Son got a new job. Did I tell you?

I know I asked for you all to cross your fingers. He had two interviews the same day, one in Seattle and one in Tacoma, for the same job opening for the state of Washington. He said that the Seattle interview was awful. lol They never looked him in the eye, had some kind of attitude against him and were quite rude. There were 6 people across the table from him and only one man asked the questions. The others just stared at their papers. He got to the Tacoma one an hour and a half early and just got more prepared. He called afterwards and said he aced it. I guess he did, because they called and offered him the job and offered him a permanent job right a way. Out of 40 that they interviewed, they hired 12 and only 4 or 6 got permanent jobs! Yea! A pay raise for DH too, we were paying cobra insurance for the kid at 500 bucks a month! He now has benefits. woohoo!

The personal training job that he was doing is one of the reasons that he did so well in the interviews. He isn't a big talker. He learned so much as a personal trainer. he had to sell products, memberships and training sessions with his self. So he had to sell himself!~ It was an awesome learning experience. I'm very proud of him. In this economy, it's taken him a long time after graduating, but he kept plugging away! yea! And thanks for crossing your fingers!

Hooray! Congratulations to Ry and parents. The personal training job was what he needed to build his self-confidence and prepare him for a great opportunity. Working for the state is great, and probably offers good job security and benefits.

I don't remember ever getting an actual spanking, I am sure when I was really young I did get them just don't recall it. I would get sent to the corner however. I had gone shopping with my mom and big sister in the BIG city (we were from a very small town), they were looking for a special dress for my sister for some event. Well I was so tired of being dragged around that I crawled up under one of the round dress displays (it had a floor to it) and just fell asleep. My mom finally noticed I was not right there and went into panic mode, they searched and then started hollering then the store workers got into the act. I never heard a thing I was so insulated in my little nap spot sleeping soundly. Someone finally saw my little shoe poking out from under the dresses. My mom was about to have a stroke by then. She screamed at me then nearly hugged the stuffing out of me. I tell you one thing I never did that again. Another time I got a talking to was when mom came out on to the front porch and looked at me and my dog and said what are you eating? Well it was a box of doggie treats, but I was sharing with my dog!! I thought they were regular cookies! My dog really loved my cookies LOL I thought they were a bit dry myself. Now this one not so much did I get in trouble as did my 2 much older sisters! Our house was just down the road from my grandparents so we would walk or ride bikes back and forth. There was a huge barn at my grandparents with a hay loft and a big opening on one end to load the hay in and out of with a rope dohickey out of it to raise and lower the hay. We did not know it but my mother could see that barn and opening through the kitchen window at the sink (at our house). One day my sisters decided we would go up to the loft and swing on the rope thing, which meant we were dangling in the air very high above the ground. Then they decided to make me do it! So of course I did. They lift me up and I grab on to the rope and the push me out of the hay loft, there I was dangling. Well at that very moment my mother was at the sink and looked out and all she saw was me(her baby) dangling out of the hayloft by a rope!! I do not know how she came across that field over the fences, I think maybe she flew... My sisters got the whipping of their lives and I got the stuffing squeezed out of me again! And of course told to never do that again no matter what my stupid sisters said.

Hey Joanna- Congrats on the new job! Brody's a cutie, he looks like your DH. I love the captions too! Naked Nap time! lol I can't believe he's 14+ pounds already! Katie is so little-I worry she's not gaining enough. Katie rolls over, but she spends a lot of time on her tummy, so she has a crazy strong neck. Olivia was about 4-5 months when she did it. Hope your job is great!! We still need to get together sometime!

Good for him! He worked on developing his 'people skills', and it's paid off. Any government job has both 'up' and 'down' sides. Regardless, it's going to be on his resume; he's been *employed*! Hooray!

It sounds to me as though the first job hire had already been decided and they were just 'going through the motions' to comply with hiring laws.

I'm so happy for you both, Kat! It does seem our world dings the shyer and quieter among us, doesn't it? I have two shy kids and the other one has a much easier time with job interviews, etc. Getting the first job under his belt gave Ryan a good stepping stone, along with the experience of dealing with people. If I have to interview for another job one day, I'm going to have a verrrrrry hard time. I'll bet the Seattle job was a foregone conclusion and that they already had someone else nearly hired (inside the company,) before Ryan even went into the room. Sounds like they were just going through the motions and that was maybe why they couldn't look him in the eye.

We had to pay dd's Cobra for a year (before the age limit was raised,) and that was also a lot of money--I feel your pain on that one.

congratulations to Ryan! and to you too cause I know how much this means. You know he can do it and now he has a chance .
My son is working a new job now too, while still going to college. We are happy for him AND US. We pretty much turned off the cash a while back and hired him to work for a check. That wasn't ideal at all. He needed to work for someone else!
Getting that right job isn't easy, I'm so happy Ryan got one!

lol..when we were there we always called it stinky tacoma cause of the paper mills...guess it isn't anymore...(way back in 1988)

Congrats to Ryan! Sure helped that he became better able to present himself and talents as a result of the earlier experience.

My early rememberance of Tacoma is having seen pictures of the bridge over the Narrows, that fell after fluttering in a high wind ... many years ago.
