First start with the function: what do you want to do in the room?
What is the flow of activities?
How do you want to move from one thing to the next?
What do you want to keep in the room?
What needs to be near at hand? Out of the way?
Now look at clearances - the space around the objects.
What's the mood you want to evoke? (Ugh, piles of smelly laundry or mmmm sweet smelling clean, folded and sorted, ready to wear or put away). What colors evoke the latter feeling?
My laundry room has sunny, palest yellow walls (BM Man on the Moon), a vinyl floor with multicolor flecks, primarily yellow and blue on white, and a TV, VCR and DVD because they take my mind off actually doing the laundry.

A laundry room is something you can really play with. I love the print and the two colors that would look great on the walls are a deep rose, or a very light yellow.

I have that picture, although I think my frame is different. I really like the black frame. You could paint the wall in a tan/gold color similar to the print and accent in black.

How about a creamy ivory room with black-painted shelves (If you have a back door in your laundry room you could even paint that black for a change too!) -- and cream-and-black fabric accents (window treatments, bulletin board etc.) Add glass canisters with black lids.

Thats a wonderful print- seem like a nice print for the laundry room-but if this is its home than create the atmosphere around it- remember- trends come and go-make it comfortable for you-its your room - the colors in the print- the old world style, rich, elegant , soft- make it a starting point for a whole collection of similar botanical - they can always be moved later and the whole family of earth tones in the prints are easy pallets to decorate with.if you get it matted, the shop can show you other frames- they make a big difference- best wishes

First, think practical as Suero outlined (wonderfully I might add.) Then take the print and work around it. Paint chips, swatches of fabric, articles in magazines or on blogs, gather ideas that go with your print.

Can we see a photo of the space?

Have you considered having the print mounted on canvas instead of framing it? Unframed canvas prints have a nice casual appeal fitting a laundry room and the black border in the print gives the illusion of a frame.

Is this a new build or a remodel? Do you have a layout or photo you could share?

If you have a nicely lighted laundry room, you might consider black cabinets mixed with natural woven baskets something like this kitchen.

Thanks so much for your thoughts so far - they are really helpful and have given me things to really think about.

Here are some pictures of the space - the house belonged to my husbands parents so it has not been decorated in decades. You can see there is still paneling on the wall.

Please excuse the boxes - my husband was using it as a den and has packed up his stuff to move to his new office (still being built).

It is a nice size room, big window, lots of light.

My husband is building the cabinetry which will be somewhat in a 'Shaker' / "Cape Cod' style similiar to picture. I was going to paint them an antique white with black hardware but open to suggestions.

This is a draft copy of the units my husband is building for me which will be placed on the long walls facing eachother.

Here is the picture again I mentioned. It is still a work in progress as I am restoring an old wood frame by painting it. I am not finished yet with this.

This is a picture of the print on a pair of sheer curtains I was "thinking" of using but I am not sure if they are right for the space.

I did think of a deep gold but I have BM Dijon in my hallway and thought it would be yellow overload. Your thoughts?

Or a Rose, raspberry or orange shade??? Any color suggestions are appreciated.

I use teacats inspiration technique as well. After a bottle of wine...something will come up ummm I mean come to you :o)

Just from the pic, I'd paint the walls RL Parchment, ceiling in Writers Parchment, and I'd accent with black as suggested above. I'd decopague antique sheet music to the insides of the cabinet doors (the part that's framed) and antiqe them. (crackle finish, antique wash over the top) The base color I'd do on the cabinets would be a soft ivory or use the ceiling color (which is a soft tan/ivory).

And then have a martini...

Personally, I don't think you can have yellow overload, but I'd go with a shade or two lighter than Dijon, Key West Ivory or Macadamia Nut, both of which will go wonderfully with that fabric.

I'd consider a rose color for the walls. You will have plenty of case goods so there wouldn't be a LOT of rose. I did our small 3/4 bath in rose paint with a white floor, and white and green accents (the toilet, sink and shower stall are an apple green).

On my monitor the fabric shows up as being to apricotty compared to the print. That's a gorgeous print, by the way!!!!

Yes I aggree with the 'apricot' in the curtains - they are just not doing it for me.

I will look at deep rose color from BM and I am still thinking a deep yellow/gold (I am not sure I want to go lighter then the Dijon in my hallway). Most of the colors in my home are in the mid-to-deep tones.

What do you ladies think of Bryant Gold by BM? A woman has an unused can mixed in November for sale on CL in my area.

I do think the rose color sounds nice too - anyone have any BM suggestions?

So I should rule out a deep orange color I guess and choose from the yellow and rose?

You have yourself a huge laundry room that is going to look gorgeous with the new cabinetry. I too would go with the rose color as I think there is a lot of gold in the flooring and you could end up with a neon room. I think the rose would be so pretty with your curtains and you'd have a good feeling everytime you went in that room.

I second the practical beginning, but it looks as though your plan has already answered those questions.
You might l like to think about keeping the walls a pale shade of whatever color you are leaning toward, and keeping it on the cool side of that color. Strong colors (particularly those in the yellow/gold family) can reflect tones that make it tricky to see subtle spots and stains that need attention. I would also caution against sheers with any color in them at all, for the same reason.
(I've only had the luxury of real laundry rooms in two of my houses, and in both cases I went toward crisp water and sky colors with lots of white and, of course, the obligatory touch of black!)
