I don't have a job............

But when I worked retail (drug store), your story was the story of my life. Only we had these people in our faces. It's part of the reason why I don't want to work retail again.

I do get those experiences in person too, but I end those interviews REAL FAST. I've had some crummy things happen.

In retail, though, it must be really frustrating, Debby. Do you have to wait for a supervisor to intervene?

Not understanding this new (for me) software I'm supposed to be creating reports with. Actually the software isn't so bad, but the way the developers created the table I'm trying to pull data from is confusing to me .. not user friendly at all.

Flying for 2 days and not seeing the sun at all. Being in total darkness really affects my moods. I fly to London in the dark, arrive in the dark and leave and arrive the second day in the dark.

The paycheck. Just got paid today and I had 23 hours of ovetime this pay period. Sad thing is it was almost to the penny what I used to make without any OT :(

Talking on the phone and trying so hard to understand people who do not speak english well at all. Very frustrating I am sure for them as well, and oh yes, a miserable crank , for a boss. Other than that ...life is so good.

I was credit manager and catalog manager(in the store at big mall) for a national department store.

Nasty customers! I was called every dirty name in the book, had credit cards, pens, pencils, and staplers thrown at my face. Didn't take long for me to put all the normal counter things (staplers, hole punches etc. down UNDER the countertop! LOL) And Women were the worst. IT was a time when the customer was always right! HaHA! lol All I wanted to say was, "Listen lady, it's not MY fault you haven't paid your bill in 12 months! LOL But all I could do was smile and try to explain and explain. Smiling was really kind of fun, in a passive agressive way.. the more I smiled the more they hated me! lol glad those days are gone!

My boss is a real witch sometimes. Good thing I'm self-employed, or I'd quit.
Seriously, we had to stop giving me a salary in order to keep paying my insurance premium. Not many people are in a buying mood, so business is really down.

I spent all of December working overtime to train a new person who turned around today and complained to my boss about me! I even had to work late on Christmas Eve because I couldn't get any of my work done until all her's was done because she was so sloooow in learning, and she had a crying melt-down because she was working on Christmas Eve! Wow, it really hurts when you feel like you have been nurturing someone and doing your best to help her and she complained that I was condesending and never tell her she's doing anything right! Sheesh! She never thanked me for all the time I've put in helping her. When I started with this job I had exactly two days of training. I had to teach myself! I spent four weeks with her! It just makes me feel like maybe something is wrong with me. How could someone be so far off base--so maybe it's me? It doesn't make sense!

Thanks for giving me a place to vent! Whew!

im not working right now laid off in a manner of speaking lol family business and all..hardest part in winter is wearing those darned stiff as all ##$$ carharts with 9 million pounds of clothes on plowing through the snow with cable and harps and slides that weigh more than i do!! lol im on my butt more than im standing up!! *sigh* wish i was doing that now. oh the other hardest part..my brother and father going at it all the time some days are better than others...oh well thats family for ya but one of these days........think lil sister in her all out best Po ed mood lol thats all i can do is laugh! so i feel for all of you too.

When I was working the worst part was working 29 days on and 1 day off year after year after year and having to work 12 or 16 hours on many of those days. To be fair to my company, I did get paid overtime so the money was good, but so much of that money was spent for convenience foods or eating out and/or hiring someone to do some of the chores that I would have done myself if I had the time to do them.
I like retirement much better.

I used to work as a Physical Therapist Asst.- must say that I loved it. The worse part was when someone was in severe pain, looking for you to fix it, and you couldn't. If you didn't get rid of their pain, they blamed you when all you did was carry out MD's orders. Sometimes, you knew the treatment was not the proper one but you couldn't do anything about it because MD's can be so full of themselves.

