need computer help....suggestions

Grrrr! I have MSN dot com as my home page and it hasn't opened all day today and yesterday. Is it on their end?

Also, I uninstalled Incredimail today because no one I know uses it anymore and it takes up a lot of space. Outlook Express is on my Windows XP and it's okay, but I wonder if there's something better that I could use...and not have all the stuff that Incredimail has with all its offers. (Incredimail completely disappeared on me last week and I finally did an update install and it started working again.)

What do you have for your email provider? Did it come with your computer or did you download a different one?

Oh, and since yesterday, I have some search thing called Viewpoint that shows on top of the page. I don't want this either, but what do I do?

Facebook,has been a real PITA since Friday @10 p.m......now,it wont even load the sign-in page here

I am on Cogeco cable & use Firefox/Mozilla as my main browser.
I am on win XP.....somthe problem isnt you...most likely one of the confiker gremlins got something out there in cyber land

Got a teenager around? That is what I always do. LOL. They know way more than I ever can figure out with computers.

Amanda, I think the heart pine will give you enough contrast with your other woods that it would be fine for the floor, if you want a wood floor, and it'll certainly go with the Colonial house. If you want tile, which will be colder, though very easy to care for, consider 1'x2' French pavers. They're a light terra cotta, and very traditional in kitchens. The antique ones are very expensive, but there are new ones of the type being made now. For authentic Colonial, I think a gray slate kind of look would be more on point, but it would make your kitchen look dreary, whereas the light clay look of the French pavers would be cheery and should go with your big brick hulk. :) Even though you've spec'd a lot of wood, with the painted section, and the windows, and the brick fire surround, and the flow into the dining room, I think you have enough relief that you can go a bit wild in the kitchen with the woods and get away with it. Especially with all the different kinds and colors you've chosen, which provide you with contrast and interest. You have the whole warm side of the color wheel (i.e., analogous colors) -- to throw some logic at you. :) Floor: yellow-brown (I'd go natural on them. They'll age to a really nice honey color.) Cabinets: red-brown Island top: dark red-brown Beams: charcoal-brown Hood: orange-brown For hue and brightness contrast you have the silver-gray stainless counters and the white cabinets. You can do window treatments whose main job is to bling up your black hole windows at night. There are slat blinds that have art painted on them, for instance. You could do a lacy shade. Or something baroque and flocked. Shades are pretty inexpensive, and can be changed out when you get tired of them. And they don't get into the soup, and hide pretty well when they're up. You can even do clear vinyl and let your kids paint on them for each season, then wash them off and start over. One of the great things about all of your colorblocking is that you don't really need a lot of bling to make the kitchen lively. Add in the detritus of family life and you're there. Plus, you also have hardware (i.e., jewelry) to choose. You can go simple and demure, in a silvery color to go with the stainless counters, but you could do art glass or wild granite knobs, colored resin bar pulls, Anne At Home theme hardware, or whatever suits your fancy. Some hardware looks dumb in some settings, but I think your kitchen can take a lot of interest without feeling overdone. I mean, how much bling do you want?

By my suggestions I'm not purporting to have worked out all the issues. I'm just suggesting some changes -- as an example -- that I think would make it a more organized and easier to "read" landscape. Probably the main thing I'd do is massage the circle drive to being more in front of the house, which would make it look like it is the main entrance point/path for the house. I think its position relative to the house is more important than it being a perfect "D"-shape. Even if planted plainly, which I don't think is the intention, the bed lines going to look distracting. Smoother bed lines would be easier to view and easier to maintain. You could still fill the beds themselves with all kinds of plant excitement ... even busying it up if that's what you like, but it would still look more civilized if the bed lines are clean and simple. The same principle applies for walks. They will seem less distracting to the overall flow if they are simple of curve. Again, I'm just trying to give you an example. You could evolve the plan many times over according to your latest thoughts and parameters. It's an ambitious plan. Good luck on implementing it as it would be an awesome transformation.

