Work Place Wellness Program Ideas Needed

I was just made the Wellness Coordinator for my office. They have picked the biggest couch potato you have ever seen!

I have some ideas but not quite sure where to start so I thought I would turn here for help.

A couple of the ideas I have are to have each division compete in a walking challenge. Each division has 25-30 people in it so it really wouldn't take them long, but to pick a fun place figure out the miles and have them log in their miles and the first division to reach the destination win a prize.

Maybe we could all meet at a designated place and ride our bikes to work.

I was thinking it would be fun to have some kind of a Survivor challenge but not quite sure what we could do. Maybe have some kind of an immunity idol. Just some ideas

Any suggestions you have would be great.

I think Cadance would be fun! Have a contest between teams to make their own chant, just jog around the parking lot.

Or, get every one to learn the dance to "Superman".

A good office Immunty Idol would be a necklace made out of "old computer parts and keyboard letters".

Reward could be a Catered "Healthy" meal.

I had to direct sow last year after my zinnia seedlings failed and the daffs flopped. So I never did get it too look like what I had in mind. But this year is different. Jean, I know zinnias need lots of sun and the get lots of sun there all afternoon from about noon on. Just shady earlier in the morning.

How about getting in a speaker about the affordable health care act? Not someone from an insurance company or political party, but someone from a community center or senior center (not that you're technically seniors) who is a designated "navigator" for the ACA. Everybody talks about the plans and implementation without knowing anything about it. Knowledge is always good! I would also have an art teacher come in and provide each woman with paints, canvas and brush and a subject --- a still life--- and give a rudimentary lesson. You never know who this might spark an interest in, and even for non artistic types it can be illuminating to look at an object and see something one has never seen before--- like negative space, perhaps. Finally, I would welcome a program on Christmas or winter holiday traditions, involving the members themselves. Perhaps they have an interesting religious, cultural or ethnic tradition--- or maybe a family tradition they started themselves. They could bring either a costume or group of ornaments, or music, or a written recipe or something that epitomizes their own family Christmas or Hannukah. People are going to be pulling that stuff out soon anyway :-)

Need help with 3 32SA rotors in series, not working too well.

I have 3 Rainbird 32SA sprinkler heads with 0.75 GPM nozzles in place. They are connected via 1/2 inch 0.7 OD polypro. Total distance end to end is short - about 25'. Water system produces 85 PSI and 5 GPM. When I hook them up in series and turn the water on, I see the first sprinkler closest to the water source produces a good spray distance. The second sprinkler down the line is spraying/misting, then the third is just dribbling. What am I doing wrong here? Did I install the 0.75 GPM nozzles incorrectly?

I have the same situation in a small house and I put my very large desk under the window. It works very well for me. Switch the seating tv area to the front of the room. The sofa can stay as is with a lot of large down filled throw pillows or the sofa that you posted. Delineate the space with a rug as large as possible. Keep the cabinets at the tv and around the seating low (to the back height of the sofa maximum). At the desk area flank the desk on either side with tall billy bookcases with top extensions - as tall as possible. Also add doors to hide the storage items. If you feel you need a physical separation, install sheer white curtains very full, from the ceiling to the floor. It will add privacy and filter in light. This plan will eliminate people from passing your workspace and containing the living space. Here's a plan and some inspiration pics. The line behind the lounge chair is the sheer curtain ceiling to floor. It can be any divider, but not that open shelf you have. The trick with open dual purpose rooms is to keep it simple and hide the clutter while making the spaces functional. You can use the open shelving you have on the right of the chaise (next to the door). TV Wall - Hang a cabinet off the wall to visually create an open space. This pic shows seating at front and work area at window. (I love the light fixture!) Full white sheer curtain panels are one of my favorite design tricks.

Look up your local hospital's website. There are many speakers who will come to your place free of charge. We've had nutritionists, cardio nurses speaking on the importance of exercise (even how to exercise while working at a desk!), many other issues.

When I was taking some training last year, the place had a "Walk across Texas" challenge. Each team would walk where they wanted, but kept track of the miles. On check in day, they would post their miles and "travel" across the state. One of the teams was really into it, so when they "walked" from Dallas to Ft Worth (for example) they got a little "tourist guide" the captain made them. Every so many miles they had their break time snack provided (something healthy) At the end of the "walk" that team at least, was going to go out for a special meal. Other teams were not as creative or into it, so just logged their miles.

If your company would allow it, a massage therapist to come in and give chair massages, or others with the types of infor that could benifit folks working in your environment.

Most public health agencies offer work site wellness programs. I retired from our local public health agency and we did a lot of programs for worksites, factories, banks, etc.
