For me I wouldn't be happy with the look if it were my kitchen. My layout so far has a U-shaped run of counter top, with a 48-inch range with double ovens on the top part of the U. I did consider having a 36-inch range with one oven underneath along with a small under counter oven (to be used for occasional baking) in my peninsula. I ruled that option out because it would have taken away from the storage area for my huge collection of pots and pans. Even with that option I was a bit worried about the aesthetics, even if the run with the secondary oven was perpendicular to the main run holding my range. I would have been really concerned had the secondary oven been drawn in right next to my range. Doesn't Bluestar make a 36 inch wide range with a double oven underneath? I know Fratelli makes one. I considered this as well but had to rule it out because DH wanted something that could hold a ginormous turkey, even if it was only once a year if that. Depending on what you cook that could be an option, but I would just make sure your pans/roasting dishes fit inside beforehand.

I currently have an electric coil cook top, double wall ovens and the MW on the counter. My new kitchen will have a Bosch 500 series 36" gas cook top and a 30" Whirlpool regular double wall oven. The MW will go in a nook above a counter. I love having wall ovens so I don't have to bend over. When I help in a kitchen with a regular stove if feels awkward use the oven. Also, I've had both of my hips replaced and I cook enough that that type of thing matters. I went low middle of the road with my appliances and am reusing some. After reading here about the temperamental nature and need for uber exhaust with the high end ranges, I didn't feel for my needs it was worth the extra money. I'm putting my money into cabinets and good mechanical / plumbing.

I would like to consider other brand 36" range that is around $2500, but I went to a few appliance showroom in San Francisco Bay Area, the cheapest brand is kitchen aid, I could not find those brand on the link. Deeageaux posts here. Does Anyone use Verona 36" dual fuel? It is only $2500. I can put the oven on my 4.5x8' island. I didn't think of cutting granite/ceaser stone cost for the cooktop. Somebody told me the oven in the range has a fan/venting system for the smoke, but wall oven doesn't. Is it true? I am thinking about induction cooktop. Not so sure yet. Rosie: only concern I have for oven not under the cooktop is the smoke(If I burn the food or grease from cooking the meat) from the oven can't be vented out by my hood. Do you find that is an issue?

Either setup can work and I would choose the best based on function, not form. One thing you should be aware of is that you have to respect the required clearances between the oven and cooktop, which means an oven under a cooktop will likely be lower to the ground than an range oven is. Although it may be okay to lift something off the oven's rack, you'll likely find that having a (hot) door that pretty much opens onto the floor is an annoyance. Another consideration is whether or not you prefer to stand in front of an oven that is venting warm air onto you while you are tending to a cooktop.