So pretty! Is the roof the gray color it appears to be on my screen? If so, would you go for a light gray siding and white trim? This is a totally different style home but I like the colors they chose. It would leave a lot of options for a front door color. A slate blue would be nice.

I love researching so I made Google my home page, it has never fail to come on. I don't like to look at a cluttered screen and Google is free of "stuff".

I don't actually have a home page. I keep a lot of shortcuts on my desktop, and go wherever I want to from the icon.

I know most people want the desktop to be uncluttered, but I like it this way.

I use Firefox for browsing and Thunderbird for email.

I like things to be nice and simple.

You can set your home page to any page you want.
I use Google. http://www.google.com
It's simple. It loads fast. And probably where I'm going anyway.

I hate-hate-hate-hate-hate incredimail. I hate getting email
from someone that uses incredimail. Waste of bandwidth.

I use outlook express. My ISP handles some of my email.
I use gmail for most of my email. I have a couple of others.
Outlook express may be deemed the worse possible choice,
but I am comfortable with it. I like the layout and I'm used to it.

My computer desktop is almost as cluttered as my actual desktop.
If you could pile icons on top of each other it would be
cluttered as much as my work space. Everything on my desks is
piled chronologically. The newest stuff is on top.

You are not limited to just one internet browser. I use 3.
Internet explorer, opera, and firefox. Depending on where I am going.
I use opera for garden web cause my favorites page works best in it.
I use firefox for just about everything else.
I use internet explorer for some particular needs.

You just need to find what works best for you.

And did I mention I HATE incredimail?

And I hate Outlook. Never works for me. I use Verizon Fios and ATT for email, Yahoo is my home page. Always opens okay.

I have msn as my home page and it opened all day yesterday ( Sun.) without any problems. Use hotmail and outlook express with no problem. Maybe when you uninstalled incredimail it did something.

Try Mozilla's Thunderbird or AOL.
Stay away from Outlook.

Are you able to get into your msn yet? There saying some emails are going out asking you to update your msn and then it's being hijacked and your password has been changed. Might check it out.

Poohbear, I am with you regarding outlook express. I use it no matter which server I am using. I don't clutter my desktop though, I have to many pretty wallpapers and a lots of travel photos I like to see on my desktop.I even changed my 3 icons, my computer, my documents and recycle to neat pics.

I use Yahoo as my primary email. I like Yahoo, I get little spam, 1 or 2 per week, and nothing sexual or x-rated, like my Rogers (cable provider) account was full of. I should have the longest penis in history, according to all the spam I would get, even though I am female.

Firefox, Opera and IE are my browsers.

I would like to know, if it's my computer or if others are having trouble with sites freezing (not responding) and just being slow?
If my computer is on for any length of time, this happens.

I use Yahoo also, I don't ever use Outlook, Gmail is ok, and you can get some neat stuff at Care2.com if you use it for your email. I never have liked MSN. I use yahoo as my home page.

You do not have to use an email that you need to down load anything to use it, unless you prefer to do so due to the other added features offered. You can get web based email for free. Some are simple to use and some have more features than the typical user needs.

Actually it is just a plain HTML page that I created
and placed on my website. Then I just set it up as
my home page in Opera. I use Opera for that page since
it is the only browser that the page consistantly works in.

Did I mention that I HATE incredimail?

For most of my email I use Yahoo and PopPeeper to check it. Most of my email is sent through PopPeeper too. Fast, simple and effective.

Browsers I use are Opera for most things, Kmeleon for most of the rest, occasionally Firefox and the Internet Elephant gets used begrudgingly a couple times a year.

I have a "home page" that I keep on my computer. Over the years I've added and revised it and it's ballooned tremendously. I don't use bookmarks. I keep the links on this page for the most part, then it's accessible in any browser. I also have a view of gas prices, weather info some webcams and it's doctored up with clipart too. Works well for me.

pooh bear...I like your Opera page, too. But I don't understand computer language...like having 3 browsers...ISP...creating HTML page
patches & jasdip...MSN is still slow or doesn't open at all and yes, I'm having problems with sites freezing. I have to turn off and restart.

