You are so lucky. It will be like Christmas for you! Hopefully it will all be fabric that you can use. If I were you I'd be there at 6 am just to be on the safe side....lol.

I had the same good fortune through Freecycle. The gal posted that she had lots of fabric that belonged to her MIL. I was able to meet her about an hour after we talked on the phone & set up a meeting site.....just about broke the speed limit getting there! It was 6 fairly large boxes.

I talked with her again & she has more fabric for me so I will be picking that up plus the 6 drawer dresser she is storing it in. I feel so lucky!

I've heard of freecycle -- I may have to check it out! When we want to get rid of things we usually end up giving them away. Too much hassel to try to sell them, IMO. The Freecycle could be a good thing.

Let us know how your new stash is when you get it!

I love FreeCycle!

I've decluttered a lot of useful but unwanted items by posting there...and I scored a 1954 Pfaff 130 sewing machine, with all accessories, and its walnut 4-drawer cabinet to boot.

Next week a lady is giving me a complete 10-gallon aquarium set up, with all accessories, and even the algae is free! LOL

Here's the machine and cabinet before having it refurbished. The furniture guy did a great job...it looks new. All dings and chips are gone.

Gill and Speckles are excited about getting a new home!

I'll swear those fish are posing for the camera! LOL

Of course they are! LOL

My animals learn quickly to "smile for the camera" since it's stuck in their face on a nearly daily basis.

I now have a third goldfish, Spot, but he's not has his portrait made. I'll have to get on that project!

Thank you for posting about Freecycle. I could not wait to go to that site and join. I have some things I, too, would like to find...and I also have some things to give away. It looks like a great place for those of us who hate to throw anything away,

I was a member of freecycle for awhile. Got rid of a bunch of stuff, but was never lucky enough to be a recipiant of anything. I just about had to sit on the computer waiting for an item to be posted to be the first one in line to get it, and it seemed like the same few folks claimed everything.

Freecycle.org is a wonderful resourse, and keeps so much out of our landfills. Selling used items is often difficult, time-consuming, and not worth the trouble. And the charitable organizations I've offered furniture to-- they won't accept it unless in perfect condition and they can sell it for profit. But there are so many people out there who really have needs, and appreciate the freecycle items. Of course, there are the unscrupulous, and you do have to be careful, as always with strangers. When I offer items, I never take the first request, but always wait a day or two for someone who really shows a need. I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with freecycle.

Colleen, you can "ask" for fabric instead of waiting for it to be listed. FreeCycle is a place to list both things you want to pass on, and things you'd like to have. It doesn't guarantee you'll get them; but you can always ask. (I told DH I'm going to post "Wanted...Round trip tickets to London." He gave me the blank "I married her?" stare! LOL I get those a lot.)

Perhaps someone has an unwanted "stash" but just hasn't thought "Put it on FreeCycle."

That's how I got my 10-gallon fish tank. My three finned-friends are living in a 3-gallon Eclipse tank. Even with the filters and pumps, I have to change out water every two weeks to keep them sparkly clear and fresh; goldfish are rather messy. Anyway, I just knew there would be someone with an unwanted tank. The day after I posted as "looking for a 10-20 gallon fish tank" I had a response from a new mother that no longer had neither the time nor inclination to keep fish. We were both happy with the situation. I still want a 20-gallon set up; when I do get one I'll offer the 10-gallon set up back to FreeCycle.

I never hesitate to ask for anything I'm thinking I could use. Also, I've given away some really good stuff...a 30x65-inch 1/2 plate glass mirror, fender flares for an F-250, two large bags of needlework, cross stitch, and scrapbooking supplies (separated out into complete kits or projects), an old Dell 19" flat panel monitor, two PDAs that were fixable (and the man has offered one back to me once he finished repairing them!) and several perfectly good cat kennels/carriers that people tossed in the trash when they moved off base. I don't have cats, but for people that do they can be invaluable for vet visits and car trips.

I posted a loveseat and an Ethan Allen recliner on Freecycle. Two people looked at the loveseat and declined to take it and another person refused the recliner after looking at it. So they ended up in the landfill after all.

I've had people on Freecycle take away a lot of old stuff--a greatly outdated encyclopedia set, a computer monitor, an exercise bike, radio/CD player/tape recorder, and even a scanner with a broken lid and a broken printer. They were almost all very nice. The gentleman who took that last one said he was in a class where they learned to repair computers and their peripherals, so it was perfect for him.

The exercise bike, while several years old, had been very little used, so I put it on Craig's List first, asking for a modest payment, but all I got was a couple of crank emails. One said a man wanted it and to call him, and when I did, he said, "Can you hold a minute? I have to get off my exercise bike," and then never came back. I thought his response strange, but never expected it to be a joke. That kind of turned me off on Craig's List, though I'm sure people do sell things there and get a good customer and a fair price.

In the case of San Diego Freecycle, only one person gave me trouble, and that was a lady who expressed a great desire for my coffee table, then had to put off picking it up for some plausible reason, but didn't come, then set another date and begged off because her little boy had an earache. In the end, she was a no-show, so I put the table out the night before rubbish day with a big sign on it saying, "FREE," and it was gone within an hour!

Nice find! I've heard people talk about Free Cycle. I just went to yahoo and they have one in my area. Guess I need to check it out!
