Options Other Than Yahoo Mail

Got a notice in my Yahoo Mail that they will be doing some changing/upgrading in the next few months. BUT...I don't have to wait.."You can upgrade now if your browser is Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3, Safari 4, or Chrome 5 or newer. If you do not have one of these browsers, you must first update your browser (itÃ¯Â¿Â½s fast and free), and then return to this page and click the Upgrade Now button." Problem is...I will NOT upgrade my browser. I have VISTA...and I refuse to change! Why? Simply because I don't WANT to change.

So, that brings me to my question...what other options are there to Yahoo Mail?

I've use Hotmail for years.

They want you to upgrade your browser, not your operating system.

I have 2 free email accounts - hotmail and gmail.

Or maybe you don't access your account as often and just missed the window of downtime. Its problems are way more often this last week than other times. It's acting up right now. Try the link I have farther up the thread, and you'll see how large a chunk of time it's been misbehaving today. It's a moving graph so it won't show you Monday, for instance. not right this moment for me, but it was earlier and it absolutely was on Monday. Or maybe I only hit it when it wasn't working. Either way, I think you're dismissing things you shouldn't dismiss. Yahoo is having trouble right now. It'd be nice if it worked every time one opened their mail. Which is what one would expect from a mail provider. I've been with them for a very long time. It's my only email provider outside of work. I won't change. But to say it's smooth sailing, what's wrong with you? just shows you're either A) lucky, B) don't access it as often as others, or C) are oblivious(?).

I get those too. It gives me a choice of confirm or cancel, and since there is a possibility that there could be something I wouldn't want to know, I cancel. Some of these are from people I don't even know. I don't know why Yahoo thinks this is a good thing. Sue

Last nite was almost the final straw. It was slow loading, as usual and a window popped up to say it was slow and do I want to switch to Basic view to speed it up? I did and when I clicked on my messages the Reply, Delete etc were all gone! So reading the messages was useless. The Options, Help and Sign out buttons weren't clickable either. Good Grief!!! I did read my mail using IE, but that isn't the point. What the heck? I don't like Gmail and don't want Hotmail, so not sure what to do. You guys are lucky, that can still use the old version. Under the Help button here one of the FAQ is if the old version can be kept and the answer is no, we can't use that one anymore. Oh, I cleaned my history, cache and cookies this morning. I do malware, spyware etc etc regularly.

Bee you can keep your yahoo address but use a different email client to fetch all your yahoo mail and display it in their email format, you can also select to have any mail you are sending out from that new email client send it as the from address being your yahoo address. No one would know you had changed and you would not have to go through that hassle. I have that feature set up on some of mine I have kept some of my old email addresses active that way but never actually go there and use them. For example that gmx one is super easy to set up and use, it will not change a thing on your yahoo account so don't be afraid to do it because you think it may mess that up. It will then list on the gmx account your yahoo account and when you click on that you see all of that mail, it will also your gmx account and any mail etc you have in it. Most of the major players offer this option just because people dread having to make all those changes and notifying everyone. Plus if you decide you don't like it and don't want it just drop it, they are all free so why not give them a test drive. And it is usually very easy to copy your address book over also. this article covers this for gmail accounts, as I said most of the major ones can do this. Haven't gotten that email yet in Yahoo. But I also use gmail.

Not to worry, I still use an older version of Yahoo, cause I hate change.

You should not have to change anything. Vista is is your Operating System, not your browser. I have Vista and Yahoo mail. I did try the new e-mail using both Firefox and IE browsers. It works just fine with Vista and those browsers and it's faster than the old e-mail. You do not have to change to it unless you want to, but if you do decide to try it, and don't like it you can always go back to the old one. Yahoo is not forcing anyone to change, just giving you the option of a faster, safer e-mail.

Yes Vista is your version of your windows operating system it comes with IE Internet Explorer that is your browser, since you have Vista it is likely that your version of IE is IE7 to find out for sure just go up to the top where you see Help click on that then on about and it will show you which version of IE you are using.
So no need to change from your yahoo.
But it is always a very good idea to have more than one browser on any computer because should something bad happen to your IE browser (and it often does) then you will have no other way to get online, so adding firefox as an extra is good preventative medicine. Does not mean you have to use it but it is there just in case. You can leave IE set as your default browser and you will never know you even added firefox. However most that try it really like it, I rarely ever use IE now.

I will add that anyone that is still using IE6 needs to update to IE 7 or 8 as soon as possible you are at risk still using IE6 it is no longer supported and many websites no longer write for it so will not render properly.

Just ignore it an stay the way you are. I haven't gotten any notice about it. It will change on its own when ready.

I'm ignoring it. I like my yahoo mail. I use the free one. When I first saw it I thought they were forcing everyone to pay.

We still have Yahoo Mail but we use Entourage; when we travel we can only log into Yahoo. I hate Y. because the list of emails bounces around and it's very annoying. I've written to them about this but was ignored.

sjerin, what do you mean "the list of emails bounces around?" Maybe I have just been lucky, I have no problem like that. I use my yahoo for companies I am not familiar with and for people I don't know very well, but want to correspond with. I can delete it if I should have a problem. I keep my reg email with my cable server for family and friends.

I used to use my cable provider, as my main email, but the Spam was horrific!!!!

I wrote to Rogers complaining to them, and said that I get hundreds; literally of Spam, wanting to increase my P-nis, and I don't HAVE a pnis!

I switched to yahoo and really like it. I've had no problems and little spam. I have a Gmail acc't but don't use it. I don't care for it.