I've used Yahoo as home page for years, and have several email addresses there.

Started a gmail email address a while ago ... which was supposed to be pretty well for family and clear of stuff ... then son's friend invited me to share with folks on some site ... and now I have 50 spam messages there ... some want to kiss me, etc.

My ISP offers an email address, as well - which I hardly ever use.

Son used to use Firefox, liked it - I don't know whether he does now.

e.g Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail (Google). These are terrific cause you can access your email from virtually any computer, anywhere, by going to the website.

ISP is your internet company. e.g. Rogers, Sympatico, Cogeco, Shaw Cable (I'm Canadian, and these are our internet providers) Instead of using bebrave at rogers.com (hey, I just came up with a new email addy!), and using the one that is provided with your internet provider; you go to the website of Hotmail.com and use bebrav at hotmail.com as an example.

Computers automatically use Internet Explorer, made by Microsoft) (the little blue e) as their internet browser. We cruise the website using the "e". There are other choices. IE is often hit by hackers as Microsoft is so popular.

Firefox and Opera are other options. They work the same....their little logos are on the desktop that you click on to go to your favourite website, just like you do now by clicking on the blue e's.

Does this all make sense?

I don't have a home page...when I open my browser, it's blank.

This is how you do it:
in your browser, go to where you specify your home page. There is a choice given as "Blank"...select it.

IE - Tools, Blank
Firefox - Tools, select "Open with a blank page"
Opera - Tools, Preferences, Startup - select "Start with a blank page"

Now, your browser will open much faster.

No, they don't.
Only computers running the Microsoft Windows OS have IE installed - it's a part of the operating system.
MACS run their own OS, and many people also have alternatives to MS Windows, such as Linux and Unix - none of which have MS's IE built in.

IF you are running Microsoft windows on your computer, IE is pre-set to be your default browser. That default is an option that is easily selected under "Tools".

If you install another, additional browser, you can set the new browser to be your default, or not make any browser a default.

The default browser is only used when you click on a link to a website. If you don't have a default browser set, you will be asked which browser you want to use when you click on the link.

Oh, and by the way,
I HATE INCREDIMAIL

A close second is AOL users who forward cute emails to me.
They forward as an attachment. MAKE A NEW EMAIL PEOPLE.
I don't want an email with another email attached that
contains an email with the actual content attached.
I block people who send email like that. Please don't do it.

And I HATE INCREDIMAIL.

I was talking about pcs with windows installed. I was trying to make things as easy to understand as I could for frazoo, and automatically assumed she has a pc with windows installed, so she would link the "e" to my examples.

Sorry, I was gone for awhile and just got back to this.
You're right, Jasdip, I do have Windows XP and Internet Explorer with the little blue "e". I've also installed Mozilla/Firefox and it opens much faster than IE with my MSN home page. (Is it that new virus that is causing the page to not load or time out or take forever to load?) Glad to have Firefox for sure. Thanks for that!

And, I'm sorry to say, Poohbear, but I'm going back to Incredimail. It's so darn fogey friendly! I don't like Outlook Express and I tried Thunderbird yesterday and didn't like it. Actually, it's not me as much as my DH who doesn't like them. He's not a computer enthusiast and likes to learn something once and not have it changed later.

But, I don't use all the Incredimail stuff...no fancy stationary, no emoticons. And, when I receive an email that's been forwarded many times and I like it, I clean it up before I forward it. Sometimes I send it to myself and forward it from there. I wish I didn't have to have all of Incredimail gallery stuff, etc. I guess if you go Premium, you don't have to have all the ads. Oh, well, my DH is happy, I'm happy and now we have a happy home...LOL!!!

Leslie, after several moves, and changing providers, which meant, new email addresses... I started up a gmail account. Works great, once you get the hang of it.

I am happy with it. I like it better than yahoo, but still have and use a couple of yahoo addresses.
