Just bought a new mattress set and the box springs were two inches shorter in height, so when I get up my feet almost hit the floor. Now quite, dangle a bit, but I'm a lot closer to the floor with the new one than I was with the old one. The old one I would have to roll over on my belly and slide to the floor :o)

Salesman told me, that as I get older I don't need to worry with the height of the bed. Took his advice and love it.

Since we got the king-size, I've had to use a stool, otherwise my feet dangle about 8 inches from the floor. Try putting on socks like that! LOL!

Not currently but we plan to put our present chest bed in the guest room and double height the one in ours. I'll need one when I can no longer leap. LOL

Mine isn't old fashioned and it's still tall. We bought a new mattress and frame a few years ago and didn't know if would be so high. The mattress was on a different frame in the store so it was almost regular height. I remember how hard I laughed after it was set up in our room because it was SOOO tall. Took awhile to get used to, but I like it alot now. Yep, those step stools comes in really handy.

The first night we slept it in, my DH forgot he was in a taller bed and when he went to get out of it during the night, he fell out. We didn't have the step stool at that time.

I like the higher bed because when I need to iron something quickly, it's just the right height.

Mine was like that for 2 years, DH finally lowered it on to 4x4's. I still don't know if I like it any better then before.

Just stood by my new mattress set and it hits me about at waist level.

I'll be 70 this summer, and don't know how many GOOD years I have. So was looking down the road.

At least with this one, I don't have to do a belly slide.

I hate the high beds. We got rid of the bed frame and have the box spring on the floor, which makes the bed the perfect height for us. Our main concern was the Yorkie--if he jumped off the high bed, he would hurt himself. Plus, the higher beds mean that bedspreads are too short. Dumb idea, IMO.

High beds can be and are dangerous to older people. It is too easy to fall and break something. When we ordered a new bed about 2 years ago, my feet did not touch the floor and we had to order (and pay for) a new frame. Not thinking, I let them take the old frame even though I paid for it when I orginally bought the bed. I am glad it is lower, because when DH came home from the hospital it really made a difference. If he or I had fallen, we could had broken anything and at 76 that is NOT Good. My friends mom insisted on a high bed and in fact she insisited her son in law raise it even higher. Yep, she fell, broke her hip, and arm and really never recovered. She was 80. She also laid their for several hours waiting until someone came to check on her, as she had a life line--on the table.

No, but I should be before I break something - like my back. The bed I have now is on a low profile frame, but don't that helps at all. Foam on top and bottom and an 18" drop, all on top of a pretty deep boxspring. This one is a replacement for a defective one, which was higher. I am so ready to pitch this bed for something lower.

No, but I think it would be neat to have an older bed that was so tall. I remember my grandmothers' bed and it was tall. Loved it!

We also have our boxspring and mattress right on the floor. I like the height that way, like that I never have to worry about vaccuming under the bed. Like that it makes the room look larger. And since I make all my own quilts, anyway, linens aren't a problem (I just buy an extra sheet to cover the box spring, rather than using a dust ruffle.)

So, anyway, no--no need for a stool to get into bed. Dont' think I'd like that at all. I like things to be simple, and I'm such a klutz, I'd probably get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and trip over the stool and break something! LOL.

I wouldn't want mine on the floor because of spiders. Every spread I buy is to narrow, so I pull it over to the side everyone sees. It's really, really high on the other side.

No, I can get in and out of bed okay, but I had a heck of a time climbing up on a stool last night to change a ceiling light bulb.

We just bought new box spring and mattress which we love, and fortunately both of us are tall, so getting in and out isn't much of a problem.

That said, something I never considered when buying is the weight of the mattress. I still have a lot of strength, but lifting that mattress just to get the top sheet and blanket tucked in is a real chore :-(

When I was about eight dear friends of my mom had a short interval between the sale of their old home in one city and the time they could move into their new home in another city. They stayed in to our guest room and stored as much of their furniture as they could in our basement.

Ah, but there was another solution for their double bed mattress: It was stacked on top of the double bed mattress in my bedroom! I was like the princess in "The Princess and the Pea". (I wouldn't like it now, sixty years later!)

BTW, if you are replacing a king bed...DH and I have a somewhat easier time turning two extra long twin mattresses that we use together as a European king bed. They are still *heavy*. A good mattress is probably going to be heavy unless it's an air mattress.

I used to have a very tall 4-poster bed.

I had to use a stool to get into bed.

I fell out of bed once and my backside landed on that stool. Was black and blue and sore for weeks - I was extremely lucky I did not damage my spine.

Long story short, got rid of that 4-poster bed frame and bought a low, plain metal queen-sized frame and a new mattress w/o a pillow top.

With the new mattress set, it is higher than I like...When they delivered it, I said I'd need a step stool and that I might get nose bleed but I've gotten used to it...I did threaten to saw off the legs of the bed but figured I'd do it wrong and really be crooked....Now if I could just figure out how to get in and out of our new "deep" bathroom tub?????

Mine's like a good dress - just a slight bit above the knee.

To put on sock, I hang the heel that belongs to this heel on the edge of the mattress, with the foot sticking out, just slide the sock over the foot.

Spiders may not be able to crawl out of a bathtub - but can climb up a headboard.

However, though I see spiders around here (they're harmless) ... I don't think that I've seen one in the bed. But then - most of the time when I'm in that vicinity, my eyes are shut.

Good wishes for a revivifying rest ... whether above step-stool height or not.

Mine's knee high (on me). A waterbed. I roll to the edge, put my foot on the floor, and push up. I pull my spread over to cover the the base, so it's higher on the side you don't see when walking by.

Not in the master bedroom although it's just a few inches higher than I would like. I bought an antique step stool to use in the guest bedroom when we bought the new mattress set. I thought since we have an ornate antique iron bed in that room that it may be too high and now after reading the other replies, it may just be the mattress set that we selected.

I should have one since I have an 1840 rope bed that is really high and I don't even have a box spring. It's a tall four poster and very nice with it's original finish. I had to have a custom mattress made for it since it's slightly shorter than a regular double. People were shorter back then, I guess.

I've noticed certain women that I've met wearing dresses and, while I may not be very cognizant of styles ... I've hardly ever seen a woman walking about without one.

No, I hate high beds. I am short, have hip problems, and need a low bed. Mine is a king size on a waterbed frame with drawers under it. I would say it is chair height.

No, but I have to hitch a hip up to get in just a bit. We have a CA king water bed with a temper pedic mattress and foundation on it. In the motor home, the base is high, higher than the bed in the house. I get in the same way, just hitch a bit higher! But if we can't put the side slide out, I have to use the stool to get up on it from the foot of the bed, because there is about 2" between the bed and the closet with the slide closed.

When we had the water bed mattress, I had my hystorectomy and DH had to cut down the side of the bed for me to get in and out by myself. I couldn't roll out like I used to due to the incision. He worked night shift, so for him to be able to go back to work after a week home with me, I had to be able to do it without help.
