Happy Friday to all of you! The Xmas party sounds like fun, Sharon, and I think it's smart to plan it early, things book up so fast! Alexa, have fun at the TS party. I hate those things, too, but TS really does have some good stuff! Yikes, Karen! Just reading about all your Xmas partying makes me tired too! I am sure you'll have fun attending as well as hosting! Nancy, I am with ya on the skipping Xmas thing. It's gonna be a lean one this year, that's for sure! I got word this afternoon that my new boss (of 6 whole weeks) has to cut me back to 2 days a week. Why in the he!! did she hire anotehr person if she couldn't afford one? And it's not like she's paying me great wage or anything. Sorry....didn't mean to vent. Good thing I kept my foot in the door at the hospital. I can pick up a few extra days there until I figure out what to do. To those of you nursing loved ones, I raise my glass to you. It's especially difficult to take care of men when they are out of sorts...LOL Tomorrow I am taking part in a local jewelry show and sale. Hopefully I can sell a lot of my dichroic and beaded jewelry and make some extra Xmas money. After that I am off to a friend's house for an overnight crafting party. I am "glassed and beaded out" so I am bringing some card-making supplies. Time to do some paper crafting for a while.... Happy weekend! The economy sucks, but life is still good. (clink!) Linda

Friday Night Dinner Plans?

I understand why the butcher in Houston never heard of it, I know I have never heard of it. Anyone know the story of why it's called city chicken? I would definitely love to try it sounds good. I can on occasion find pork cubed as stew meat, I use pork stew meat in my corn soup. That meat on a stick deep fried sounds like fair food! Love fair food, good thing it only happens once a year. I unfortunately have not been able to go to a fair in years.

Today is Friday, what's for your meal of the day?

Friday night often means homemade pizza night with the sprites, unless Robert and I have other plans, and that's what we had tonight. We'll fix anything they want but pizza usually wins. Older sprite makes the dough by herself now! She ran over as soon as she got home, put her apron on and got to work. So cute. She assembles everything she needs and lines the ingredients up according to when they are needed. Little sprite picks peppers, tomatoes, and basil and helps decide what else we want on the pizza. Anyway, we had a couple of grilled pizzas, a simple crunchy salad, and lemon sugar cookies for dessert.

Black Friday - what is your weakness?

I grew up in a home with lots of love, but very few fancy things. We didn't have money to spend on decor items, and I developed a love for fine and beautiful things. My mother did have some serving dishes/cut glass/milk glass, but none were very 'fine' or valuable, but still pretty...they are in my cabinet and I use them at the holidays. My mother-in-law, on the other hand, always had very beautiful and expensive items and my husband and I inherited it all...furniture, silver, crystal, china, artwork, piano, serving ware, etc. Our kids took what they wanted, we donated much, auctioned some, and kept the finest pieces. I always try to purchase quality items, but earlier in our marriage I didn't have the money to spend on all the things I desired. Now, we are financially well-positioned, and I could buy pretty much whatever I want...The problem is, I don't NEED anything! And I look at all of the nice things I have, and realize that my kids don't really want much of it. The entertaining they do is quite casual, and crystal and china are not to their tastes. We don't PLAN to relocate or downsize any time soon, as our home is one story and easily navigated, but I do think that I will need to purge some of my things in the next few years. So, while I love to look at lovely plates, serving pieces, textiles, beautiful dutch ovens, etc., and would love to have them for myself. in the Black Friday sales, what would I do with them? I don't cook every day, and usually it is just the two of us. Family comes for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and for pool get-togethers in the summer, but the things I have are sufficient. I guess we'll find a way to spend some $$ by going up to Carmel after the holidays!

Should be inside cleaning out the house..... but after being cooped up all winter, it is supposed to be in the mid 70s tomorrow and then chance of rain for next week. So I need to get out and clean out flower beds and sow some seeds for annuals (zinnias, marigolds and cosomos). The girls are outside now doing who knows what ( fenced in back yard) and I am so glad to be able to be outside. Of course the house will wait for fall won't it???

We are going to Anniston, AL tomorrow for DGD birthday. She will be 4 on Sunday. Then we are going camping and she is going with us. DH is excited to take her fishing. Should be loads of fun.

I will be without computer for most of the week - no wifi at campground. I hope I don't have withdrawals.

I already had my weekend fun! My two good buddies and I stayed at the Pittsburgh Mills Marriott last night and had fun eating out (dinner, breakfast, late lunch), shopping and going to a movie. We had a great time. We work together every day, but still like to spend time together! It's great to have friends.

We are headed to Baltimore's Inner Harbor for the weekend.

My daughter and SIL's 7 year old nephew, Erik, is competing in a ballroom dance contest. Erik and his dance partner are the youngest to ever compete.

They just finished taping a segment on the Oprah show and Inside Edition will be taping them this weekend. Since I am a fan of DWTS, this should be fun.

I've had 3 grands this afternoon and early evening. I cooked dinner for them and DS came and ate w/ us and took the oldest GS home. The youngest one is spending the night and is going w/ DH tomorrow to Dallas to the car show. I'll probably go to breakfast w/ the daughter next door and I may plant some things in my front flower bed. I'm thinking verbena and periwinkles for starters. We have 4 birthdays this month, so I'll be doing some shopping tomorrow. Sunday is DH's BD, so we'll go out to eat w/ children and grandchildren after church. Then, whatever he wants to do. I can't believe I'm married to such an old man!!

We've been having fun already. DD's, their two friends and I, went to sis in law's to give her a bday gift. MIL, Fil, BIL were all there. SIL is gathering stuff for a garage sale. She gave the girls all sorts of fancy shoes, some never worn. Fancy clothes and One of the friends was THRILLED to get a huge box of Taste of Home cooking magazines, cook books etc. Once we got back home we all made pancakes, eggs, bacon, strawberries. By the end of dinner every girl had a face full of whipped cream (from a bottle). We laughed so much at their antics. Later, they dressed up in the three inch high heels and cool outfits while I took pictures. We parted ways by 7 pm though.

We're going to bed early tonight. DD is on her fourth grade Reading Classics team. They are going to state tournament tomorrow after winning district a couple weeks ago. Positive thoughts would be much appreciated please. They are good but this is State, so they are ALL good! While we are gone to that nail biter,, DH will be going to the other side of the state to watch DS trap shoot. He's been doing this since sixth grade and he is now a junior. It's exciting but also alot of waiting around! Since DS has been at a FBLA leadership conference the last couple of days (he's there until they go to the trap meet) I'm thinking he's gonna be tired while shooting. At least he can take off the tie, he'll love that! It finally going to be a warm day too. yippee!

Sunday I hope to work outside, cleaning up the winter leaves and getting ready to plant. Might have a bon fire later that night. Better get some hot dogs. Everyone's invited.
