Legally blind novice could use some serious help!

Hello all,

We finally signed our contract with our PB and are very excited. We need to decide on which Pebble Sheen we want.

Cool Blue/ Prism Blue / Blue Granite

Few things to consider:

We have three children and don't want too dark of a bottom.

I am kind of color blind and bright glares bother my eyes, but we will have lots of shade starting around 3:30.

We will have the Color Logic LED lights too.

We Don't want green or Grey colors either.

We live next to conservation area with lots of trees next to, not ontop and we will have a screen enclosure.

Pros/Cons

1) Cool Blue- light and easy to see bottom and lights would flourish at night with LED's/Lots of glare, looks like every other marcite color and may reflect a greenish color with lots of nearby trees?

2) Prism Blue- Pictures seem beautiful with no greens, darker may keep warmer in cooler months?/ Not sure if it has too much grey in it and may be too dark

3)Blue Granite -Gorgeous as well as it seems to change colors/ May have hint of green as it has some yellowish/gold specs which could cause a greenish look?

Any and all advice and pics would be so very helpful

P.S. Cartridge or DE filter? I want a large sq ft filter with simplicity in mind. I'm leaning to the C 1750 or 4025 Quad Cartridge filter but some tell me DE is the best and not to hard to maintain. I have two dogs that MAY jump in too and lots of pollen.

Seems like you are deciding between Prism blue or blue granite. We resurfaced our pool last year with Tahoe blue pt. The reason I responded is because Tahoe blue pt is the equivalent blue granite ps. Prism blue ps is the equivalent to tropical breeze pt. I looked at all 4 colors, but we preferred the pebble tec over the pebble sheen. We went back and forth between Tahoe and Tropical breeze. In the end Tahoe blue won because I liked the color of the stones you see on the stairs and bench. Either way they are both beautiful colors and you wont be disappointed in either blue granite or Prism blue. Blue granite is a shade lighter than prism blue. Neither one is green. The green colored pools (that I have seen) were the beige color cement like sandy beach. I love sandy beach for beach entry areas of a pool. I think blue granite may have more of a teal blue color, but not an algea green color. The best way to tell what you and your family like is to ask your pebble tec rep for a chance to visit a clients pool in both finishes. I have welcomed several people to view our pool. It really helps people see the color in person.

We have a white light, hardly use it and thats why we didnt go with the color logic. So I cant help you there.

We have a cartridge and it works well for us, we dont know any better or worse. We clean the filter with the garden hose about every 2 weeks, and it is usually replaced once a year.

We found our pool is 5 degrees warmer in the summer with the darker finish vs a white marcacite finish. Does it extend our swimming season.....NO, maybe one day. Once the nights get cold the temp drops too much. We do not use a solar cover, that might help but I dont want to look at it. However, a few friends with a solor heating system extend their season significantly here in Florida.

We are still thinking about Cool Blue which is a very white color with tiny blue pebbles. We feel it is a safer color to see things/kids in the bottom as well as will show off the color light show in a stunning/realistic way.

I plan on visiting a few more pools as I've seen Tahoe and Ocean Blue which are beautiful but a bit too dark for us.

We will have Heliocal solar panels with a southern roof exposure and approximately 100% sq ft of coverage so hopefully here in Florida we can have a long swim season?

I'd love to see some dusk photos as well as night photos with color lights of Cool Blue, Prism Blue and Blue Granite as they are still in the running.

