OK, seriously - HOW do you clean wood (or faux wood) blinds?
Comments (45)figured I would bring this post back to life since I am now in need of cleaning my faux wooden blinds lol! in response to the last persons post re: using Windex, do not use Windex wipes. not sure about the spray but i happen to have a pack of windex wipes next to me and it says not for use on any wood type surfaces. pledge makes good wipes for that but you would prob need a few packages if your blinds were reallyyy dirty. anyway i am going to try dawn soap with warm water since mine are filthy! i had a small fire me in my room last summer and the insurance company had someone come in to clean the walls, blinds Etc and only bc i had to take my bounds down to fix a broken tilt cord, i just now noticed how horribly they "cleaned" them. (see picture reference) so ill post the before pictures now and after pictures once im done. in the pics im attaching now show how bad the back side of the blinds were that dont face towards me vs the 3rdnpic which is what i usually have them set to..ugh! at least 8 only have 1 side to really scrub at vs dusting the other cleaner side lol!...See MoreDecorating Opinions Please
Comments (20)I'd redo it in a heartbeat. But check with the guy making the mantle, so you can figure out how to attach it if you do the make over... ou can screw firring strips to the mortar joints with predrilled holes and tapcon screws. Then, attach to the firring strips, either sheetrock (drywall) and paint or texture it, or use the cement board (or hardiback board) and add tile and grout of your choice. here are a bunch of other ideas.. do a google search! http://home.ivillage.com/decorating/livingrooms/0,,homemake_nfkc,00.html http://fireplacedecorating.blogspot.com/2008/01/fireplace-makeover-cheryl.html http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/firepl/msg1012455117686.html http://www.brick-anew.com/ http://www.brick-anew.com/testimonials_Suzy.html Here is a link that might be useful: ron hazelton...See MoreFireplace, my progress in pics and your opinions, please!
Comments (19)Fillagirl, I'll definitely try that. Great idea! Thank you. I love the look of some screens but I really like the idea of the doors with young kids around. Wonder if it's possible to do it both and still look nice. I'll keep you posted. Speaking of Better Homes and Gardens, there's a fireplace in the October issue with a bluestone hearth and then bluestone, too, over where my brick is now. Looks beautiful. Something to think about! Thanks again!...See MoreFaux Wood Blinds (Inside Mount Dilemma)
Comments (10)Removing the quarter round molding seems like a solution to gaining more depth. But after looking at it more closely (see pic # 3) the vertical molding between the panes actually butts up against the quarter round at the top. So there would be a gap at the top where the quarter round was removed. However I believe the gap would probably be well hidden by the headrail. I haven't done it yet but it kind of seems like removing the quarter round could open up a can of worms/problems. Be just my luck something would get damaged and I'd end up calling a window installer for repair. And here's another thing, if we did go with the 2 in. faux wood blinds, even with the added inch of depth gained by removing the quarter round, they still won't be flush and with the window opening. And it looks like most of the blinds have a minim inside depth requirement of 3/4 of an inch. So now I'm thinking what's the point of removing the quarter round?...See Moregsciencechick
