are double french doors. The back patio is one french door in the middle, with a pane on either side. red-I am probably going to go with just drapes. That was my original plan, guess I am back to it!! :)...See MoreWendyB 5A/MA
