a desk chair without arms. It not only rolls, it swivils.

I sit on a pillow on an old desk chair with arms. It rolls and swivels. The arms do not help, but they do not get in my way either. Even though I'm tall, I find that I'm more comfortable if I sit on a pillow to give me a few extra inches. My legs are long enough that I don't need to adjust the height of the pedal.

Same as toolgranny. An office chair with no arms that rolls and swivels - and adjusts up and down. Love it.

Actually, I'd probably like it if it could adjust up a little bit more due to the height of my table, but it does allow DD(9) to adjust it down so she can reach the pedal.

My only real problem with this chair is that my little ones like to spin in circles when I'd like to sit and sew! LOL

I actually sit on what would be called a bar stool. It sits taller than a chair, has a very soft seat, small and tall enough that my feet are still on the floor. The added height is great for my back and I see much better
at the machine, not crunching over with my shoulders. When I decided to try this idea, I sat on several stools to be sure that the comfort that I wanted was there before I bought it. Have used it for 3 or so years now, and when I sit in a lower chair, I notice quite a difference.

Yes, a desk chair, no arms, adjustable height and a large cushion seat for my large cushion seat!

I've even heard/know someone who brings their own chair to retreat! Smart Gal, I'd say!

I sew at the dining room table so just use a wooden chair. It is a pain not having wheels but you do what you have to do! I do have an office chair but it has arms and if I adjust it to the proper height, the arms of the chair and the skirt of the table fight!

Maybe one day my kids will be gone and I will have a sewing room.

I have a draftsmen chair that rolls and swivels. It adjusts a bit higher then the ordinary desk chair. Wish there were a way to clean the wheels easier. Jayne

It looks like a desk chair that adjusts, swivels and armless is the answer! I'll probably have the same problem withe my kids playing with the swivels. They do that in the bar stools, so I'm sure this will be irresistible!

I'm with the majority here - I have a desk chair, no arms, rolls & swivels. The Dr told me however to not get into the habit of rolling to the cutting table, sewing machine...Said it is very hard on the back (& I agree). Plus, all the ergonomics specialists will tell you to get up & move around often. For those of us w/RA it's important so we don't stiffen up so much with the repetition of lots of sewing.

I also have the same type chair where I sew w/friends & former employees. We rented a space for the longarm big enough for the cutting table we had in the store & 6 additional sewing tables for our sewing days. Three machines stay there all the time, & 2 women generally leave one of theirs there - (indefinitely! :) It's a great place, nice & big, open, lots of high windows & light. I haven't gotten to sew much there lately since I hav kids 4 days out of 5.

Love my armless rolling desk chair. Except for the threads getting stuck in the wheels. I do use the little 'WASTE BAG" that I made, but keep missing!
Got it for under $20.00 a few years ago at WALMART...Love it!

Same here...office chair, no arms swivels and rolls. Just love it....working on a quick and easy way to make a cover for it. Tired of that ugly black but is it a wonderful sewing chair.

I'm headed out of town this weekend, so I won't get much shopping done until next week. No quilting for matter either, darn it! But it looks like I know what to look for. Since I have 2 machines now, I'd like to only have one chair to put between the two. I also get tired of scooting the chair I have now in and out to get up and down. I'm sure it's not good for the hardwood floors (even with pads on the legs). I'll let you guys know what I find.

My DH bought me a Koala sewing chair for my birthday last October. I had been using inexpensive office chairs for years. My hip was bothering me so much that DH wanted me to get a better chair. I love it. It seems to help with the hip pain also. It has much thicker cushions that the previous chairs.

That chair sits at my machine. I think I've posted a pic of it on this forum before. I wove the new seat for it after my butt fell through the old cane seat. LOL. Out of strips from my quilting stash.
