Longaberger pottery now made in China?

I recently decided to order some new dinnerware in the ivory woven traditions pattern. Many years ago I collected Longaberger baskets and the blue pottery. I used my pottery for about 15 years until changing over to some Pottery Barn white dishes and passed my old Longaberger to my 21 year old who is in college. The quality of the Longaberger was just great and really solid made. So, I decided to order some more and when they arrived--Made in China! I am so disappointed! What happened to the master potters and basket weavers the Longaberger Company was so proud of? Just needed to rant! I'm done.

Devil's advocate here - the Chinese invented ceramics and porcelain a long time ago...

China is back in China.

I don't think ALL their china is made in China. Only certain pieces. As a long time Longaberger collector of baskets, china and w. iron, I am also unhappy with the shift. I was willing to pay their prices to support American workers, but am no longer willing to pay those prices for outsourced jobs.

Like most of you I miss NorCal. When I lived in the BA there was a place that sold seconds on clay chimney pots that I used as garden containers. No bottoms but elevated the plants. All shapes and sizes so it looked way cool. It was in Berkeley somewhere. Don't remember name but I found it under "tiles". Good luck.

I have the willow friendship girl from friend in Tn. She has flowers in her hands like she is going to give them to me(flowers are wire). They are so sweet.Love all your decor & dishes. I notice something tho, your tray is different than 1 they show in 1985 Hall book by Margaret & Kenn Whitmyer. The tray on page 37 has round handles on end like the 2 side ones on yours but bigger.I like yours much better Since it was only made in 1975-disc. in 76 both kinds would be quite rare I would think. They made so many things in Autumn Leaf, playing cards,bowl covers(shower cap looking)linens, canister sets, flour sifter, thermos( about 1 gal I think with spigot )Metal pieces the finish disappears at sight of water they said.Bread box & cake carriers, cooking pots & even a kitchen chair which is probably worth a fortune now. Jewel Tea came around our neighborhood but never stopped at my house, seemed to have appointments at 2 houses over in cul -de- sac?? I love the Aladdin teapot, it's such a neat shape. i have a 6 in tall water pitcher or maybe coffee pot(no rim indent or anything) got a few months ago for $1. couldn't pass that up! Gold little thin around top of it but in great shape otherwise. Glad you got a cabinet just for your beautiful collection!! Yea I'm looking for utilitarian too but I'm trying to stay away from plastic and ceramic made in china. I do use plastic all the time, just trying to use something else if I have choice. On eBay they have those old spun aluminum canisters. I've been wondering how well they seal. There's an auction now for a set that's brand new never out of the box. Sort of ugly but they aren't for the counter. Wish I new more about them.

I dont approve of chinese labor and it has nothing to do with the quality... which is spotty some good and some clothes had a sleeve that wasnt fully attached! Most people just assume its the same as it is here with federal regulation protecting their workers... but you can find reports by children like age 13 talking about how they have to work 16 hours a day 28 days a week and get promised pay at the end of the year and only if they work till then, and beatings for unsatisfactory work. An people either say they are happy for the work they do get despite suicide nets or just put it out of mind and say well it was bound to happen as if their money is paying to keep those children under the heels of borderline slave labor camps.. because minus the "promise" of distant very low pay and that is what it is, people have gotten far to comfortable at passing the buck, and pretending like they didnt contribute to those horrible things. Change starts with you, everything you do matters and yes even when its inconvenient.

Cars were first made in America as well as rubber tires but well you get my drift....McDonald's an American Icon but now...Sorry, I don't want my formerly loved and valued American and European items being mass produced by child labor in China..but that's just me.

I was also shocked...and to Pharaoh: China May haven started in China, but when it was made by hand, it was not made with dangerous chemicals and dyes...and designs weren’t knocked off and stolen as intellectual property.

I suspect that the certified China was just too expensive to produce in a union shop like the one in Ohio....or after the patriarch died, the kids got greedy and stupid. Profit seems to be more important than quality. Unless you’ve owned this dishware, you cannot grasp the difference in quality from pottery made in a Chinese factory. It’s not the same...even to the touch.

Longaberger moved to China in 2005 and returned to the US in 2013.The quality of products made in China has declined as they cut back on everything to save a buck.Longaberger did an injustice outsourcing to China and made their product inferior.There needs to be quailty control people at the factories in CHina.