The more composted-type materials you can get into your soil, the better. Also, I agree that a couple hours of sun might not be enough for those sun loving plants. You might be able to grow some greens in some of the shadier areas, but those fruiting veggies need some sun to do well. You might want to put a couple of them in containers where they can get full sun. You can do any of those in pots, but the tomatoes are going to need at least a 5 gal bucket (preferably more). When I lived in AZ, my peppers did well in 5 gal. buckets (they dried out fast though). I have never tried a topsy turvy. Maybe you can do an experiment...one in the ground in your sunniest spot, one in a tub or bucket and one in the topsy turvy. See which one works best for you. Kitchendetective, I read your comment wrong. I thought you said NOT to put something like the Poppy Nine Patch in the dining room but you actually said that it might work to put that there. Good point about not putting all browns in the dining room but aqua???? Wish I could wrap my brain around that one. Maybe I am just too predictable. LOL I'm trying to visualize how that wouldn't clash with the other colors but then again, it might work. Again, great you guys are thinking out side the box when I live inside it. LOL Thanks Chris. The wood does seem darker when I got it here which I'm glad for. A flat screen tv? I haven't priced those and not sure I can afford one with having to pay for new furniture but will look into that. They might be more affordable than I think. That would look better I guess on that cabinet than the regular tv that's on it now. Jamies...I originally had the artwork flipped like you suggest with the larger trees being on the outside but it seemed to look odd and not pull the look together as much as it does this way. It just didn't look right to me. I am about to leave and take pics of the LR and DR with me back to the furniture store where I am meeting the design coordinator there. She told me she could help me maybe pick out some things for those walls and I'm printing out everyone's suggestions to take with me. Gonna tell her if she can't make that darn sisal rug work somehow then I'm bringing it back. It's growing on me.....I think. Not sure yet. Thank you guys so much for your input. Will let you know if anything is decided. You guys are so valuable with your knowledge.

We are in Western New York state, Buffalo/Niagara Falls area. To answer the others questions: It is 40 inches from ground to the floor of the porch. I'll be painting the base of the porch a sparkling white. I'm going to guess that there is about 8 to 10 feet from the edge of the wide front stairway, which is on the left side of the porch, to the far right corner of the porch, (sorry, I haven't measured it yet). The front wall of the house, downstairs, is white and the floor is new Timber Tech in light gray. There's a white bead board ceiling. We have a large metal glider with two metal chairs which I am considering painting a butter yellow which would work with the yellow day lilies. I would love to come up with plantings in front of the porch that would just take your breath away. Hopefully plants that would flower all summer. I've even thought of bringing in more top soil to bank that area in front of the porch base. There is a beautiful Clemantis climbing at the far right end of the porch. We're going to put in new posts and railings on both the first floor porch and the second floor porch. I'll be putting flower boxes on those railings. A major reason for going with the yellow is because the front wall of the second floor was painted a medium green that is almost a gold. Getting into painting the entire house this summer is not on our to do list so I have to work with what is there. I hope this is not too much information, but I thought the full picture would help to to find the right answer as to what to plant in front of the porch. Please ask any questions you need to! Thank you so much, junco! Yes, those are hostas - now that I googled the name. :-) I wish I knew that much. They too look a bit scorched so perhaps they are all showing the effects of a hot summer when nobody bothered to water them. Hopefully they will come back OK next spring. It is really helpful to know that it is fine to wait and see what happens next Spring. If the plants come back fine in the Spring, do you have any tips for maximizing bloom? I don't think they bloomed at all last year either. Unfortunately, I don't have an irrigation system in that area but i do have a hose on the deck so I will just have to pay attention to the weather and water as needed, which should be a major improvement from "never". Trouble is if we are gone again to stay with family overseas, I will have to entrust someone with watering the garden at least once in a while. Will also do the weed pulling by hand - myself. I can certainly take 2 hours. That small fern that shows up in the picture...I am pretty sure it was not designed to be there. :-) I love big hydrangea bushes and have always wondered how some get so big, These two plants we have never grew beyond their initial size - which is not very large. We have blue granite PS and love it. It is a beautiful color that changes depending on the time of day, so think about that if you go to see any pools. I have a 10ft deep end and can easily see the drains in the dark with a full moon. Today the clear sticker came off our cleaner and I could see it in the deep end with the pool in full shade.

We have prism blue sheen - and I think of the water is as aqua to teal - not green - but not that bright windex blue. The colored lights are gorgeous in the water (except for some reason I don't like the green part of the spectrum - but that may be my personal preference ;-). No problem seeing anything on the bottom - ever.
