Retired and loving it in up north MIchigan!
Kathy G in MI

Retired RN.....who loves being able to read as late as I want and sleep in as late as I want. I have been retired for ten or eleven years and I am glad I didn't keep my license active. I would hate to have to go to work now.....I never get bored.

Office manager...but I don't manage anything
Background checker...for the newbies we hire
Depositer...I do the daily bank deposit
Trainer...I train the office newbies (they never retain)
Email checker...I check the company emails and answer them (don't tell anyone, but I don't sign my name...I sign them "sales team", so I don't get all the calls).
Event planner...helping people plan weddings, parties, etc.

I guess basically, it is JOAT. Jack Of All Trades

Hey You....

Marketing communications manager

after a year of being basically unemployed I am working PT as a receptionist for a Medical Massage Therapist. I need to get my license updated to that, he makes a decent living!

I was bored while at home, all that time an no money to do anything with.

Officially they call me an Administrative assistant but I assist with whatever needs doing for a Janitorial Supply Company. If someone calls and asks for the order desk, I'm your girl. If they come in and want to buy something I go back to the warehouse and get it or I can sell you a carpet extractor or a case of Toilet Paper. If a sales rep needs a quote typed up, I do that too. I answer phones, type quotes, run reports, design catalogues and flyers, do customer service, help with shipping sometimes, answer email and run for coffees and lunch too!
I would love to be retired but it's not going to happen for awhile so in the mean time this job is OK.

Administrative Assistant to the Director of District Administration, Confidential Office Staff, Senior Typist Confidential. I'm a secretary.

I am the wife, with all that entails as well.

Moni

High School Special Education Teacher

(I team teach Geometry and Algebra 1. I teach self-contained Personal Finance, Developmental Reading, and Career Pathways).

Controller (Comptroller) and wish I were Kathi.

I'm a Casemanager for social assistance.

Retiree!

Depends on what I am doing.....at the agency it is officially President but it is really "whatever needs done that no one else will do".

And after hours when at my other job....Personal Assistant.

Retired for nearly ten years, and never bored. Too many good books waiting to be read, gardening to be done, quilt tops to make, etc. Doesn't sound too exciting, but I love it, although I loved my job as high school secretary for 31 years, too.

I work for an Attorney/CPA/Mortgage Broker/Real Estate Agent/1031 Qualified Intermediary. There are 4 gals (including me) working for him. Each of us "specializes" in one of those areas. But when I started working for him there were only 2 of us, so I know a "little" bit about all those areas. None of us have official titles, so it has become a game with us. Because I have seniority (which means nothing) they consider me the office manager. But when the boss is gone (and his goal is to be gone more than he is present - eventually) and something requires an officer's signature my title becomes "Assistant Vice President", which also really means nothing. Ordinarily, since I work mostly with the legal aspect of the business I am considered an administrative assistant. But most of the time I say that I am Scott's "puppy", LOL. He calls, and there I am.

retired! It's the best job I've ever had but the pay does stink.

I am the Land Law Examiner for the Department of Interior.

staff RN

Retired in Spring of 2007 but was Secretary, Bookkeeper and/or Payroll Clerk for a school district.

Grandma!!!! The best job ever!!!

Temporarily Disabled. I don't know what I'll be going back to when (and if) I go back. I was a Customer Service Associate, but that could all change. I may have to go back as a cashier.

Slave comes to mind..hehe.
I am a Property Manager, better known as a Landlady. Got to thinking about it yesterday while I was cleaning a suite - it's kind of an assembly line -
bring 'em in, collect their money, ship 'em out ( for whatever reason), clean up their mess, bring 'em in...start all over again.
I don't hate my job, it pays quite well, I am about to buy a new to me, much newer vehicle than I now drive, I don't have big debts, the down side is I don't have a lot of free time to go out and meet people and you can't befriend your tenants to any great extent. It can be a lonely line of work.
If I could have any job, I would take Donna's - always wanted to have my own thrift shop. Maybe one day...

LOL at Marilyn and Lori...........
I am Supervisor of Public Relations....fancy name for
General Flunky!!! I do love my job however...never a dull moment and NEVER boring!!

