That is a funny story and that was a nice, nice man.

I saw a funny video of a small squirrel or maybe a chipmunk sneaking into the bottom flap of a vending machine, the place where the product falls so you can grab it, and what ever the animal was, was able to steal some of the stuff in the machine. It made several trips inside the machine. I suppose stocking up for the winter. LOL Dottie

What about the blonde who put two quarters in the soda pop machine, reached in and got the soda, then stood there yelling "I won, I won"!!!

About ten years ago I was travelling for work visiting a vendor in VERY rural Georgia. A coworker and I stopped at a small gas station, and there was an old-fashioned coke machine there. It was bottles, all lined up behind glass, with a coin box on the side.

For a lark, and because it was hot, we decided to buy a couple of cokes...mostly because we wanted to see the cool machine work. So we put in the change, and waited. Nothing happened. Nothing dropped, nothing moved, nada.

Hmmmm. We saw people drinking bottled cokes coming from this direction, so unless the machine broke, like, seconds ago it should work. More money went in. Nothing. We tried one more time, scratching our heads and wondering how the thing worked. No buttons or levers, nothing.

As we were standing and scratching our heads, a man comes up, looks us over, proceeds to OPEN THE DOOR and take a bottle of soda from the completely unlocked cooler, then plunk some change into the slot ROFLMAO!

No lock, no automation, no dropping cokes. Simply put your money in the coin box and take your coke, on the honour system.

We were there for a week. A long, hot, humid, clothes sticking to your back and bugs circling your head, no air conditioning week.

So, Dances ...instead of seeing the " ...cool machine work ... " ...

... you were the one who had to do the work ...

... but were too young to know it!

When I was in college many years ago, we had a coke machine in the dorm. One of my friends put in her nickel, this was in 1942, and to her surprise, 10 cokes came out. What a treat.

That kind of reminds me of a rotary phone that was my grandfathers, it was black table type. I kept it and it still worked and and used it in a basement room. One of my sons friends was over (he was about 12 yrs old) and needed to use the phone. I pointed to the old black phone. He picked up the
and stared at it for a minute, he had no idea how to use ..
boy did that make me feel old.

I got rid of it a few years later, wish I kept it. My sister actually went out a bought a retro looking one like it with the buttons. It just was as heavy and substantial looking as the one I had.

We had vending machines at work. I noticed a bag of potato chips stuck in the machine, I bought soething and as it dispensed it pushed out the chips. So I got BOGO that day!

izzie, we have one of the old black rotary phones. Our house in GA has a phone cubby in the hall so my granddad gave me a phone to put in it. I LOVE the ringer on this phone- it will wake the dead which is important since Eric is so hard of hearing. Trade off is that it also scares the #@$! out of the cats and me when it rings, LOL.

I was just yesterday telling my son about those old rotary phones.
How you don't push buttons, you actually dialed the number.
He said, "Wow, that's a lot of work to make a phone call.
Didn't that make your fingers tired or make them sore?"

I'm starting to feel the differences caused by the generation gap.

Casey we have had that to happen to us many times.But greg and hit hot temper,he would just bout flip the machine up side down,making my face blood red because I was so so embarrased.One time I protended I was not with him because others were around him ,seeing him trying to flip the machine,so I asked Greg,Saying it this way,"Sir would you want me to get someone to help you,knowing all the time I was looking for the security man so I could tell him to come do something to Greg.I just knew we were going to jail for breaking the machine because greg would try to flip it ALL the way over,just for .75.But greg would say,I worked hard for this money and I am tired of these machines cheating me.I would beg greg please just let me give you .75 and let us get the heck out of here.But PLease its just .75.That make greg even madder for me to say that.LOL

Also dances the coke machine you are speaking of,we had those kind around here and there is still some like that at a few places and I love those kind.Were the cokes in bottles that after you placed the money in just open the door and pull one out?They used to be in bottles you could turn the empty bottles back in and get a nickle for.We used to go around collecting empty bottles and take them back to the what we would call the gas station.We collect enough so we could get all of us 6 kids a coke to drink,alone with a "MOON PIE" some never heard of that have you?Those were the good ole days.
