I got a new job--first in 10 years!

I've been teaching high school special education for the last 10 years--which has been my whole career! I was offered a job as a consulting teacher for special education and I took it. I'll be working in my husband's building, but it's a further commute for me (DH works for the school system in IT). Unfortunately, in this time of financial strain and gas prices, we cannot commute together, as we work different hours and I need to get home to Brody. I think I'm really going to like this job. I will be helping special ed teachers do their jobs better. I am going to miss the kids terribly. I think they will be pretty upset when they find I am not returning. I start Monday--and I'm actually excited for school to start this year since I won't be in one! thanks for letting me share my news here :)

It's been awhile since I heard the term carriage return. I was a teletype operator in the AF back in the 60's. I see the enablers here have you hooked on conifers. There is no turning back. I have yet to see someone kick the habit. You've come a long ways. Nice Peaches! Mike

Not to be a total curmudgeon, BUT... 1) It's not your fence. It belongs to your neighbor 100% because he paid for it. That means you can't paint it, grow anything on it, or attach anything to it. 2) You don't have 6 more inches. That belongs to him, too! It's where the posts for his fence are. The fence is built entirely on his property! This isn't like buying a new house and the fence is on the property line: he paid for it and put it on HIS property. The property line appears to be where the wall is. The property line didn't move! (And no, he didn't "abandon" the 6" on her side, he's using it for the fence foundation.)

The fridge is now at the recycling center. It was never necessary for me to know details. That this old fridge used a lot of energy is all I needed to know. Within a few months i will be able to compare my monthly power bill. This gives an order of magnitude. Assuming other habits remain the same, after 12 or 24 months I can see an average drop. A power meter at the plug is just-for-fun; it's too much detail if you already know the answer and you aren't trying to find out. We ordered our new fridge before today but it is not here yet. The old fridge is (was) on a pedestal 18" above the floor. To move it to get to its plug would have required a major operation of muscle power. Don't feel like calling my friend(s) in for that. Hope this explains why i never got around to its measuring power consumption. We knew it was a power hog anyway, and moving it was a bear. Hope you don't mind my guessing that a fridge is less efficient when 26 years old than when new. Hope you don't mind my not measuring my own consumption although I did respond to someone else's query "how can we know" by saying they can measure power at the plug with a meter. I have a power meter. Someone in my household misplaced it. One day it will pop up. I intend to use it for the new fridge and for other things. Just to satisfy curiosity. -david

The Canary government has just ordered meetings with the supermarket chains here in order to stop food which has reached sell by date from going into the garbage bins. Normally the law prohibits using these products but it has now been eased in view of the severe economic crisis many local families are suffering. It's now not uncommon to see people going through the supermarket bins at the back of the stores to retrieve this food which is still edible. The food must now be distributed to the needy through help centres. It's about time that we stopped tossing food that is still good enough to eat when so many people are needy, so I'm glad to hear that something is finally being done about supermarket waste. SharonCb

Thank you all so much. You are the most supportive and kind group of people--it's fun to share good news with you! Brody's doing well--still not rolling over or even giving it a go. He's a little sloth. :)

Hey Joanna-
Congrats on the new job!

Brody's a cutie, he looks like your DH. I love the captions too! Naked Nap time! lol I can't believe he's 14+ pounds already! Katie is so little-I worry she's not gaining enough.

Katie rolls over, but she spends a lot of time on her tummy, so she has a crazy strong neck. Olivia was about 4-5 months when she did it.

Hope your job is great!! We still need to get together sometime!