As an Asst. School Teacher now- I also enjoy the children. Besides getting sneezed and coughed on (this is tolerable), it's usually the parents that are the problem.

once in a great while i have to deal w/ a nasty customer but that's rare because i am a control freak & proactive w/ customer service. probably the worst aspect of my job involves the lack of communication in the 4 owners and their children that are our co-workers. we are in the middle of a huge transition and everyday some problem comes up that sets us back and the kids in charge could care less... i did this job from 2000-2006, then left them on the cusp of busy spring when they gave my position to one of the kids and moved me to a different job. he failed miserably and the owners spent a yr begging me back :-) during that time 2 kids tried and failed at my job and now no one wants it and everyone knows i do it best! i only occassionally need to remind myself i'm employed and well paid lol and i'm always working on what i'll do for my next job to CMA :-)~ liz

I work with people who are on parole from prison. You'd think that would be the worst part but truly it is the families of the people who are on parole. I expect a few "bad apples" from those getting out of prison, I don't expect it from the family or I should say I didn't expect it when I started this job but I have learned.

I sure do understand getting screamed at. Happened to me today, on the phone from a patient's family member. He was ticked off by something the doctors decided to do yesterday. Not my fault but I got to listen to it. Happens all the time.

Another thing I really hate is getting back talk when I ask someone to do their job. If you're too busy say so, I don't need to listen to your mouth.

I can deal with the high turnover of patients, being so busy you don't get to eat till late in the afternoon, etc... but the back talk is the worst part of my job. I hate getting mouthed off to when I haven't sat down except to do my job and you've had your uptenth break and been standing in the hall chit chatting all day. Then you expect me to do your job. I give them one or two chances and then I write them up. It gets old.

The worst part of my job is working for a large corporation in a job that is very personal.
There is no compensation for a job well done. There is no overtime AT ALL. They cut hours. I get no sick leave or vacation time until I've been there a year....it's been almost 7 months, but I don't know if I can hang in there that long. They keep adding more and more to the job, but no increase in pay. I LOVE working with the babies, but hate it when I have 7 one year olds to deal with all day on my own. Not fair to the babies for sure and it's pissing me off.

I don't have a job....I do volunteer work as a wildlife rehabber. The worst part of my "job" is seeing the cruel things that people do to helpless animals and when I go to the shelter to pick up possums, seeing the beautiful dogs and cats that have been thrown away and will never be adopted.

Changing poopie diapers pretty much every hour...wiping runny noses every 2 mintues! My job does have more good times than bad though. I love kids....just hate what comes out of them! :O)

Before I retired, the worst part of my job was the traffic commute and worry if my job would last long enough to my retirement.

During any election I have worked I can't believe the childish behaviour of some of the people that want jobs on election day. I am offering them a job that they applied for then they demand who they want to sit with, where they want to be, cancel their classes and expect to be rescheduled, scream at me when they don't get what they want, complain to the political parties about not getting what they want, and don't follow the rules and then expect to be hired the next election. If I wanted a job, even if for one day I would never act the way they do to the person who is hiring them. Most of these complainers are adults over 60 years old or people on government assistance. They should appreciate that they are being given a job that pays good money for really not doing anything but sitting on their behinds until the end of the day. Some even expect me to have coffee waiting for them at the polls. LOL

During the election this woman kept calling and wanting to know why she wasn't being called to work the election because she said she was one of the first people to put in her name into our office which was true. I wasn't taking calls at my desk at that time and she was told that she would eventually get called. She kept on calling and calling and driving our receptionist crazy. I had a procedure to follow, I have so many days that I am required to hire from the list of names the political parties submit. That is the law. After a certain date I am allowed to hire call ins and walk ins. This last election the parties submitted more names than ever and most of the positions were filled. When I finally called this lady to give her a job she screamed at me that I had a nerve to call her now. I told her I was offering her the job she wanted and that did it. I just held the phone away from my ear and she screamed for a good 5 minutes. My boss was standing next to me and was incredulous. I just let her scream and when she was finished I said "do you want the job or not" That po'd her even more because she couldn't say I didn't offer her the job. LOL

This was the first election for our returning officer and he was really surprised by the behaviour of the people we were trying to hire. The attitude stinks as does their sense of entitlement.

I had a female boss once who was going through menopause. She became a screaming banshee. LOL I remember she couldn't find a file on a co-workers desk she went crazy and flipped over the desk then walked out of the room.

Being self-employed and working from home is the best job in the world, but I have a few minor annoyances.

(1) Silly interruptions (DH pushed something on the TV remote and doesn't know how to get back to the channel he was watching. *sigh*)

(2) People who think "working from home" means not working.

