How did you learn to sew?

I am new to this forum, but thought of something when I was adding my info to the welcome new members post.

I remember my grandmothers old singer pedal sewing machine and playing with the pedal I couldn't have been more then 7 or 8. (she had to be between 70 or 80 at the time) Watching the needle go up and down. I had to push the pedal then stand up to watch the needle move.

My Mom taught me later at 12 or 13 how to sew, knit and crochet. I remember sewing my girlfriends home ec projects for them because they just couldn't get it and getting in an argument with the Home Ec teacher about my clips for a curved seam, she didn't think there were enough, I knew there were because the seam layed flat.

I tried to teach my daughter a couple of times to sew but she "sooo" wasn't interested. I am afraid she may not even be able to sew a button on.

Anyway those are my musings on how I learned to sew.
