Thanks for the comments- you can see we need to sort out the furniture a bit, a little bit of everything! We want to add an outdoor fireplace before fall and have been looking at some prefabricated units on line. Guess we're a bit eclectic! Thanks again.

That looks really, really nice! I think you're going to have mulch issues in that first pic, it might wash down into your path every time you get a moderate to heavy rain. Maybe plant some ground cover along there that will eventually fill in and do away with the need for mulch on that steep slope. I wish you'd come here and build my pond, yours looks almost exactly like what I have in mind for ours :-)

tresw, thanks for the feedback. Surprisingly, the mulch has held well through a few big rains but we're going to work in some ground cover as you suggest. We have some Ajuga in another part of the yard and we'll move some of that over to this area. Been too busy swimming lately to get it done though.

We put the pond in about 5 years ago and it's now self sufficient. Dug it and lined it with a rubber liner and it is enjoyable to watch the goldfish. It's about 3 feet deep at the deepest point which let's us keep the fish in year round as long as we keep a hole open in any ice layer. Found a few sites like this one to help us along and it was actually a lot of fun to build.

Turned out very nice. I like how everything finished and looks so natural. I'm partial to wooded lots also and will be landcaping our wooded lot with pool this fall when it cools down. It is far too hot here in Louisiana this time of year.

Just curious, what approach did you decide on to fight the army of leaves that will be invading later this year. I remember trading some posts with you when you were planning your pool as I had to wrestle with the same decision and ultimately went with the floor system and negative edge acting as a big skimmmer.

When we cleared the area for the pool, we ended up clearing out a few more trees than originally planned to push the edge of the woods back a bit. I think what we'll have going for us is that by the time the leaves start to fall in any real numbers, we'll have closed the pool where you may not even close yours where you are? Hoping the cover will deal with most of the issue. The backup plan is a neighbor kid to rake leaves often!

I remember you had posted pictures of the pond before you did the landscaping and it was already looking quite nice :-) The wood walkway accentuates it beautifully. I may have posted this in your other thread, but I have a koi pond that is about 8 years old. If I had it to do over again I would do goldfish instead of koi, I'm sure you know why. Anyway, the koi are my babies now (several have even been born and raised in that pond) so I'm committed to them. I need to do a much larger pond to transplant them into. The filtering is going to be the biggest challenge, a koi pond requires a tremendous amount of bio filtering area to stay clear.

Yes...you're correct...we do keep the pool open year round. If you will be closing the pool, then the leaves will not be as much of an enemy as it is for us.
