I don't have any suggestions because we are in the same boat. I hate, hate, hate the changes to yahoo email. It is so cumbersome and difficult to use. I'm interested in what others are using, also.

Anybody a consistant gmail user? I would love to use the calendar and sync it to my phone but have yet to do it. in addition to the email. I'm curious. And suggesting gmail.

I use gmail since 2004. No problems at all. I had hotmail and yahoo before... and I still use yahoo for some mail.

Gmail is very good. It integrates very well with Android (of course, that's their own system) and iphones too. Excellent spam filtering.

But there's no appreciable difference between Gmail and using an address from your ISP. All are accessed over the internet from anywhere, all have apps to use on a smartphone. The only difference is that an ISP email account terminates if you move or change service providers.

Both Yahoo and Google provide the email software for many ISPs, so sometimes when people change FROM an ISP to a Yahoo or Google account, in fact they might be getting exactly the same thing. Not in your case, yahoo and google and for sure very different.

I have a aol account, its free and pretty good too. But....I am so used to yahoo I keep using it even though I don't like it anymore.

I am very happy with gmail. I have used it for a couple of years now. I used Yahoo before that and still keep it for some uses.

Sounds like a gmail is good alternate. Maybe I made a good suggestion for you redcurls? I hope so!

joyful, you can get them to send you a reminder so that you can get back into your account. I too forgot mine from not using it for a long time.

I also hope I can figure out the calendar thing. My son is beginning to do too many things to keep up with or I'm just getting too old to keep up! I hope he can learn how to sync it too because he really uses his phone as his school agenda/organizer. If he can get his class syllabi into the calendar and have it pop up to remind him to do his work, it'd be fantastic.

I don't use gmail, but I do use the google calendar, LOVE it! It's on my computer, iPad, Nexus 7 and my android phone. Enter the appointment once, and it's on all four devices. We seem to have so much stuff going on (now that we're retired!), it's nice to be able to access info when I need to.

I've had Yahoo forever. I'd have to go to so many sites and change my email address, it is not worth changing. I used to see all the horrible jiggling ads, but with Firefox, I don't. I really dislike the new search function. When I click on an email to open it, Yahoo performs some kind of search and I end up with a list of emails instead of just opening the one I want to read.

I also have a Gmail account. I used to not like it so much but now that it separates the Primary, Social and Promotions messages, I like it better.

I just have too many "systems" (bill pay, etc) in Yahoo to change it now.

I have used gmail for a long while now. It is reliable, and I have no complaints at all.

Another vote for gmail. My daughter uses it for her primary email and has done so for several years. I use it for a backup email (use my isp, Charter, for primary) and it works well for me. It is also integrated with my android phone.

I've had hotmail and gmail since 1999 - see no need to change - they work good for me.

How about Windows Live Mail?

I live in Canada. Before my computer with XP died in March I used and really liked Outlook Express. Now I have Windows 8 with Internet 10 and neither our Internet provider nor Firefox supports Internet 10 so I have issues. Not the least of which is the hated Windows 8. I use my computer only for Internet, e-mail, Word and the calendar. I don't have a cell phone etc. I also hate Word 2013. My SIL uses gmail and likes it - but I am just trying to make what I have work until it hopefully toasts itself during the warranty period.

I've used Yahoo for years, think it's been O.K.

Didn't sign up for the new format till I got dragged , kicking and screaming ...

... but haven't found it disagreeable.

I've gotten used to just clicking down the email list to go back a long way, instead of having to click back, screen by screen.

I'd thought to write them to ask that they have a line of numbers at the bottom, as Gardenweb does, so that we could click on one and be taken back to that screened list of 25 email messages from an earlier time, and we could juggle backward or forward from there, rather than being forced to go back, a screen at a time.

I only signed up for the basic...not the full new stuff...it is almost like the old yahoo...and I'm not having any problem at all with it.

I don't like changes.

I waited to accept the basic untill the very last day.

I have most of the regular ones including hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc one that is also quite good and I have mentioned before and had positive responses from is gmx.com

It is a very simple format and they are quite attentive to the users needs and wants. So you can add that one to your list to try out.
You can also have it and some of the others that were mentioned fetch your other mail for you from your other email accounts which is helpful if you don't want to have to go through the hassle of changing (called mail collector). Just have it fetch your mail from say your yahoo account and you view it in the new email account, you don't have to mess with yahoo but you still get your mail and don't have to change anything anywhere. You can also send your mail from this account but show it as coming from your other accounts. Kinda best of both worlds.

GMX Mail

I have had yahoo as my main account forever & don't want to change either. I don't like the changes they have done, but don't feel like changing so many other things related so will stick with them, as others above have mentioned.

Example:
I just sent an email with 2 attachments, & the recipient didn't get the attachments. So I tried again. It took foreverrrrrr to "scan" them after I attached them, which is not how they used to do it. Very AGGREVATING!!!!!

Bee you can keep your yahoo address but use a different email client to fetch all your yahoo mail and display it in their email format, you can also select to have any mail you are sending out from that new email client send it as the from address being your yahoo address. No one would know you had changed and you would not have to go through that hassle.

I have that feature set up on some of mine I have kept some of my old email addresses active that way but never actually go there and use them.

For example that gmx one is super easy to set up and use, it will not change a thing on your yahoo account so don't be afraid to do it because you think it may mess that up. It will then list on the gmx account your yahoo account and when you click on that you see all of that mail, it will also your gmx account and any mail etc you have in it.

Most of the major players offer this option just because people dread having to make all those changes and notifying everyone.
Plus if you decide you don't like it and don't want it just drop it, they are all free so why not give them a test drive.
And it is usually very easy to copy your address book over also.

What is described in a preceding post about Yahoo mail may not be correct.

To have Google access another mail system (to consolidate mail in one place, as described), the "POP" protocol is used. It's my understanding that Yahoo only permits POP access for paid (not free) mail accounts that they call Yahoo Plus.

Snidely is correct. I just set up a gmx account and tried to add my Yahoo e-mail account and could not do so unless I am willing to pay to Yahoo $20 a year. Boo Hiss to Yahoo.!

Ole joyful, I also have had problems trying to remember my passwords, so now keep a small note book that I record them in. It has been a big help sometimes.
