When You Were In Grade School Did You....?
Comments (26)I went to a one room school house. We had to make our own valentine boxes. We had to give everyone a valentine and I remember we didnt want to give too mushy of one to some of the boys but we were all friends. We had a party for that and all of the other holidays and I remember our mothers would come and bring all of our younger siblings along so it got quite crowded. We had about 25 kids in school. Im sure with all of the others there was probably 50 people there. What I remember the most was a chicken that we made out of hearts. The body was a large heart and smaller hearts were glued on to make the neck, head, wing, tail and legs. I sure wish I had the pattern for it. Does anyone else remember this?...See MoreWhen You Were Married Did You Take A.....
Comments (42)Nope. Did not take much of a honeymoon trip. We married on a holiday weekend (to get the extra day). Traveled about 100 miles away from the wedding site and stayed our first night together in a small hotel. Used the next day to take a leisurely drive back to our first apartment, and on the third day, set up our living quarters. I had started a new job fresh out of college 3 months prior ot the wedding was was due back on the job the next day following the 3 day weekend. My wife had one more year of college and she was busy registering for classes. We lived on ahoestring that first year. My wife graduated the next year and things began to look up economically. But her first year of work was an internship (required for state certification) that did not pay well. Two years later, we started our family and thankfully by then, my job had begun to pay better - enough to support us and new baby. Since that first year, we have taken a sight-seeing trip almost every year for vacation for the next 30 years. We still take trips, but the focus has broadened because we have seen many of the scenic places that were on our list....See MoreWhen You Were Little Did You......................?
Comments (32)I just loved them - the Betsy McCall paper doll was so exciting - and I loved making my own clothes for the paper dolls. I was never a Barbie fan, I liked "baby dolls" which did pretty much nothing except open and close eyes, so I could dress them up in real baby clothes and care for them like real babies - in a way they really were "real" to me. But yes, I also loved paper dolls - I don't recall actually "playing" with them, but the clothes creations - designing and coloring - was so much fun. My older sister loved her "Bride" dolls and Barbies and I would play with her but my heart was never in it. She did use to make me the basic paper doll person cut out in heavy paper or thin cardboard for me to make more clothes, she liked that and she was very talented. I have some paper dolls which belonged to my mother when she was a small child, of Shirly Temple. She adored Shirley Temple - I have them in their original box on in a bookcase. I think of her every time I look at them....See MoreWhen Did You Realize You Were No Longer Young?
Comments (42)Hi Ron, Congrats on having kept your inquiring mind intact ... and the muscles more or less so. _______________ Had it in mind, when I saw the topic, to reply, "Not yet!". But then I remembered that about seven? years ago son was going to help a friend move and I planned to visit a cousin while he was doing so, but the guy had a lot of stuff (including banana boxes largely filled with books) and I stayed to help for a while. After climbing 19 steps carrying a fairly heavy load ... ... one could swear that someone was pulling steps off of the bottom and adding them to the top of that danged stair! I stayed for some time, and didn't have serious trouble carrying the loads ... and when I did, I'd quite for bit. Recently, when we were helping another friend move ... quite a few steps up to second story in a commercial area (don't remember exactly how many), after a few such trips (and, if I recall, carrying lighter stuff), my knees told me that this was not a pleasant activity. And recently, at the investment group a young, curious, vivacious lady appeared, and, early on, asked me to give her a hug. I found her rather attractive ... and, on relating the story to son, was told to "Go for it", but have been playing it cool. On a recent visit, after sharing an account of some recent relational heartbreak ... ... she told me that I remind me of her grandfather ... and earlier, on seeing me when I was wearing my falsies (teeth, that is), she said that it made me look ten years younger. Oh, well. Have a great weekend. I have some tomatoes that are growing like crazy ... needed staking last week (if not earlier). And weeds that need hoeing/pulling. And beans/peas that need picking ... but may leave that till morning, to take to church fresher ... but that darned church starts at 10 rather than 10:30, in summer! Is it true that as we get older we tend to procrastinate? ole joyful...See MoreMarilyn Sue McClintock
