The Fainting Game-warning

I had not heard of this game played by teenagers for the purpose of getting a 'rush' or a small high without doing drugs. My friend's dd just lost a friend due to this game. It's very popular, esp. with high achievers. This game has been around for a while, I just wasn't aware of it. Here's how they go about it: someone will choke you to the point of passing out and then release you. The feeling is that of a warm rush to the head (from the blood returning) giving the person a nice little high. Teenagers also find a way of doing it to themselves using scarves, ties or ropes. This girl here in Holly Springs, NC, died from tying herself with a scarf. When she passed out, she fell towards her scarf and it tightened up killing her. It was ruled a suicide. It will be ruled a suicide if there are no witnesses even though a friend may report the death might be due to the fainting game. I'm not good at posting links but you can google it and read about it. It's good for parents and grandparents to be aware of this and talk to their children about the danger behind it. Many have died playing this game. Everyone should know what to look for- signs your teen is participating in this deadly game.
