I played with paper dolls. My Mom gave me the ones from McCall's magazine and would occasionally buy paper dolls for me.

For a while I was making magnetic paper dolls with the child's face on them and selling them on Ebay with different clothes. I haven't made one in a couple of years but guess I should make them for the twins. They would enjoy playing with them.

Hey, over here, see my hand raised/waving.....another paper doll person. I used to love them, and since my parents wall papered for extra income, I too used scraps for dresses.

Nope, never liked dolls of any kind. I was so mad at mom one year when she gave me a big "walking doll". My brother got a farm set. Never saw the fun in Barbies, or anything like that.

I had a little red barn with animals too and I really enjoyed it.

I just made clothes for them...didn't really play with them. I also didn't play with dolls. My favorite toy was also a farm set, with all the animals. Recently, I found a bunch of the animals at a yard sale. I was pleased as could be.

Yes, and many years ago cigarettes came in flat tin boxes about 5" square and if lucky and we got one we's store clothes in it. I had Lucky Strikes and Old Gold tins from my neighbors. My sister used to cut out "Boots" paper dolls from the Sunday papers. Many movie stars had paper doll books with their photos on the dolls even the men. such a happy innocent time. I have my Mom's paper dolls from 1900 They were two sided and you'd slip the head in to the dress like you would a dress.

I played with paper dolls - I usually played with the kind that were in a "coloring" book but were perforated (sp?) & you popped outthe doll & the clothes had little tabs on the top that folded over the top of the doll. I recall very vaguely a girlfriend of mine & I using wallpaper - the cutting out was a little tough on me because I am a "lefty".

I also played with Barbies & baby dolls - my sisters & I (all 5 of us) played pretend alot.

Yes. I remember buying paper doll books at the 5&10 store. The dolls were on the cover and , I think, perforated. The pages of the book contained the clothes and we cut them out with scissors.

I never remember making clothes out of wallpaper. The only wall paper I ever saw was pasted to the walls in the house :)

I had a pony first and later a horse and I spent most of my free time with them. Those were the good years.

Was the one from McCall's called Betsy McCall? I remember waiting for my mother to finish with the magazine so I could cut out Betsy and her clothes. There were also books of clothes and the doll was made from the cardboard cover.

I can remember having a Debbie doll which was in the pre-Barbie era. I was too old for dolls when Barbie came along.

I loved paper dolls. I used to save up my allowance (12¢) to buy them. As Monica said, they were in a book with the doll on the cover and her clothes on the pages. I always loved the movie star ones, I remember Betty Grable and some of the others! What great memories.

Another paperdoll player, here. I also had a bunch of babydolls and kissed them all goodnight every night. Had a blonde pony-tailed Barbie with a black and white swimsuit, too.

Didn't have a horse or a pony. Cousin and I had to straddle cross pieces of fences. We had a few of them named, though! LOL

I played with paper dolls a little. I preferred to be outside playing baseball or making forts. I also had a BB gun and some paper targets. Can you say "Tomboy"?

I had paper dolls- I can recall having the Brady Bunch and my absolute favorite was a paper doll that had my name. She was a stiff cardboard and had the best clothes! I discovered her again in my niece's toys many years later.

I had various paper dolls as a kid, as well as the one with a magnet in her stomach to hold the clothes on. . A neighbor girl taught me to cut clothes from catalogues and cut paper tabs to hold them on the paper dolls. Fun and cheap!

Yes and my favorite ones were my Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel paperdolls.

I loved paper dolls. Sometimes I look on ebay at vintage paper dolls to see if they have any I remember (from the 50's). We also called them cut-outs. I realize I had many more than I thought. I don't buy, just look, and the good feelings come back.

Yes, I loved paper dolls and made my own from the old Spiegle catalogs. I had doll furniture and those red and white plastic bricks that locked together, and would make a floor plan of a house, then put the furniture in the rooms for my paper dolls. Anyone remember those bricks?

I loved paper dolls and would play with them for hours. Does anyone remember the Betsy McCall paper dolls from McCall's magazine? My aunt used to subscribe to McCalls and would always save the paper dolls for me. I had 3 sons, so paper dolls were truly history for me....until I became a grandmother to our beautiful Ella, who is now 2-1/2. I buy her the big magnetic paper dolls that work with her little hands.

I played with paper dolls a little. We used to cut out our own too. I think we folded a large piece of paper in zig zags then cut (all at once) a string of paper dolls that were holding hands.

We also made little doll figures out of the old fashioned hollyhocks (the ones with a single row of petals). A fully open flower would be the skirt and a bud could be attached with a toothpick to be the head.

I was really more of an outdoor girl too. My sisters and I grew up on a farm and spent a lot of time playing in the dirt, in the garden, in the barn and other buildings. I was always a horse lover too and from the time I was 10 I had one or several horses around to ride.

Does anyone remember the paper horses that Elizabeth Tayler played with in National Velvet? I thought those were so great!

I don't remember playing with paper dolls so much as I do the flat cardboard dolls that stood up and you dressed them with cutouts of sticky vinyl clothing. Have no idea what they were called, but you could layer the clothes and they would just stick to each other.

I enjoyed paper dolls, too. I never wanted my daughter to have a Barbie, so we enjoyed paper dolls and other little dollies together.

I drew paper dolls and their clothes for my friends in grade school. They weren't all that great ( a little better than stick figures ) but my friends liked them and I loved to draw. Had some of the other dolls cut from newspapers and magazines, drew clothes for them too.

Paper dolls were my favorite thing. If anybody here remembers Tonette permanents--home permanents for little girls--they came with paper dolls.

I remember them like Monica and they only cost 10 cents. 10 cents bought me a lot of joy!! My favorite ones were Susan Hayworth and Doris Day. We kept them and all their clothes stored in the pages of an old Sears catalog.

Back when those catalogs sold everything including furniture, we used to make rooms for them by cutting out the pictures.

I played with the cardboard dolls where the 'clothes' were held on with paper tabs. This kind of play taught coordination (cutting, placing the clothing on and taking it off) and patience. It was certainly inexpensive and took up hours of playtime. You could play alone or with a friend.

I just loved them - the Betsy McCall paper doll was so exciting - and I loved making my own clothes for the paper dolls.

I was never a Barbie fan, I liked "baby dolls" which did pretty much nothing except open and close eyes, so I could dress them up in real baby clothes and care for them like real babies - in a way they really were "real" to me.

But yes, I also loved paper dolls - I don't recall actually "playing" with them, but the clothes creations - designing and coloring - was so much fun.

My older sister loved her "Bride" dolls and Barbies and I would play with her but my heart was never in it. She did use to make me the basic paper doll person cut out in heavy paper or thin cardboard for me to make more clothes, she liked that and she was very talented.

I have some paper dolls which belonged to my mother when she was a small child, of Shirly Temple. She adored Shirley Temple - I have them in their original box on in a bookcase. I think of her every time I look at them.

Yes my sister and I played with paper dolls and had so much fun. Then we got "Ginny" dolls which came out before Barbie and we loved playing with her too. Actually I loved all kinds of dolls and played with them until I was a young teenager.
