I think it looks really nice, I would buy this for my grandson in a heartbeat, I guess I'm the odd man out, lol.....

I like it, but I have teens. Not what I was looking for when they were younger. Or now, actually -- they have queen beds and I long ago decided bunk beds weren't worth the hassle.

I think his ankle is cuffed to the stool. Poor thing, he doesn't know he can just pick up the stool and carry it with him and escape.

How sad. I just learned that one of the RH stores in our area is closed; you wonder just how much red ink they will be able to absorb! Their "new look" just baffles me; I honestly don't hate all of it, but it's so specialized. Someone forgot to tell them that most of us don't live in massive loft spaces or historic buildings with 12 ft. ceilings, brick walls, and reclaimed wood floors. That's where so much of this stuff belongs.

Mitch, I absolutely love they way they look but I've watched my kids, 8, 5, 3 play on the bunks in 1 room and for sure I'd be headed to the hospital w/in the day to have someones cracked head stitched up.

IKEA bunk beds painted in a metallic silver would have to be my compromise.

but I do like how it looks.

I think if they marketed it for teens it would make more sense; I can see a teen boy's room with something like that (I also have teens.) But when I see baby and child, I picture something soft and sweet.

graywings I didn't see the pillow at first and thought with Oliver you were making a Dickensian reference. It's kind of appropriate!

With the Table of Elements framed up above his bed, my guess is that Oliver will be on Jeopardy in a few years.

I can see some young boys liking that look, though. Babies and toddlers, no.

I liked it too. If you go to a store that has this stuff, it's not quite as razor-edged as it might seem in the photos.

I am curious - those who do not like this look, do any of you have a young boy? My son is 8 and he likes the RH look. (we get the catalogs at the house and the kids have independently voiced they like the rooms). A lot of what RH has in their look is reminiscent of what my brother and I had as children, real vintage stuff we found at our grandparents houses (we didnt have tons of kids toys and often played with cast-off adult things) items left from the world wars, old things. Maps, coins, gas masks, uniforms, arrowheads, antlers, shell casings, those old fans with no safety
cover on them, etc. I dont really know how to describe it but RH has
really captured a lot of that
feel, and it appeals to at least some people. My son is very much still a
little boy but that bright cutesy look (ie Cars or bob the builder sheet sets
etc) has never appealed to him.
While I have bought some things from RH I do admit many of their items are pricey, and I buy similar vibe items from antique stores for less $$.

Except for the sharp edges (bunk beds are dangerous enough!), I like the whole look. The gray blue bedding softens the metal, but the overall style is very masculine.

I have an 8 year old boy and he has yet to express an opinion about the looks of any of his furnishings or anyone else's. Although he is happy to look through catalogs with me and discuss things, he has never asked for anything in his room to be different.
re: the RH bunks--they do look pointy and prison-ish, they wouldn't be my choice, but as with most RH stuff, it's not the actual items I don't like so much as the pointedly colorless totality of how their furnishings are presented.

The 8 year old boy in my life is drawn to floors strewn with Legos and action figures. The 6 year old boy, however, wants to decorate a wall with a fancy tie rack. For his one tie.

I forgot to add that, yes, if that were my son's room, the floor would also be decorated with Legos! :-). hey, maybe that is why I love the plain monochrome look, because of all the other stuff that gets dragged in and left out.

I was so infuriated when this picture arrived in a RH email that I posted right back to them. The text on the ad states that the bed is steel.

So I asked them if they would put their own child six feet off the floor with such sharp corners. Asked them if a color psychologist had suggested putting a kid in a room with drab gray and drab blue. (Not that I'm on the side of loud primary colors - I am not.) Asked them if they were preparing their sons for lives as prison guards or submariners. So far RH has not responded, lol.

i like the bed set up alot actually... i would have considered that for our boys...

BUT, the elements posters and their atomic weights... that's what has me shaking my head and saying 'poor boy'...

jenny: I do have a young boy (well OK he's 13 now and 6' tall!) and I can see marketing this kind of bed for kids / youth / teens - although I still think the corners look sharp.

What struck me was the email subject with the juxtaposition of "baby" and "industrial". I imagined some kind of steam-punk nursery - let's hope RH doesn't try that next!

I don't mind the bed itself but would prefer more colorful linens and walls. The staging is, as always, unrealistic to put it mildly, but a few toys, games and stuffed animals will quickly humanize the look.
It's not something I relate to on any level, too industrial for me but if I had a loft in a grimy city somewhere in a futuristic apocalypse, perhaps it would be the ideal thing.

AuntJen - my boys must the the boys in your life LOL! 5yo is obsessed w/ tie's and I just heard the 'Legos On The Floor' scream of pain from DH last night when he was w/ the 8yo.

The only real decorating request from the 8yo (besides the RH Aviator line) has been that I paint dueling dragons for him on his ceiling and walls in his bedroom when we move.

I'd love to find a spot to do a smaller version of this for the 8yo but only if I could weed the legos out to just red, white and blue to match their room!:

My grandson had a great wood structure 15 years ago. It had drawers, a great desk area and didn't resemble the jail that this thing looks like. His took a beating from two kids but no one got hurt. The one showed is an accident waiting to happen. Who likes this stuff anyway?
