I got carded!

I was buying a bottle of Kentucky bourbon for my father the other day and the cashier at the liquor store (she was about 50 yo) carded me! Ok, I have no delusions that I look 20 (I'm 40). But it still made me feel great, it must mean I look no more than 30 (or so) right? She didn't card the lady in front of me who looked about my age. And last month the guy at the sneaker store thought I was his age (28 he said). He made some cultural reference I didn't get and when I commented about being a different generation he said, "you're not that much younger than me".

I was so happy, you couldn't wipe the smile off my face. And then I remembered what DH said ... I've been trying to lose weight and DH says that when I do I'll look older because "all the wrinkles won't be stretched out". Nice.

And it's only the FACE that looks young. The rest of me is a mess.

Does give you a lift, doesn't it? I remember when I was about 7 onths PG with my second baby and was walking to the store and had to go by a construction site. A couple guys whistled at me, and I just about floated to the store and back home. Sometimes our egos need a little nudge. Dottie

I got carded the other day too--I was buying cigarettes for my husband. The cashier said they have to card anyone who looks 30--I was sure smiling big that day---I will be 45 in a couple of months!! Sheila

Yes, I think I have a total of five so far. I don't have a mantel, so I decided to put them all up on the high dresser in my bedroom. I'm planning to take a picture of it when they've all come in. I have to say, it sure makes going to the mailbox a lot more exciting!! Thanks to everyone who participated!

I get carded a lot too - to see if I'm old enough to get the senior citizen's discount at the movies! (BTW, I'm not.)

Wow, what a great compliment, Sue! Any tips to give us? Do you have a special facial routine, have you always stayed out of the sun? I could use all the help I can get, lol.

Well, I'm glad you're all having these great experiences.
I had the opposite happen to me this weekend at my brothers greenhouse. A 60ish lady from a local town comes up to me and Says, "Hi!, how's your brother doing?
I reply, "He's doing fine, he's around here somewhere."
"You mean he's out here today from the nursing home?"
She thought I was a brother to my 92 year old uncle!!! I'm 52. I felt like going home, crawling into bed and pulling the covers up over my head. I realize having 5 kids has aged me but, I didn't think I looked that bad.
Bigbaby thinks it's hilarious when someone mistakes her for my daughter instead of my wife.

Secrets? Hmmm...good genes? My father is 69 and looks like he's in his mid 50s. Only gray is on his sideburns and he only has deep creases around his eyes, his face isn't crosshatched with little ones. And he's never used sunscreen, but he is 1/8 Native American. But I have my Irish grandmother's skin - very white. I've never been someone who tries to get a tan, and I try to wear spf on my face all year (but often forget). Right now my hands and face are pretty freckled from standing out in the sun for and hour on Saturday chatting with my cousin. But I'd say it's 75% genetics. And I never smoked. But as I said, the rest of me is a mess - too much yo-yoing on the weight is a killer. So I look good in clothes, but lousy naked!
