What do you wish you still had?
Comments (24)Those of you who know my "love" of phals will really laugh at this one! I am happy to say I do not miss a single plant that has died. Don't get me wrong, I probably mourned, but I have undergone so many changes in "orchid affections" that I really don't miss any of them. And the ones that I gave away or traded? Well, good riddance! OK, so the ONE? A phal!!! And the only reason why I miss it is that DH gave it to me (a HD phal), and it eventually spent a tortuous summer getting sunburned, and then, since I can't stand phals, (but they hate me too, and refuse to bloom) I decided to give it to my mother as a starter orchid. Well, close to it being mailed, I noticed a spike! Well, I felt committed to giving it to Mom, and against DH's advice ("She'll kill it!"), I sent it to her. She killed it. DH and I really had no sentimental value attached to this plant. But a shade plant that took A LOT of direct sun (my live or die regimen), got sunburned to hell, and THEN decide to bloom?! I should not have sentenced it to certain death. That's why I miss it. It didn't deserve death. And I deserved it's bloom ;) Besides, I could have given it Mom after it bloomed :p Carolyn...See MoreWhat perennials do you wish you had never planted?
Comments (25)My NEVER AGAIN list includes: adenophora, snow on the mountain, lamb's ears, japanese artimesia. I think the "cherry bells" are pretty, but they came up everywhere so I yanked them! I actually have had no trouble with a lot of the plants you all have chosen here. No prob with daisies, mock orange, astrantia, bee balm, astilbe, etc. Have had absolutely NO luck with foxgloves, coreopsis "early sunrise" and "limerock ruby", or gaillardia "burgundy". My oriental poppies do well, but I, too am thinking they are not worth the trouble. I pulled my lady's mantle this year, with limited garden space I prefer "showier" plants. Some of you got my "Always Afternoon" daylilies because they were an off color in my soil, I am also pulling my "black eyed stella", and possibly a couple more, same reason as lady's mantle. There are others I have difficulty growing, but this is all I can think of off the top of my head. Linda...See MoreWhat do you wish you had done differently? [Part 2]
Comments (25)hmmm, let's see - so far I would change: - the hybrid radiant/induction cooktop to full induction. There really is a difference. I'm afraid I'm going to weare out the induction part since I try so hard to use them over the radiant ones. - the kitchen layout. It wasn't until AFTER the granite was in, did I realize that it would not have been that difficult. - kept the sink order with Galaxy to get the sink I wanted. I was done to the midnight hour and would have had to pay an extra $90 for overnight shipping. I used the sink that my fabricator found - builder grade. It's OK, but it scratches a lot. It replaced a then top-of-the-line Elkay that didn't scratch nearly uas much. I like what I have, but think the extra $$ would have been worth it. - planned!! I didn't plan on doing this - just replace one appliance. That turned into having to add this, that or the other as I moved along the way. - different faucet. I have Kohler (don't remember model), and don't like it at all. It's too expensive to just switch out, but if I can find a taker, I'll make the change. All-in-all, I'm very happy/satisfied. I ended up with some very good new toys, but I just know if I had planned, I would have done some things very differently....See MoreWhat do you wish you had NEVER planted? & Which plants do you love?
Comments (53)PK, I pulled it up as soon as I saw the first leaves emerge. When I pull up an invasive, I don't merely tug and yank, I get my hand weeder (or shovel) and go down deep to get the roots. Merely pulling the plant up usually leaves too much root behind. Even in places where I could not get rid of every bit of root, I just made sure that I cut off every leaf that sprouted, which insured the death of the plant trying to emerge. Diligently removing emerging foliage on pesky invasives (such as alstromeria) worked well for me because the little brittle roots were impossible to dig up. Molly...See Moregorilla_x
