I think your individual components are lovely. I like the shape of the window treatment, and think it will be very pretty.
I would paint the sideboard and leave the tall cabinet wood colored.
I am the world's most awful decorator, so pay no attention to me!
The dishes and the chandelier are beautiful though....

I'm one who needs, rather than gives, advice, but I love the AB crystals and the uniqueness of the entire space and your framing of the window within the arch. I can't wait to see what is suggested and how it comes together.

My thought is that the AB crystals say "drama" while the china and aqua silk say "delicate". I don't know if that means anything.

Thanks so much to both of you! I still have more swatches coming, but that fabric is the closest I've come so far to the color I have in mind.

I'm glad you like the valance. Making up that pattern was a bit of a chore, but I really wanted to get it right before I cut expensive fabric.

I'm going to pick up more paint chips, too. I could go either way on painting, but that built in is kind of tacky wood, and wasn't finished very well the first time.

I was also toying with the idea of a small, somewhere between 24-36", round pedestal table to go in the middle of the room. Any thoughts on that?

I like it hanging higher up because it does not cause the horizontal line you see when it is hanging lower. I think if you hang it higher it will cause the chandelier to stand out better. The horizontal line makes it busier to the eye. (But I am not a good decorator so take it for what it is worth!)

you have very pretty things to start your room with! Can you show us the paint color that you are using on the walls. I think that would help with ideas for painting, or not painting the furniture.

Homebodymom, the paint color is actually on the walls. In my flash pics, it looks more stark white, and the non-flash pic makes it look more yellow. In person, it's a very pale cream. Not too stark, but not too yellow/blue/gray/pink like a lot of creams can look. The PO's used that paint, and so far we like it, so it stays.

Thanks so much for the compliments! We found the chandelier in the attic a few weeks ago, and think it's probably original to that room. I have some replacement parts coming any day now, and we just need to get it rewired.

I've had those plates packed away, and was thinking of selling them, but have held onto them, because I think they're just so pretty. When I was cleaning up the chandelier, I was wondering what other colors to use in the room, and the crystals have that wonderful aqua/pink/purple shimmer, and it reminded me of those plates! The chandelier was sort of the starting place for the whole room.

I like the plates, too. The chandelier will be nice once you get it installed. Have you considered painting the back of the shelving area of the built-in the color of the valance or a lighter blue as in the plates? If most of it is the wall color, but you have the back of the glassed-in section and maybe the back of the open area painted blue, you might have the extra color you wanted. If you hate it, you can always repaint it the wall color. Not sure-sort of thinking out loud.

Hi Jamies! Fortunately/unfortunately, I haven't made much progress. I got distracted working on two other rooms, so I haven't done much with the DR.

I did choose the fabric, and I've got a paint chip picked out. I finally got all of the chandelier parts we needed, but haven't had it rewired or installed yet.

I did "find" an old frame that I'm going to have a mirror made for, though. I had bought the frame years ago. Never found the right spot for it, but could never get rid of it because I loved it. I found some old brass candlesticks to go with, so this is the arrangement I have in mind:

Now that the other rooms are at a stopping place, getting this done is my next priority. We usually have company over the summer, so I really want at least the light up and the curtain done by then. And I need to get that china hutch painted before it gets too hot!

That's a pleasing arrangement. I've been experimenting with aging mirror glass; I wonder if you can buy it pre-aged.

I'd be interested in seeing how you bring everything together. There's a wonderful little shop near me called "Bohemian Home" that I love to poke around in, and your DR has a similar feel.