I wish I was retired! lol but for now it's Legal Assistant/Paralegal

It's supposed to be Administrative Assistant, but really I'm just a glorified Receptionist/Secretary (do they have those any more???) who does a little bit of everything - accounting, lots of typing, opening mail, greeting guests (not that many) & answering a small switchboard. It's an easy job, really, but I'm ready to retire sometime in the near future.

Even though I'm retired....

We still have unsettled cases on Legal Files. We both still communicate with our Clients. Main Man is the Lawyer.

I guess I'm still his Legal Assistant. Mostly taking messages and faxing. I do have to drive to Houston to file cases.

Gayle

Lately it seems to be whipping boy.

I am accounts receivable, payroll and if anything is not working girl. I just call it the office b!tch.

Case Manager

Since a homemaker really doesn't get to retire--------

When DH retired, my responsibilities have been reduced!

IT Supervisor for Sales and Distribution

Formatrice en anglais which roughly translated is an english as a second language teacher :)

Karen

old lady

Before I retired, I had a job title I thought was too over the top. I was a "Technical Expert." I am not and never was an "expert".

I used to be a Public Affairs, Community Relations Technician

Then I was a Sheriff's Services Technician. Then I was a Security Manager

Now, I'm an indentured servant. This is the worst job. PA was the best.

My title is a Director. But I'm hoping I'll be in the "Retired" bunch maybe the end of next year. I love Donna's description! LOL

Those of you who say you are bored being retired really scare me. I hope that isn't what happens to me.

Retired bank officer. YAY!

a Business Planning Manager for a Fortune 200 company who would love to be retired!

I was so tempted to put "Lackey" for occupation on tax forms. My boss had cards printed for me with lackey as my title.

Staff Assistant.

Event Planner. I don't plan events! Actually, I don't work on the event until they are over. Don't know how I landed that title.

Linda

The Chief Information Officer and the Office Chief have "titles." The rest of us just use our civil service classification. Mine is Staff Information Systems Analyst.

Retired (more or less).

How anyone can be bored in retirement is beyond me ... with all of that interesting stuff to do and things to learn, people to meet, charities to help with their program, Meals on Wheels to run, chatting with lonely people living alone, books to read, political leaders under whom to light fires, kids to befriend, people at the Kitchen Table to bug, investment clubs to attend, shopping to do for seniors/disabled, books to read, charities to support, cars to oversee getting fixed (and hitch-hiking home while they're being worked on), friends' dogs to care for when they're away, cupboards in garbage along the street to cadge for landlord's shop (with which he is well pleased), old farts' gathering at church to drink coffee (I got a good welcome today, after having been absent for a few weeks ... it was warm enough to hitch-hike), preparing low-income folks' tax returns, plus showing people how to pay less income tax, hauling water for your house cause the well's too close to the barnyard, cooking and housekeeping (once a week or so), darning a sock or two, occasionally ....

whidbeykathy,

Wold you prefer, " ... one of the wives"?

Buying lottery tickets may be fun for a moment or two ...

... but (almost always) it's sort of like throwing one's valuable money down a rathole.

If one invests $10.00 now, at 10% (really 4%, after deducting for tax ... and inflation) it'll become $48. after 40 years, $105. after 60 years. Should one choose to invest $10. weekly, same parameters, it'd grow to $49,413. after 40 years if invested in Dec., $51,389. if invested in Jan; after 60 years, $123,755 if in Dec., $128,705 if in Jan.

Hasn't "typing" been upgradedd to "keyboarding" (unless one's a piano teacher).

SuzyQ,

It's ... "FREEDOM" ... glorious freedom!

With lots of apples ... just waiting to be picked off of the tree.

For folks who can see apples.

But really boring for quite a number of people who haven't been putting more strings on their violin through the middle years of life ... and now can find nothing to do!

And don't seem able to find some interesting, challenging, satisfying things to keep them so busy that they don't have time to look at their watch!

It sure makes life a lot easier if one can hop out of bed in the morning with alacrity, hardly able to wait to get at the things to do that day, for they love their job.

Enjoy your lovely spring weekend.

ole joyful

P.S. Many retired people who feel that they'd like to pay less income tax should get a home-based business going ... gives one some beautiful tax deductions ...

... but make sure to document every deduction claimed, and be able to justify it, in case of audit, which happens more regularly than average.
