We installed Armstrong's best laminate underlayment before laying our laminate flooring. It's very thick and will not interfere with the warranty. I'm not sure how the price stacks up to the cork however. The underlayment is a very thick material, almost like carpet padding. I have 220 sq. ft. I need to unload, you interested? LOL We accidentally bought too much.

Well, brutuses--that would be great--to get what you have left, given we have 247 sq. ft. left to do, but
our laminate is already backed with underlayment--and the rep was so insistent that we dare not put ANYTHING
else but I'm just hoping someone has ignored the warning (having the underlayment already attached) and longterm has found it
was not a problem, afterall! Hoping against hope,, I guess!! :o) I'm a 'follow the rules' kinda gal so I'd have to be really convinced
to do anything to negate the supposed warranty!

BTW--I LOVE your flooring!!!! If we did not already have a room plus of what we have, I'd go for what you have!!! :o)

Oh no, do not listen to your rep. Did you go to the website that makes your flooring? Armstrong, the one we have, advices to put underlayment under all their laminate whether it is backed or not because that backing doesn't offer any sound deadening. You know the notorious click, click, click. It is a lot more comfortable on the feet also.

hey, I just came from Armstrong's manual on line and it states that flooring with attached underlayment should have Armstrong Moisture Barrier Sheeting under laminate flooring. I know I remember seeing somewhere they recommend the premium underlayment even with backing, but that was a while back or it could have been just for the specific floor I was checking out at the time. What is the specific name of the flooring you have? Here is the link to the online manual. It's chapter XVI that I read about the Barrier Sheeting.

So--someone must have told you, you could do that with your flooring, brutuses--did the ones putting it down say it,

problems down the road like they described I would have if I put ANYTHING down under other than the poly. moisture
barrier, which is a 6 ml visqueen, really, I think!

hey j, I'm sorry, it seems our floor doesn't have the attached underlayment, but I know when I was looking at flooring that had it, I found online, a site that recommended the extra underlayment. Maybe I was confused with the vinyl barrier stuff. I don't know. I'll keep looking and let you know what I find. Don't thank me for help, I'm not sure I've given you any. LOL

I don't know if this helps with your warranty issues but we placed roofing paper between our concrete and engineered floor.

tishtoshnm--I've heard of doing that in low spots and I wondered if that wouldn't be an option for sound deadening
all over!! Did it help with that aspect of your flooring?
Did you glue it or just lay it between your moisture barrier and the planking?

I'd talk to some more reps. I'm helping DS install laminate flooring they purchased from LumberLiquidators and they recommended cork flooring under the flooring even if it has attached underlayment. LL recommends the cork if you're needing more warmth and if the floor is on a second level (noise reduction) but since we didn't need either, we just went with the moisture barrier. It's installed on concrete.

I would read the warranty and see exactly what it covers, then make your decision. I'm tempted to agree with your DH when it comes to warranties! :) Keep in mind that extra thickness under the flooring may interfere with doorways and any adjacent floors so be sure and check for that.

hey j, seems I was confused. Imagine that? LOL Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you though. I had the underlayment I'm using confused with the sheeting material. DH said the sheeting material moisture barrier is very important if you have the attached backing and are installing on a cement floor. I don't think the roofing material someone else mentioned is a good option for laminate, but may be confused on that also. LOL I think moisture can get trapped or something. It wouldn't be a bad idea to go ask specific questions on the laminate forum. There you'll find more answers than you need. I would do what the manufacturer recommends because down the road you don't want failure in the floor and not have any recourse.

Please don't forget to post photo's of your floor after it is installed. Again, I'm sorry I confused the matter more for you.

Hey J-Did you ever use an another underlayment, in addition to to one attached to the bottom of your flooring material? What were your results?

I would like to float Pergomax laminate wood (which already has an attached underlayment) over my above grade concrete subfloor.

Like yourself, I wish to use an additional cork underlayment, but the Pergo instructions advise against it.

Can anyone offer any advice?
