That homemade pizza sounds good. I had salmon, a variety of rices in a mixture, and green beans.

Fantastic lunch!

Jubilee Joe's for a cup of sausage and chicken gumbo, fried oysters, to perfection, and their special cole slaw which I love.

Top if all off, couple sitting next to me, were friends I hadn't seen in 15 years. We used to be very close, as well as our children, but time passes, things change.

So we chatted and ate and had a wonderful visit.

I've been absentia for the most part this week. We're busy moving......our apt bldg got sold (a triplex with 3 apts) and the new owners wanted ours and the one below. We lucked out in getting an apt just down the block, identical to what we had. So we've been "dollying" boxes down the sidewalk. A close friend with a pickup is helping us finish up tomorrow.

On top of that, hubby had prostate surgery yesterday, with no heavy lifting for 4 weeks, so I'll be doing the heavy lifting with our friend tomorrow.

Tonite was whole wheat pasta with tomatoes, onions garlic, feta, fresh basil and some baby spinach.

Thinking of making an apple crisp if I can find my baking dish. If not, it will be applesauce.

Welcome back Jasdip. Moving is not so much fun. I'm trying to pretend we're moving and have been cleaning out "stuff". I'm such a pack rat. Trying to do some purging and I am, but not nearly what I should be doing. Enjoy the new digs.

We just had the remainder of the spaghetti tonight. Glad I didn't have to cook tonight.

Jas, last week I put apple slices in a pie plate, little brown sugar, cinnamon, few small blobs of butter and a squeeze of lemon juice..foil to cover..baked until soft..
yumm...all the goodness of pie or crisp..without the work or extra calories..

Nice sounding Lunch Glenda..both the company and food.

Shirley, that sounds like a healthy dinner..

I'm going to get the pizza dough made..and let it proof while I bike ride..usually only give it about 15 min after I mix it up..today it'll get double that..

Today is DH's birthday, so I made 2 of his favorites. City chicken and apple pie. Had the city chicken, a side of broccoli and for the carbohydrate of the meal, warm apple pie ala mode.

Going out to dinner tonight. Already looked up the menu online and decided on the salmon. Love that we have the ability to do that. I'm on Weight Watchers so planning ahead makes life easy :)

Welcome back jasdip, well wishes for hubby and fast healing. Be careful not to over do it.

Tonight is blackened chicken in Alfredo sauce with pasta. I will have garlic bread with it.

Somehow much of family and many friends are out of town this weekend, leaving one SILs husband home fending for himself. I was thinking I should have him here to eat tonight and DH asked if it would work to invite him out for Mexican food. That sounded better to me, so I think t's Mexican, downtown. For three :)

We went to Chili's for a late lunch/early dinner. Chips and salsa and cold beer. I had loaded baked potato soup and the Grilled Chicken on Pretzel roll with avocado, tomato, field greens ( which I picked the wilted things off). Did not eat the fries that came with. Way too much food!

What is City Chicken?

Mexican...mmmmm...might have to do that soon...

We had tuna melts (sandwiches)....yummm.

What? City Chicken is pork? Who knew, I must be from the wrong coast. But when I look up recipes for it I find pork.

City Chicken is pork pieces cubed on a stick. We breaded it with egg and flour. Fried it in canola oil. We used to buy it at Krogers in Cincinnati, when we moved to Houston and I looked for it the butcher said never heard of it. My family loved it.
We had grilled cheese sandwiches with tomatoes and vegetable soup. Easy dinner. Fresh fruit cocktail for dessert.

We used to have City Chicken! My Mom would buy it and fry it. It was on a stick, but shaped like a chicken leg, not cubed. Am sure it was pork though, rolled in a light cornmeal. Anyone else remember it this way? It was so good!

City chicken as I have always known it is cubes of pork and veal alternated on a 6 inch wooden stick. I dip mine in egg, then coat with flour and brown well in a small amount of oil then cook to tenderness by braising for 45 to 60 minutes.

I just had a senior moment. City chicken was made up of pork pieces and veal pieces put on a stick alternating the pieces. My family loved it. Not really chicken.

Wow...that is crazy..I have never heard of it...
Must not have ever made it to the West Coast..

Pork and veal...on a stick..called Chicken...

Craziness...lol

I understand why the butcher in Houston never heard of it, I know I have never heard of it. Anyone know the story of why it's called city chicken?
I would definitely love to try it sounds good. I can on occasion find pork cubed as stew meat, I use pork stew meat in my corn soup.

That meat on a stick deep fried sounds like fair food! Love fair food, good thing it only happens once a year. I unfortunately have not been able to go to a fair in years.
