Persil Universal Powder Detergent for Darks & Colours???
Comments (6)yes, it's a mid - long term effect. Back in the seventies/eighties here in europe we had just regular powders with oxygen bleach and wool powdered detergents. The choice was between a too harsh detergent that faded dark colours and a too mild detergent that was uneffective with several stains. Since 20 years we have regular detergents *whitout* oxygen bleach that wash colours whitout fading. Some detergents have even anti transfer agents to wash "mixed colours" and dark fabrics with no damage. To have a clue my black jeans and coloured polo shirts back then faded a lot despite of warm washes, now they last for many years. Also : since round 10 years we routinely wash black, cherry red, green Ikea (so not the finest quality) towels @ 140°F with detergents for darks (as the likes of Perwoll Black Magic or Woolite for Darks) Black is still black, cherry red is still cherry red ... back those times it would have turned into grey and pink within six months Also be aware that powders may leave some unsoluble residues on dark fabrics. Washer manufacturers (miele included) reccommend to wash dark fabrics with liquid detergents. They say powder contain zeolites ( roughly speaking, clay) that are unsoluble and leave little unpleasant white grains on laundry. I feel those powders that use zeolites as water softener take ages to be rinsed properly and no matter laundry feels rather stiffer than if it were washed with liquids or other kinds of powders...See MoreSW universal khaki, relexed or wool skein?
Comments (4)I've actually used all three...I love them all! They just seem so versatile and I loved mixing and matching them with other colors. I even used the relaxed khaki to paint my dated oak kitchen cabinets in my last house. For my new home I used wool skein as the main color in the open spaces ( kitchen , great room, hall ways) I did that because one of the builders who posts on the builders forum said that was his go to color. He posted pictures of several of his homes and I really liked them. It seemed like a good choice and I was tired of making decisions, LOL. I don't regret it at all. For contrast, I ended up using darker colors in my bathrooms and some of my bedrooms....See MoreWhat bedroom paint color to sell?
Comments (20)We just finished having the entire interior of our house painted. We went with Dunn Edwards Inside Passage 25% lighter. I wish I did the full colour, but was afraid it would be too dark. As it stands, it is a very pale beige and it has made a huge difference in the appearance of the house. WE too, have wooden doors (not veneer) and we had the painters spruce them up with fruit oil stain. They did the same thing with the bathroom cabinets and the baseboards throughout the house. What a difference! Once the new tile is in the house, i will post before and after pics because this house had a myriad of colours that didn't blend as well as horrid, horrid wall paper. The kitchen cabinets were painted a tan colour and we had them painted Dunn Edwards Swiss Coffee. The contrast with the walls is wonderful and really brightens up the kitchen. As for whether to paint or not, I don't think you should do it. Rather, put something colourful on your bed, maybe a new duvet with some accent pillows. Some silk plants or other accessories can add colour without having to go to the time/expense of painting a colour a prospective buyer won't like....See MoreUniversal white paint to go with white vanity and marble countertop?
Comments (2)First, review your lighting that is currently in there, to be sure you're using the lighting you'll want going forward. There are multiple threads in Houzz about choosing "daylight" bulbs of certain wattages. And there are also threads about lighting making whites appear yellow (or blue). Then, you can start out by getting some white primer and painting a wall, or a big section of a wall white...or even the whole bathroom. I would also consider buying a 3' x 3' piece of drywall (or something that size) and trying out your potential colors on that. You can set it against the cabinets, and the marble, and move it into the corners of the room, to help you decide. I love choosing whites, but when i do, I get 5, or 10, or (ahem) 20 sample pots to look at before deciding. Those are my tips. Good luck!...See Morealex9179
