Bathroom Remodel Lots of Pics
Comments (8)Thanks for all the great comments. We got all of the lighting finished this week and now I can actually *see*. LOL Mirrors are the next step. Staceyneil - I hadn't thought of using the bathroom as a sort of mudroom. What a great new use for it! Itltrot - Our plumber has done a couple of bathrooms with the controls outside of the shower. It took a little getting used to, but I like it a lot now. I'm much more stressed about the kitchen and there are only little things that need to be done elsewhere in the house. I never thought that we could rebuild a house in such a short time, but it's been ok....See MoreConverting Jack n Jill bathroom to two private en suite bathrooms
Comments (20)I'm assuming from what the OP said that they don't want or need hall access to a bathroom that one of the bedrooms isn't going to be used as a bedroom. I also LOL at how home builders are so overspecific in naming the rooms on their floorplans. Like everyone wants a game room in the middle of all the bedrooms and home office, just the thing to ensure a good night's rest or undistracted working at a desk. One small item I find really irksome in this floorplan: the door to the master bathroom toilet room is ideally positioned to (a) block the entry from the bedroom when open, which it assumedly would be when not in use, and (b) whack the person using the sink when unexpectedly opened from inside. Also, that door to the upper left bedroom is a weird one. Perhaps to keep it from blocking access to the J&J bathroom when open, it's hinged on what would otherwise be the wrong side. As it is, especially since the bedroom closet extends further than the door opening, the door must be opened an awkward 180 degrees to enter the bedroom from the hallway. Another reason that favors making the upper right and lower left bedrooms the two en suites. This post was edited by lee676 on Wed, Jan 21, 15 at 15:32...See MorePatio door in shower/outdoor shower?
Comments (3)Just saw this question this afternoon. I'm not excited about a sliding glass door in the shower itself, but I have a couple of other thoughts. The house we moved into last year has an outside door that opens from the back patio to the master bathroom. There is no pool, so I'm not sure why it was built that way, but there it is. There are about 2 steps from the outside door to the shower door which is handy if you're coming in dirty (or sandy). Here's a clever thing we saw at a hotel in Hawaii recently. The sandiest part of someone coming in from the beach is your feet and lower legs. This "Surf Splash" is hooked up to a hose and turns on when you put your foot in. It actually works! (For those who don't live near a beach, sand sticks like glue!) Having finally been able to bring up the page with their prices, I see they're a tad expensive. Yikes! https://surfsplash.com/shop/...See MorePICS included - Layout for Shotgun Master Bathroom 6x17?
Comments (17)Apologies for delayed reply on these! Thanks for all of your responses. @littlebug - We would be keeping this house for our future kids to inherit and/or for use as a rental/AirBnB. We are also planning on using the equity to fund future real estate investments as it grows, since this area is by the water and the land value has historically only increased here, despite the bubble collapse in past years. Not contradictory statements, but one wouldn't know that without the background information. @hcbm - I don't have kids yet, so I don't have a frame of reference, but isn't filling an inflatable tub commensurate with filling a normal tub? Are you speaking to the inflatable part? @Karenseb - It IS a huge shower - I think it was originally a steam room, but it doesn't function that way anymore. Glass wall is a great idea. @North Texan - YIKES, I have no idea where the access is. The tub is completely tiled around. I can only guess that it must be underneath in the crawl space. We have the same issues you describe; black bits floating no matter how much I clean it. It's awful, but it is free since it's what we currently have, and it is not a big one. I like your idea of the pony wall and I REALLY like the idea of the outlet in the makeup area. @Sigrid - Do you regret keeping it? Is it for the same reason that concerns me, that losing a tub will have an impact on resale?...See Moretresw