(3) Writing a big fat check to the IRS every quarter. (This one is a mixed blessing...I only have to pay because I make money!)

(4) "Feast or famine" cycles. I am either loaded to the gills with work or there is little to do. (Well, I haven't had the latter problem in a loooong time!)

These all sound so silly. I guess I really don't have any complaints! :-)

The fact that you literally could be a demented serial killer and the company is still too afraid to fire a person.

This guy we have been saddled with for 2 years is so bad. There have been SO many things that in the early 90's he woulda been escorted out the door.

But nowadays? NOPE! I swear, he came to work drunk Wednesday. I reported him to 2 managers. A third manager also smelled it when she rode in elevator with him.

What did he get? A chat with HR is all.

(and this guy just came off a long performance plan because his performance has been so bad).

Right now it's the hour drive but DH and I plan to move closer to my job as soon as we can sell our house.

Clients, adjusters, health care providers, MEDICARE, MEDICARE, MEDICARE, (did I mention Medicare?), generally just people in general. LOL
Clients that wander in whenever they feel like it without an appointment. I heated up some beans and cornbread for lunch at noon yesterday. Client wanders in (he does this almost daily), sees he's interrupting my lunch, and proceeds to stand at my desk rambling on and on about his property damage claim. We don't even *do* the property damage portion of the claims. Clients deal with those themselves.
Ages ago, we had two girls manning the front office downstairs and I hid in my office upstairs, where I could do my job without having to interact with the phones or clients, too much. I miss my little "happy place". LOL

I'm sorry, Susan. Those events are upsetting.

I work part-time, so I only get tired of my job occasionally. Getting up and getting dressed
could be the hardest part. Also the repetitiveness
of some things I have to do over and over and over...

Gosh, I feel like I'm not holding my end up this time. Although I've had good & bad jobs with this company over the million years I've been here, this one's been the best. Here's why: we are almost totally self reliant, meaning we get to decide for the most part which jobs are a priority and which can wait a bit. Only one fuction do we sometimes have to 'farm out' to another entity to complete our work and that comes into play maybe 50% of the time. All of us are consientious; if someone calls in sick the three others look in the database to see if any work is assigned to that person, asigns it to themself and does it - without being told. It's a 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours' system based on mutual respect that works well. Really, the only bad part is that 5:35 AM alarm clock 5 mornings a week.

I feel like pinching myself.

Am retired now, but when I was teaching it was the fact that I traveled to four schools, usually two each day. My car was always PILED and I was having to FLY across town to make it on time for my next class. I still have nightmares about classes of kids just creating havoc while I'm stuck in traffic somewhere.

Also - the fact that I had four prinicpals and most of them considered that they were my only boss. They forget you for the good stuff and somehow always remember to get your name on that duty schedule! LOL

When I worked for 20 years cutting hair I totally loved it.....have to say I never incountered anyone who was ugly or mean to me...that said....poor Sydney....working in the video store she comes home with horror stories....one just last week with a rude customer and I have to say though that she was blessed with a great customer behind the rude one who told her that she did a great job and not to let someone like that ruin her day or make her think she was in the wrong.....LOL great training though for a 17 yr old...Stacy

For me, it is the isolation. You know, housewife, stay at home mom before that... and no coworkers around to have a coffee break with, or a chat.

I work as a Principal's Secretary in an elementary school. 95% of our problems are caused by 5% of the parents. Really.

I am hesitant to post- while I do have to deal with the nasty customer once in a while, the worst part of my job is just winter time. The roses are all dormant and there is just nothing to really do outside. Paper work and inside stuff gets to me after a bit. I much prefer spring time and working with the plants again!

Before I retired a couple of years ago, it was the "total responsibility, no authority" that bothered me. And the fact that the owner's wife (who had no idea what I did or how) kept trying to "help." Endless mixups, errors, and things that had to be undone and re-done. And the "imminent crash, fasten seat belts" mentality was wearing. Somehow we got it all done. Many evenings I just wanted to go away somewhere! I miss the people, but don't miss the job even one bit. And I did it for 20 years!
