How do you like your marble countertops?
Comments (41)I often see posts about Carrera and Calacutta marbles --- has anybody done Crema Marfil? Is it really a "true" marble? I had a granite in mind for my master bath and there isn't enough of it. On my revisit to the stone yard I was once again attracted to the soothing qualities of crema marfil --- only a tiny bit of veining, very consistent, with once in a while fossils. It looks very pretty. My other granite choices just didn't seem to work as well with the fabrics and cabinets that I have in mind. The crema marfil would make a very monochromatic look, but it would allow my pretty windows to shine and would hopefully all just look pretty together. But, I came home, jumped on GW and saw so little about it that it worries me! Don't mean to hijack, I'm just hoping somebody has experience with this stone! Here is a picture of the combo --- the creamy color will be my cabinets, the dark brown paint and then the fabrics are window seat and window treatment. The little glass crackle tile would be periodic in the floor. I could do crema marfil floor tile as well, but again, not much info! BTW, kateskouros, if I had an island like your gorgeous island, I'd be propped up on it making margaritas!...See MoreIs it crazy to love/prefer etched marble?
Comments (9)IÂm wondering if the Meg Ryan Technique is the way to go as well. IÂve never seen a marble counter top in person  so I have no idea what the etching really looks like. However, everyone talks about the charm of a well used marble counter so IÂm wondering if the "in-between" phase is the hardest  from perfect to well used  when all the etching flows together rather than standing out like a sore thumb. So, perhaps quickly bringing it to "well used" might be a good way to go? Then, it could be resealed against stains  or not if bleach works so well to remove stains. I have zero experience here, just trying to brainstorm this....See MoreMarble, Etching, and Can You Live With It?
Comments (9)I took these 2 pictures a couple weeks ago because this topic comes up so much. I've had my statuary marble for a little over 2 years. I have lots of etches on it, but 4 weeks ago, while making strawberry freezer jam, I got my big ones. I was ladle-ing (is that a word?) the jam into jars and then laid the ladle and spatula on the marble in between jars and batches. I wasn't thinking that strawberry would etch. While I'm not thrilled with it, I know from experience that this etch will "fade" or blend in better at some point. And I just don't really mind all that much. The marble is still my favorite thing in the house! Both pictures are of the same area, but different angles. When you just stand looking at the marble, you just don't see even this big etch. Sorry for 2 posts but I don't know how to post 2 pictures in one. This picture is the huge etch....See MoreThoughts on mixing warm marble with cool carrara marble?
Comments (3)It doesn't look right to me. I think you need to pick which one is your favorite and ask for suggestions of what to put with it. If you really love the subways maybe you could find a Calacatta Gold Marble that would work better with it. Calacatta Gold has both warm and cool tones in it. Here is one picture of Calacatta Gold that I grabbed of the web The picture below is actually a porcelain slab that mimics the look of Calacatta. They are thin slabs and could be used for shower walls. You might want to consider something like that if you don't want to deal with the upkeep and issues that some experience with real marble....See Morelascatx
